I wanted to set up an appointment through an EAP program with Dr. Brooks, but Dr. Brooks mistakenly…read morethought I was "double-insured" when I mentioned that my regular health insurance is BCBS and refused to treat me as a result of that. He claimed that he has issues between clients double-insured with Aetna and Cigna in the past, and told me that BCBS is Aetna (which is not true, they are completely separate companies). I understand that insurance is confusing, but an EAP program is completely different from private insurance and Dr. Brooks isn't even listed as in-network for BCBS so there would have been no conflict. Though I was unable to have a session with him, I think it is a huge red flag that: 1. Dr. Brooks refused to listen to or believe a client trying to explain their own insurance plan. 2. Acted in this way while not understanding even which insurances were within his network.

Dr. Brooks is great. I was referred to him by my UCSB through my insurance. He is very, very…read moreattentive and observant, intuitive, and clearly really smart. I went for an ADHD assesment, which he took a great deal of time to do, because he did a ton of interesting tests. And came out of it with a better knowledge of my psychological state, aswell as information about my body language and how I express myself that after 23 years of life I and Noone I associate with have noticed. I plan to see him again for psychotherapy when I am on a break from school and have more time. Would greatly recommend him to anyone else. At the very worst I could say he is a bit short, and that if you see him don't have hurt feelings if he cuts you off if you are repetitive. But, we were working on a short time line and I tend to ramble, which he kept under control. Not really a complaint, but something to be aware of, it may have been specific with me though due to how I behave. All around he was great, his office was great, he got back to me very promptly and worked very hard to find times around both of our busy schedules to meet. I did not end up being assessed with ADHD but a similar diagnosis. Again, I would very highly recommend him, he's awesome.
