Now as I was able to revisit as an adult, I believe with a bit more attention and restoration the city can recreate the magic that this place once had in the past. It has so much potential. The location is excellent- located in the hub of Jackson's art's center. There are several showings throughout the week - so there seems to always be an opportunity to stop by when looking for something to do in the city. My hope is more care, attention, and investment on the city's part would go into this prime location that could become a key staple premier spot for Jackson. I should also note that the sound equipment is great. Additionally, the staff and management are nice and very helpful.

The food from the small restaurant there was okay, I recall having their pulled-pork sandwich. I was quite the "Rascal" at the time, and got a few looks when I started chanting for the away team. Yes, it was twenty years ago, but back then, it was ok for a baseball stadium. Just beware of guys that spill mustard on you while you're walking through the place.

(Reconstructed dinosaur skeletons quite impressive.) Entry fee negligible; Certainly worth multiple return trips to really take in the outdoor trails, scenery, creatures. The centerpiece of the park is the controversial Andrew Jackson Statue which overlooks a waterfall. It is a nice and has some exceptional landscaping and gardening. The park is named after one of the city's long-time public work directors and it dates back to late 1800's. The garden has played host to many city events including Mayor inaugurations, press conferences, cocktail dinners and former Mayor memorials. It has brick paved walkways that go right through the park's foliage. The bricks are in desperate need of a good cleaning though. They are very dirty. There are also some cement benches situated around the park for visitors to sit and relax. Even though the garden is located downtown, it still has a peacefulness about it. I enjoyed my time at the Garden. It was a nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of the city. There is metered street parking in front on the park and along adjacent streets that are well in walking distance. You will also find some commercial parking lots in the area as well. You could bring some lunch and enjoy it in the garden. I would also recommend planning out additional stops at some of the other attractions in the area such ad City Hall and the Hinds County Veterans Memorial, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.

Unfortunately, they just aren't ready for prime time. Aside from the aforementioned hour, they brought out half the food about 15-20 minutes before everyone else. Growing up in Mississippi, one of the highlights of the entire year was when the State Fair arrived…read morein town every year at the beginning of October. It was even more thrilling when I was a teenager and no longer had to be accompanied by my parents!! Oh... the memories!! LOL How my friends and I managed to stay out of trouble, I have no idea! The State Fair still continues to come around at the beginning of October every year, but the grounds themselves aren't nearly as nice as they once were. Time has definitely taken its toll on the pavement, etc. Basically, watch out for cracks and don't trip. The Mississippi Coliseum is also located on the Fairgrounds which is where concerts are held as well as the Dixie National Rodeo (which comes around once a year). During these times, the Fairgrounds become parking for the Coliseum. As someone else mentioned in a review, the fence is now gone, so the huge slide (which is officially open during the State Fair) is now fair game all year long. I wouldn't want to be caught though because I would assume trespassing can come into play. Also, this is most definitely not the part of town I would want to be in late at night as it's not exactly safe. So play on the slide at night at your own risk and try to not get arrested.

This is a historic theater located in the Historic Farish Street District. The Alamo is one of only…read morea few dual purpose theaters in the country. It has been around since 1942 and has played host to musical legends such as B.B. King, Nat King Cole and Dorothy Moore. It now operates as a Not-For-Profit theatre and is available for rent. The money gained from rentals is used to keep the theater going. It closed in 1983 and reopend in 1997 after a community restoration effort. The outside of the theater has a nostalgic look and you will see some of sidewalk plaques with the images of legends that performed there. I love the old school marquee that they have out front too. There is a decent amount of free street parking available within walking distance of the theater. The theater has recently hosted music concert, plays, talks, comedy shows and independent films. It is a very nice theater, especially considering its age. But the interior is not that old having been completely renovated in 1997. The theater can seat 524 people, including balcony seating. I will admit that I find the are that the theater is located in to be a bit sketchy, and others have questioned the security of the area. So, I will just say be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye out. Anyway, it is a wonderful place not only to host an event, but watch one as well. I highly recommend catching a show here. If I am in Jackson again, I hope to catch a comedy show there.
