I've been coming here for a couple of years now. The drive is almost 45 mins from my home but sooo worth it! The staff here is amazing. They are professional, friendly, patient and don't make you feel judged. They make you feel so comfortable. Dr. Skinner is a pretty cool dentist so the fact that his staff also reflects that, is awesome. Brought my son in for a cleaning his last dental experience (not here) was horrible so it took some time before he was willing to try again. Well he said "mommy, that was not bad at all. Why 5 stars? Because I think I've found my new dentist. --- --- --- I've spent time living in various parts of the Bay Area, which means that things like my dentist, our vet, my barber weren't necessarily located super close to where I *currently* live. Every 6 months, I'd head down to South Tampa to see the same dentist I'd been to for years and every time I'd make that trek down Dale Mabry, I'd swear that I'd find a new dentist in the Carrollwood area. But laziness would creep in and I'd just stick it out, only for the cycle to repeat itself. But finally, I switched to a dentist near me and I'm so glad I did. I found Dr. Skinner by cross-examining a list of providers with my insurance and Yelp reviews. These fine folks took my insurance and had a great rating... but most importantly, were only located like 2 miles from my house. Win, win win! Most people don't like going to the dentist, but I enjoy the feeling of getting my mouth refreshed. My cleaning was about what you'd expect in that department. For the last year at my old dentist, I'd complain about pain on a certain tooth and they just kept telling me that there was absolutely no evidence that something needed to be fixed there. I thought that was kind of weird, because it definitely hurt, but they insisted it was fine. Dr. Skinner immediately identified that an old filling was loose and that he could definitely fix that. After my 2nd visit, I can finally chew on the left side of my mouth again! My favorite part of this office are the giant windows that look into the garden outside. It's a nice change from the typical, sterile environment you find at the dentist. As long as I live in the area, I'll be a patient here for the foreseeable future! read more

Dr. Skinner and staff are top notch. I moved from Cleveland, OH in 2004 and my biggest concern was finding a new dentist that I trusted. He is considerate and explains any issues thoroughly. My husband and I both use him and when my 82 year old mother came to live with us, she went to Dr. Skinner. He was kind and patient with her at all times. He has a a very clean and nice office and every dental room has a view of garden. They also play the best music! Also, hygienist Liz is amazing and very thorough! She made me very comfortable and was very professional and kind. Though Sheila and Stephanie are also great! No matter what you make appointment for, you will be well taken care of from check-in to check-out! read more

Amazing. Ask for the dental hygienist, Sheila; she is definitely who you want for a teeth cleaning. I just got a teeth cleaning and Sheila explained thoroughly how to properly floss by using a model as well as numerous small details of proper teeth health. She's also very friendly. They didn't try to sell me anything, which happens at other dentists I've been to. I also found it funny the dentist himself said in response to my question about the Waterpik pamphlet saying research said it's better than flossing, "Well, it depends on who you're paying to do the research" and explained there's a debate in the real scientific world between the utility of Waterpik vs floss, but they're both better than nothing, a similar debate to electric vs regular toothbrush in that it depends more on how the user brushes the teeth. read more

Today even though I showed up a week too early for a crown, and I had some pain , they tracked down where my permanent crown was in transit , and fit me in as soon as it arrived, that same afternoon. They are very timely, I am never waiting in the waiting room for longer than a few minutes. Dr. Skinner is very kind and attentive. Dr. Skinner has been our dentist for many years. Last year he made a wonderful life changing bridge for me. He went beyond expections and did something no other dentist could have done. He made me a 6 teeth That has changed my smile and my confidence . Everyone is amazed by this "outside the box " feat. I had an partial for many many years that needed to be fixed. Dr. Skinner tried something completely different and made a 6 tooth bridge that is like my own teeth. I couldn't have implants as I had no bone left in the front of my mouth but this apparatus is just like having them. Thank you Dr. Skinner. Words are not enough to say so! read more

Now, at age 28, I finally don't mind going to the dentist. In fact, I love going! The entire office staff goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. I was a patient of Dr.Skinner for years and he was a pretty good dentist overall. However as time went on it appears he worries more about the customers with a larger dental procedure. I was told to come into the office and he worked on me for about 10 minutes and said I don't have time for this now the nurse in the room even looked at him funny. I explained I'm having a newborn coming premature and don't know when I can come back to finish the procedure maybe 4 weeks. Dr. Skinner said that's fine do what you can do. I immediately told the nurse give me back my money I'm done being treated so poorly. I wouldn't recommend Dr. Skinner to my worst enemy. The funny thing is all his nurses apologized for his actions as they witnessed it but he was never man enough to admit he was wrong not a phone call or letter from him. Overall a miserable man that picks and chooses his favorite customers. Do your self a favor a find a dentist who will make sure your not in pain or uncomfortable before you leave their office. read more

Good dentistry, but watch the pricing! We've been loyal customers for over 10 years. Always had good dentistry, but now been disillusioned by recent billing. Had a tooth we tried to save. Paid them mass amount of money for preparing the tooth. They sent me to another dentist he referred who did the actual drilling and root canal. Before I could get back to Dr. Skinner for the final cap, had major pain. The tooth had cracked and needed extraction. I paid my portion again and the insurance company decided they could not cover the $39 exam fee AGAIN. So the dentist billed me for it. After the exorbitant fee for extraction, they billed for another exam fee which included a 30 second shaking of the tooth to see it was broken. After discussing with the Dr. and telling him I thought the exam fee on top of everything else paid and still losing the tooth, he took it personally against his character and unloaded on me. Several years ago, had a similar situation with this dentist where the insurance company would not pay for half of a partial denture because they didn't do their homework to discover the insurance would not pay for it because the one it replaced was too old. Stupid excuse from the insurance, but the dentist's people should have picked that up and let me know it was possible. So I paid the several hundred dollars over a period of months. They should have known and let me known in advance about all these charges. Makes me wonder what else I may have paid for that I didn't need to. read more

Dr. Skinner is kind, thorough, down-to-earth, and personable. He explains everything in layman's terms and takes time to make sure you understand everything that's going on with your teeth. From Iowa and had a cap fall off my front tooth while visiting my son. Dr. Skinner's staff was outstanding and got me in the next morning. He was very personable and got me glued back together, so I could eat again. Very professional operation and he will be my son's dentist. Honestly, I've been looking for a dentist in Tampa for 20 years. I finally found one! I can't recommend them highly enough. I've had a cleaning and fillings. First the cleaning: I have been to several of the chain dental clinics, they all wanted to charge for a "deep cleaning", which as a former dental assistant I knew wasn't indicated. Low and behold I go to Dr. Skinner and finally got a real cleaning not just a polish. I needed fillings and just had them. I didn't even feel the injection and the fillings match my teeth so well I can't see them. It was fast and so extremely pleasant. The staff is honest, efficient and friendly. My daughter recommended that I see Dr. Skinner for a check up, as I wasn't thrilled with my current dentist. At Dr. Skinner's, I was greeted in a friendly, yet professional way, waited for no more than 10 minutes (I was filling out paperwork), and had a panoramic x-ray (something I hadn't had in YEARS). I was then led by Sheila, the hygienist and had a very thorough cleaning and bitewing x-rays. Dr. Skinner examined my teeth and recommended a preventative measure for my gumline recession. At the following visit, he did the procedure with minimal discomfort (I hate shots!), and explained everything he did and why it was a good idea. I'm completely happy with this practice! read more

Doc Skinner & Crew are amazing. I've had dental problems all my life and in the 34 years since I moved to Tampa I've been referred to many "old line" established dental practices. I'm the kind of person who tends to be brand-loyal, so if you don't meet my criteria for a professional service you are performing for me--and I am paying for--I won't be back. Doc Skinner & Crew blew away all my reservations about the practice of dentistry and exceed my expectations in every category. The hygienists especially Sheila are the best in town (I've had many who couldn't hold a candle to them believe me) and all the work Doc Skinner & Crew performed for me at my relatively advanced age has been Grade A top notch. Angela in the front office is incredibly knowledgeable on insurance ins and outs and will get you accurate estimates on anything you decide to get done. You are in the driver's seat once Doc Skinner gives you all your options. When coordinating his work with other specialists whose services you may require, he is totally professional and "plays well with others"!!!!! Besides which he is great to talk to and very personable. A gem all the way around. Plus the view from the dental chair isn't the dull boring claustrophobic bare-knuckling white wall, it's a garden with an ivied brick wall and a fountain with splashing water and palm trees and blue skies and (depending on the weather) puffy white clouds and lizards and butterflies all over. There is a dentist in town whose last name sounds like he ought to be running an Italian restaurant, who sends out advertisements in the mail once a week. Forget it. Go with the BEST! read more
