The glass of red we stopped for wasn't the best but it was a good place to escape the icy winds for half an hour. They also do a good selection of tapas although I didn't partake on this occasion. I probably won't be rushing back to Margate in a hurry but if I do find myself here again, the Lighthouse Bar will definitely be worth a second visit.

The men's room, down a narrow staircase, was quite sanitary. Most importantly, of course, is the beer. They had a decent selection. The pints I had were all at the proper temperature (which was cold for what I was drinking) and were poured all the way to the top in nice glassware. The service was very good. My wife and I started off on a pub crawl to celebrate our arrival in a sunny beachside Broadstairs, where Dicken's Bleak House is located. The rest of England was under the clouds and rain of a cold midsummer storm... Broadstairs has a lot of bars, pubs and restaurants. The Dolphin seems to have its share of the local business, so we gave it a try. The barmaid was pretty busy, so I chatted with a couple of the locals while I waited. They were pretty interested in what part of the States I came from, and regaled me with a few homes and memories (one was old enough to remember the Tanks he met during the war!). I was asking them if any of the beers taps were for a local brew. They didn't think so, but the barmaid pointed to a hand marked tap and said it was very local. Had a pint of "#7" and enjoyed it. Too bad the Brits aren't into ice cold beer, but it was tasty even just cool.
