One of the biggest things for me was the communication--he's super easy to talk to, actually listens to your concerns, and explains everything in a way that makes sense. I never felt rushed or like my input didn't matter. The procedure went well and recovery was exactly as he communicated. Overall the results have been great and the recovery was way smoother than I expected. The whole office vibe is professional but also very friendly and welcoming. If you need an ENT who is both highly skilled and just a genuinely nice person, Dr. Kangelaris is definitely the one to see! Highly recommend.

Here's the updated review with your additional paragraph on imperfections:…read more Dr. Gerald Kangelaris and the team at San Francisco Otolaryngology are fantastic. The practice is staffed by incredibly caring doctors and run by an unbelievably warm and efficient staff. I especially want to give a shout-out to Sylvia at the Union Square office, who was not only very warm and compassionate as I felt nervous about my CT scan but also went above and beyond to get me a cup of hot water for my tea. That gesture was so thoughtful and reminded me of flight attendants who have very serious safety jobs but are also warm and attentive. At the other office, I really appreciated Jackie, who was very helpful with scheduling. Carol, who did the CT scan of my sinuses, was unbelievably compassionate and managed to calm me down without even realizing it just by her presence. One of the highlights of this practice is the exceptional approach to informed consent. The informed consent for the CT scan was the best I've seen, comparing the radiation exposure from the scan to the amount one gets in everyday life. This visual and relatable comparison is fantastic. As a law professor specializing in the ethics of informed consent and decision-making, I found this example to be excellent--on par with the LASIK procedure and research studies I've seen at UCSF, where the attention to informed consent is exceptional. There were a few imperfections in the medical care that I want to highlight. Communication with the doctor is through a medical assistant rather than directly, which isn't ideal. Additionally, I noticed some inconsistencies in advice, such as whether to start antibiotics right away or delay for a month until my next appointment. Another imperfection, which seems somewhat typical of practices not affiliated with academic hospitals, was a slight unfamiliarity with some research questions. For example, I had asked whether sinusitis is associated with other risks, such as cardiac risk or systemic inflammation. The doctor confidently said there hadn't been any studies on the topic, but I later found out that studies have been conducted. To be fair, I can't speak to the quality of those studies since I'm just a law school professor who studies studies, not a doctor or medical school professor! Despite these imperfections, I really appreciated that Dr. Kangelaris didn't push surgery, even though that's obviously a profitable option. Instead, he took a thoughtful, non-surgical approach by first suggesting a CT scan to assess the situation and then doing a culture to identify the best antibiotics, even mentioning that a longer course of antibiotics might be necessary. The office itself is beautiful, clean, and conveniently located, though parking at both locations is on the expensive side. Overall, this is an excellent practice with warm, attentive staff and a thoughtful, patient-centered approach to care. Highly recommend!

Absolutely unacceptable experience -- I would never recommend this practice…read more On Monday, June 2, we brought our newborn to SF Ear Nose & Throat Medical Group for a tongue tie procedure. We were told by the doctor that if we had any concerns post-procedure, he could see us right away for a follow-up. By Friday, June 6, our lactation consultant expressed serious doubts about the effectiveness of the procedure and urged us to follow up with the doctor immediately. We called the office expecting some level of urgency and basic follow-through. Instead, we were told the earliest available appointment would be August 6 -- two full months later. This was completely contrary to what the doctor had promised. When we pushed for an earlier date, we were met with cold indifference and told it was "impossible." Unable to wait, went to a different ENT specialist who performed a laser procedure. That doctor was shocked that the original clinic refused to see us for a simple follow-up consultation just days after the procedure. The lack of professionalism and basic responsiveness at SF Ear Nose & Throat Medical Group was disappointing. We deeply regret choosing this practice and would strongly caution other parents to look elsewhere.

I've dealt with surgeon offices before and can say that Dr. Yung's office was the best of the bunch as far as responsiveness and patience I had so many questions and I concerns about the process but the office staff answered all of them, carefully reading my emails and answering everything in an exceptionally timely matter. Dr. Yung herself had very good bedside manner. She listened to me, answered questions and, when I was about to go under for the surgery, she comforted me by telling me that I was safe. Further, when I was at my first follow-up, I cried from relief that everything was healing well and they turned off the lights and gave me a weighted blanket to help me calm down. The results are amazing. There's still a lot of work to be done but it's all on my side as far as being confident in using the voice that the surgery has made available to me. I've shared my results with other people who have given rave reviews and several of them are planning to consult with Dr. Yung as well. I will always recommend Dr. Yung and her staff.

He had secretly been recording our medical visits without knowledge or consent. * 2. Re Dr Challapalli: My family had me see her for a one & done clean well organized 2nd Opinion Consult after seeing 2 vry good Reconstructive Surgeons. To our surprise, after she was very tardy to our consult, she interrupted our consult 3 x actually leaving our mtg 2x before abruptly ending our consult without finishing but abruptly running out to take a 3rd call, The opposite of clean, not in a good way - to make matters even messier, she not only omitted the actual 2nd opinions of both surgeons from the consult report, she invented her own facts, writing a sloppy thrown together 2nd opinion consult report omitting the diagnosis or assessments of the 2 well regarded surgeons opinions whose 2nd opinion we came to receive but also we were forced to report false information, incorrect, misleading misinformation, numerous inaccuracies cited in her report. Clearly, abruptly leaving a 2nd opinion consult 3x it is no surprise she had to make things up since she was not present for the whole consult. 3. Reporting the totality of misleading information, inaccuracies, false information & errors to her, her MA pushed back with citing a so called "policy" against making corrections. She then further included a whole procedure she wholly invented which I have never had creating a further misleading false narrative, bad summation of misinformation & posted this to her report & the medical notes. 4. After experiencing Dr Challapalli's messy consult followed up by reading through her sloppy work, if this is indication of her actual reconstructive work, this was a very eye opening experience to say the least. 5. Initially, I had been referred to Dr Kangalaris, SF Oto & came here for chronic sinusitis infection. After reading Dr Kazi's poor reviews here, we elected to give him the benefit of the doubt with an open mindset after Dr Kangalaris was unavailable. Not only did Dr Kazi entirely miss my chronic sinusitis infection, I had to get the antibiotics at urgent care since he all ENT Otolaryngology Style failed to treat the chronic sinusitis. Everyone has bad days rt?! While I did not experience the same dismissal or rudeness with Dr Kazi as the other reviewers here, this side of him came out at later visit after being informed he was secretly recording our medical mtgs w Concealed AI Scribe Device AFTER assuring me, he would respect the confidentiality of anything deemed as "Sensitive Content" within the context of our private provider patient medical visit. Essentially, he lied It was someone else who revealed he was secretly recording with his hidden AI SCribe Device which he had been concealing in his pocket while without knowledge or consent he was secretly recording My family & I suspected something not in a good way was going on reading through his clinical notes which were Hallucinatory, distorted, out of context, riddled w inaccuracies & misleading misinformation. We then reported all of this for as much as we had reviewed by then. Dr Kazi was dismissive & rude per others here!

Don't waste your time, this practice is terribly unorganized and unprofessional…read more I submitted a request for an appointment online and received a call from the front desk to schedule an appointment. I stated in my request and on the phone that I wanted to book for the Union Square location. The person on the phone was helpful and suggested Dr. Virginia Smith-Bronstein, we moved forward with booking the appointment and I received the confirmation for the 450 Sutter location. So far so good. Leading up to the appointment, I don't receive any type of appointment reminder other than a request to submit info via MyChart. I didn't think much of this at the time and submit the info. Day of the appointment, I arrive early and check in. As I'm waiting in the reception area, Silvia from the front desk comes over to me and says, "Oh did you get our message? Dr. Smith-Bronstein is in the San Rafael office." Um no, I was not contacted about this. I show her the confirmation that I booked for the Union Square location. Silvia asks me to confirm my phone number (which was correct), they had never attempted to contact me. I'm then informed that Dr. Smith-Bronstein is only in the SF Office every other Friday. I was immediately charged for the visit upon checking in. I ask to please be refunded. Silvia asks if I would like to reschedule, I decline. I ask again that I will be refunded for this appointment and Silvia says yes it's done. While I'm in the building lobby I receive a voicemail from Silvia asking if I would like to be refunded or apply it to my next visit. I had just told you less than 5 minutes before in-person that I wanted to be refunded and you had told me it was done! Then I had to waste more time out of my day emailing and calling them several times to get the charge refunded. Billing department tells me they can't find the charge and asks if I can send them the receipt (their own receipt) along with screenshot of my bank statement. Instead of calling me back, they call my emergency contact on file to discuss the billing issue. I understand that mistakes happen, but they weren't apologetic and didn't take any accountability for the mistake. As a new patient, how am I supposed to know which location the doctor is in on which days?Their lack of oversight and competency is why I will NOT be rescheduling with them. Complete waste of time and incredibly frustrating as I took time off work to attend this appointment. I wish I had listened to all of the other negative reviews for this office. Steer clear of this practice.
