This is a HORRIBLY UNPROFESSIONAL business!! This Funeral Home was entrusted to handle the services…read morefor my 'Brother-in-Law, Father-in-Law, and Mother-in-Law' with dignity and grace. All 3 of the services were a collection of inappropriate procedures and totally unheard-of practices.(UNPROFESSIONAL) Confusion and an attitude of "hit-and-miss" was the order of the day with all three services. While this is probably one of few funeral homes in the area, I'd move a service to Pensacola to avoid such a catastrophe. BUYER BEWARE!! (UNPROFESSIONAL) They didn't compose and publish appropriate death notices, they failed to provide the information of what the family needed to file concerning the death, and they inflicted additional grief on family members through their UNPROFESSIONAL practices. The Funeral Home published death notices of both my Mother-in-Law and Father-in-Law without even spelling my Husband's name properly! (UNPROFESSIONAL) Even worse, my Husband was the only offspring of his father and this Funeral Home didn't even publish his name right, instead, all of these step-children (who were born long before my Father-in-Law had even met my Mother*in*Law) were listed with their illegitimate kids, (kids born out of wedlock or the product of an adulterous affair). (UNPROFESSIONAL) The notices totally falsified the relationship of people to my Father-in-Law. Not being acknowledged on your own father's death notice is the epitome of an unprofessional business. My Mother-in-Law's death notice made no mention of her marriage of 49 years to my Father-in-Law; (UNPROFESSIONAL) instead, it was a litany of attention to bad taste and socially unacceptable self-proclaimed titles. Who claims children born of an adulterous affair (with absolutely no blood relation to the deceased) as a Grandchild or Child?(UNPROFESSIONAL) While the product of an adulterous affair, and children born out of wedlock are celebrated in Century or Flomaton, the rest of society doesn't exactly put that type of behavior on parade and especially not in an obituary of a man who dedicated himself to living an honorable life.(UNPROFESSIONAL) Highlighting the indecencies of the behavior of specific individuals in an obituary of a man who has no relationship to him is beyond comprehension to any person with any civility. UNPROFESSIONAL, Neither my Father-in-Law nor his ONLY offspring believed in illegal and promiscuous lifestyles, and to have that type of behavior highlighted in his obituary isn't just unprofessional of the Funeral Home to do, it's also unthinkable to any educated person. UNPROFESSIONAL To tarnish a man's reputation after his death is grossly unfair to that person. (UNPROFESSIONAL) We don't usually expect much from an area that has widespread poverty and such a prevalence of uneducated people, (like the Century/Flomaton has) but, we did expect a minimal level of professionalism from the Funeral Director. Do yourself a favor and just avoid this place, they'll add nothing but additional stress to an already emotional situation.

I was not allowed to see him at all. Finally he was released to the funeral home. We were planning to have have him cremated per his wishes. The people at the funeral home gave us an "appointment" that we could see his body. When my daughter and granddaughter, and I arrived, I was desperate to see him. I was told no, we had time do the paperwork first. She meant pay. She seemed to be intentionally stalling and dragging out the paperwork. I got very upset because all I could think about was telling my beloved husband goodbye and that I loved him one last time. She walked out and told me that she couldn't deal with me. Well, I'm sorry but the hurt feelings could have been avoided if she had just let us see him FIRST. Then, when the paperwork was finally finished, she told us we had 10 minutes. I told her that the man told us over the phone 15 to 20 minutes. It was for "ID only". She pushed a paper across the table and told me to look right there as she pointed, this is the policy. I just burst into tears. She led us back to the room where he lay and let us in. We stayed with him for a while, said our goodbyes and then we left. Losing your mate if 36 years, unexpectedly, to a horrible accident, and having him taken away to the coroner is awful enough but to be treated like we were at this funeral home, no compassion at all for the newly widowed wife or family. I wish we had never even heard the name Hughes funeral home. I strongly recommend people, that you start planning now and avoid this funeral home. My husband and I were new to the area and had no idea. When you are in a business where people are devastated by the loss of a loved one, you dont add to the pain which these people did.

My mothers health crisis, and death was extremely unexpected and when I arrived at the funeral home, I was treated with the utmost respect by the staff. Justin, Malachi, etc we're all consummate professionals from the very beginning. Like many people that are confronted by the untimely decisions that come with an unexpected death..I was a bit emotional at the time everything transpired when I arrived at their business. They took the time to explain every decision to me, make sure I understood everything that I was signing, and helped me along with one of my friends pick out the stationary, the vault, casket, organize the services, etc. They and their staff were constantly available to answer any and ALL questions I had which took a huge amount of stress off of my shoulders. It was also extremely convenient how I was able to upload the selections of the songs that were played in rotation at the memorial, as well as the pictures on the website for the chapel services. After the graveside service by my moms chosen pastor they remained in contact to answer other questions that I had regarding followups about the death certificates as well. In addition, they worked to get the funeral done in a professional expedient manner despite the fact that it was a holiday weekend. They actually called Beal Memorial cemetery ahead of time - to make sure that the manager was on staff so I could set up everything there. I made it there with an hour to spare! If I could give both them and their staff 10 STARS I would.

I knew he wanted to be cremated and placed in the memorial wall at the Barrancas Cemetery in Pensacola NAS. So I did a Google search, I saw that this place was the closest funeral home to NAS that was open, and I figured that they've done the Barrancas thing before, so I called them. What followed next was service that was so wonderful that it took a huge load off of my mind. During our initial meeting, everyone was so kind and delivered customer service like Chick-fil-A employees. They have different service packages based on the amount of life insurance there is, which is actually pretty nice, because you don't even get bothered with seeing the various boxes or flower arrangements that you can't afford. I hate to talk about it so nonchalantly, but it was like building a burger at a gourmet burger restaurant. We just went down the list checking off stuff together. The box, the flowers, the prayer cards, the catering packages. It was really easy and nice. They will take your photos, digital or tangible, and add them all to the slide show at the service for you. So you don't have to worry about scanning them all yourself. Also, side note, if you have some real photos that you've been watching to make digital, just give them a flash drive during the photo process and they'll put them all on it for you. So nice. The actual service itself went seamlessly. We showed up and everything was set up perfectly. The priest we hired did a good job, and the funeral home was able to coordinate wonderfully with the full Naval honors that he was given due to his service. The catering was laid out for us and the staff there was going around asking everyone if they needed anything, taking trash from us, and just being super helpful in general. Overall, this place was perfect. I couldn't imagine them going anymore above and beyond for me and my family during our time of turmoil. If you're looking for somewhere to go and you're reading this review, call them. I vouch for them.

Customer service wasn't what it should be for people who are morning the loss of a loved one. We were very rushed and felt like we were pushed out the door. They have the ability to produce almost anything you ask for but the finale product doesn't hold up. I go to my daughters garden a lot and wanted it to be as special as I could possibly make it. After eight months of going, after the headstone and bench were placed, there is a long thick line down the headstone and the writing on the front of the headstone is coming off. I went back and complained. I told them that it wasn't sealed. I told them that I wasn't happy and the headstone should hold up longer than a couple of years. They were very rude and short with me. They told me that it was sealed. I don't believe them and am so not happy. After 10 months, the vase which was attached to the headstone was laying on the ground. Janice, the groundskeeper at the cemetery, who is most kind, told them and the vase was reattached. I sit in Kathleen's garden a lot, look around at the headstones which were placed around the same time and after, they all have similar problems. This company has a monopoly on this type of business, because there isn't anywhere else to go and obtain a headstone. Therefore, they can get away with selling you anything at your most vulnerable time in life. It's a shame that they are taking advantage and able to get away with it! There's nothing wrong with having a monopoly either. When people are paying for a quality product, give them the quality which they are asking for.
