As a result, each appointment starts with the student coming in and asking about your symptoms. She may perform small exams as she fees fit, then go confer with your doctor. Then, they both come in and offer prescriptions or whatever is necessary. I like this because I get a thorough inspection and the student usually narrates what she is doing (feeling the lymph nodes, etc.). I happened to go twice a month apart, and the student was different. So, this setup is not for people who want to see one doctor quickly and get out. Apparently, they are funded by the government by how many patients are registered there, as opposed to the usual offices being reimbursed per patient visit. This is why they ask patients to always come to them, and not go to walk-in clinics. I have been able to book an appointment with my doctor the day I call. If he is not available, they offer an appointment with another one of the doctors. The official address lists it as on Oak St, but it is deep inside the hospital complex, so it's easier to get to from the parking lot entrance on Heather at 29th Ave. Follow the sidewalk on the north side. It's the building after the first crosswalk. Go up the ramp on the corner.

Sometimes the exams take a bit longer because of the teaching setting, but as a plus I can always get in within a day or two to see a doctor, even if not my own another is on call on Saturdays. They are now located on Broadway at Willow and there is parking available on the roof.

My medical history has become very complicated and I was worried that no doctor would want to take on my case. From the moment I entered their practice I felt an incredible calm wash over me. Calming music fills the waiting area. The front desk staff are absolutely lovely and always pleasant. There is no room full of people waiting to be seen because the appts. are scheduled to ten minutes each. This is a win/win for both patients being seen on time and for the doctors not stressed out because numerous patients are waiting! As for Dr. Melissa Ng she was so welcoming. Upon meeting her, I felt a huge sigh of relief that I was finally in competent hands. She immediately questioned whether I had my pneumonia and shingles vaccinations and sent off a prescription to my local pharmacy. Dr. Ng followed through on test requests that were supposed to have been ordered and had not been. She is sharp as a tack yet totally empathetic and non-judgemental. With being such a great doctor, everyone is trying to get a piece of her time. her usual online booking availability is a week away, by then most normal colds and flus would've been gone. You can try calling, but their calling system isn't hooked up the right way and it just takes you do a voice messaging system. I haven't tried emailing yet, but it might work! You honestly just have to keep trying? Once you've made an appointment, Dr. Cindy Lee is really great at being on schedule and you won't even wait long! Quickly decided to go to the washroom and when I came out there were 2 people ahead of me, so figured I better wait in line before the line got even longer. When it finally opened the office staff pulled the files of existing clients so a bit choked that that pushed me down to #5 on the list. Surprisingly though people went in and came out pretty quickly so having 4 people ahead of me I only waited 15 min. Good/bad depends how you look at it. Good that I didn't have to wait too long, but bad that potentially it was all quick because the doctor didn't spend much time on the patients. I commented how quick it was and the doctor said it was mostly prescriptions like myself. I told him my problem and he prescribed a cream and I was out in less than 5 min! The cream worked well and I cleared the infection within a few days. The doctor was friendly and professional, so all is good.

On one occasion, my father stubbed his toe and gave himself a nasty gash. He's diabetic, so this is something not to be taken lightly. When he saw the gash, he was visibly repulsed by it, so much so he couldn't even bring himself to touch my father's foot. He made me manipulate the foot so he could "examine" it at a distance. Couldn't even be bothered to put on latex gloves to have a look. Look, I get it. Callused, working-class feet are not the prettiest sight to look at. But my Father's feet were clean, and he was wearing fresh socks. I could look past the initial repulsion, but not the unwillingness to do his job like a professional and examine his feet proper. This brings me to myself. I went in to see Dr Ted about unusually low energy levels, and I had this weird tickle in the back of my throat. I'm not someone who likes to go to the doctor a lot. For better or worse, I have a suck-it-up buttercup personality. He asked about recent changes in my life and determined that it was just stress and nothing to worry about. He was on his way to scooting me out the door when I followed up by asking about the weird tickle in my throat. He acted like he was going to take a look, but really, all he did was shine a flashlight into my mouth for half a second and say you're fine. Flash-forward six months to a year later. The issues with energy levels are getting worse, especially when exercising. Turns out I have a hyperthyroid. It causes exercise intolerance, which is where the low energy comes from. One of the symptoms is a swollen thyroid gland. Guess where the thyroid gland is? Right around my throat. Though not immediately dangerous, my resting heart rate was 110 beats per minute. If exerted myself and pushed that too high, it could have led me to have a heart attack. And because of that lag in getting diagnosed, I had to be miserable for over a month while I got tested and diagnosed by a different doctor. For the most part, all I could do over that month was sit and think about how crappy I was feeling. Before this, I always thought I was a fighter and would fight to the bitter end no matter what I was faced with. But no, I got a small taste of what true suffering was, and now I understand my true limits are and why some would choose not to go on. Over the course of that month, I lost over twenty pounds of muscle. And it took me years to get back my strength and feel even close to normal.
