Jakes is right on 395 on the west side of the highway.

After a 5 hour drive it's always a pleasure to have a beer or two at this fine establishment. Friendly bartenders and a good selection of beer and a full bar....and dog friendly.

two jars of iced coffee on a table

Jake's Saloon provides the lonely residents of a roadside town with a deserted landscape a place to fulfill their boring lives. The desperation of being trapped in a town in which you cannot step outside without being suffocated by L.A. touristas driving expensive imports on their way to Mammoth drives the locals to drink. Lone Pine offers one place that does the job well....Jake's Saloon. Everything about Jake's takes on a sense of starved slowness, like crawling through mud, though I find it disturbingly attractive; the local bar flys, the bad music on the juke box, the poorly mixed drinks, and the local housewives looking for a distraction from the RV park. Jake's offers 2 pooltables, shuffle board and ping pong. DWP laborers pepper the bar and crowd the pooltables looking for their next victims. These guys run this town and Jake's knows this and is willing to deal with the trials and tribulations of their farkakta behavior. If you find yourself driving to Mammoth and need to empty your bladder and wet the whistle, stop in, piss in the trough and have a beer. If you are looking for a nite out in Lone Pine, proceed with caution. My group was approached by a local haus frau asking for backup in case she got in a fight. She stated she is hated for her beauty and that jealousy drives the other ladies to violence. Just another nite at Jake's.

Saloon style door.

Very comfortable local joint with a diverse crowd. A bit disappointly safe, maybe a more interesting crowd shows up later.

Travelling through Lone Pine on my Harley and saw this saloon calling my name. I bellied up to the bar and the bartender greeted my promptly and with a smile. I noticed that the ambiance is "old west" themed. There were only a few patrons bellied up and they were friendly while striking up a conversation. This is a dive bar at its finest. Worth stopping for a beer when travelling through.

Get spot, terrific service. Will be stopping by this place every time of Highway 395, good location, cold drinks, and plenty of them.

What I got instead was a dealer who treated my losses like a personal comedy special. Every hand I lost was met with smirks, chuckles, and full-on laughter -- not subtle, not professional, but the kind of laugh you give when you want someone to feel stupid. Nothing says "hospitality" like being mocked while losing money. It gets worse. This same dealer actively pressured me to bet more, repeatedly pushing me to raise my wager like he was my financial advisor with a personal vendetta. "Come on, one more hand," "Double it," "You'll win it back" -- constant, uncomfortable, predatory commentary. I didn't come to be hustled by the person running the table. And then the cherry on top: He announced it was the "last shoe" -- only for me to later find out there were THIRTY MINUTES left before the table actually closed. Thirty. Minutes. The only explanation? He wanted to go home early and didn't care who he misled to do it. Lying to players to speed up your shift is next-level unprofessional. But wait -- there's more. * Cards were slapped down aggressively like the dealer was mad at me for losing * Zero table etiquette -- rules changed depending on his mood * Eye-rolling when I asked basic questions * A vibe so hostile it felt like I was inconveniencing the staff by existing * Management nowhere to be found, as if this behavior is completely normal here Casinos are supposed to be fun, exciting, and at the very least neutral. This felt like psychological warfare with chips involved. I've played blackjack in plenty of casinos. I've lost money before -- that's part of the game. What I've never experienced is being laughed at, pressured, lied to, and rushed out by a dealer who clearly had zero respect for players or the integrity of the table. Do yourself a favor: take your money, your time, and your dignity literally anywhere else. Wahaana Casino doesn't deserve any of the three.

They actually made bean burger patties for us even though they weren't on the menu, which was incredibly thoughtful and appreciated. Our waitress, Brooke, was amazing throughout the entire experience, so friendly, attentive, helpful, and genuinely accommodating. She made us feel comfortable and taken care of from start to finish. It's always meaningful when a restaurant is willing to work with dietary preferences instead of making you feel like an inconvenience. The kindness and effort from the staff did not go unnoticed.
