There is no official admission fee, a meager $2 donation per visitor is suggested on an acrylic box at the entrance. Housing a small collection of regional artifacts; informative displays about the life and everyday items of the indigenous people. A reconstructed Mastodon (a replica from a cast) stands in the entryway, a number of real fossils are on display. "Old Town Arkansas" is a walkthrough display of shops and offices from the early 1800's. This is a kid friendly place with a number of interactive displays and activities. If you don't expect this to be the MET, you will not be disappointed. Yes it is a small place but I really enjoyed the visit and will follow the website to see future exhibits.

Some tours may or may not have steps. Ask first. Cool down there, visually & temperature wise. Lots to see, truly amazing, pretty natural structures. There were parts of the cave closed to us that had bats. Their gift store sold the prettiest bracelet with different natural stones on it. It was a great day.

Oh and there are ancient petroglyphs (rock carvings). Uhhhh, what kind of a jerk would I be to give this less than 5-stars?? FYI from what I can tell, this cave shelter has several names...Indian Rock Cave AKA Indian Rock House AKA Indian Rock House Cave AKA Edgemont Shelter. And most of the rock art is located on the west side of the shelter. You can see the depiction of several human figures as well as a four-legged animal of some variety. There are also a number of lines and geometric shapes. Rad! You can access the shelter in a couple of different ways. There is a museum in the Indian Hills Golf Course parking lot and another log cabin next to it. There's a short trail with some stairs that start at the log cabin. You can also access the shelter from the golf course itself. Took the kids on a nice neat-ture walk along the trail that runs in front of the cave along with a stretch of cool rock formations. Easy hike for the most part - or you can always bail onto the golf course. We did get some bug bites and did see poison ivy along the trail. Forgot my measuring devices, but from what I've read, the rock shelter is a 100 feet wide, 50 feet high, and 97 feet deep. I've never been able to handle spelunking, so this is kinda the perfect cave size for this girl who is terrified of being underground and in tight spaces. None of that necessary here!

Has three buildings, an old Mercantile store filled with memorabilia when cotton was king. Next is the self guided tour though a completely refurbished cotton gin, unbelievable a must see. And last is the huge cotton seed bin turned into a museum displaying old equipment from the horse and buggy days. This is a hidden Arkansas treasure and very well worth the visit. The museum does an excellent job telling the story of Independence County and the surrounding region, with artifacts ranging from Native American history to pioneer life, military history, and everyday life in the Ozarks. One of my favorite parts was that the museum is housed in a historic 1936 National Guard Armory building, which adds another layer of history before you even walk through the exhibits.
