Totally doable with the distance. It's filled with other walkers/joggers in the evenings, but not too packed that it's uncomfortable. Just enough for inspiration. The recreation center is right next to the lake park, so you can always step inside to get your weights in after some Vitamin D and cardio. I'm impressed with the updates from Baton Rouge Rec Centers.

It's easier to keep an eye on your kids and the park is never over crowded. My son loves bringing his trucks into the sand area and I can sit and relax right next to him on the benches. There are restrooms right next to the playground/baseball fields. The walking trails are wide enough for multiple people to be walking, running and biking without bumping into each other- unlike highland. Overall great place and wish there were more like it in Baton Rouge.

As I've gotten older, I have much appreciation for the beauty that is Cat Island. Usually when I go there are people fishing, and others enjoying being out on the water, lounging on boats and even swimming. When there is a hard rain sometimes it can lead to river levels increasing and some flooding and the roads may be impassible to get to Cat Island. I love in some areas how the how the body of water looks like an oasis and an island. There are also beautiful moss trees. This is a nice day trip to adventure to when nature calls.

They have a…read moregood selection of workout equipment ranging from single target muscle group machines to free weights (good range of weights for the dumbbells) and they have a power lifting section with 6 squat/bench/dead lift racks. They offer different types of classes varying from yoga to dance. I've went to one of those classes and it does work. After you get over the pain if it's your first time like me. The only issues would be that they are having construction done so all the space isn't available, it's over crowded during certain times and you might have to change your workout routine, and finally the parking is hard to find.

It had been dry long enough for the trail to toughen up, but also long enough for hundreds of banana spiders to build webs across the trail. My next visit was much better. Unfortunately, there is significant damage to the trail. Both bridges across the bayou are washed out. Several sections of trail have sink holes large enough to swallow an inattentive rider. Standing water across sections of the trail means that drainage or bridges are needed. According to the map, the trail goes through the grass field, which is totally overgrown.
