    Chinese Beef Jerky
    Robert C.

It's down right tough to find GOOD Chinese Beef Jerky anymore. It's actually almost impossible as Jimmy's Beef Jerky out of Vancouver Canada closed its doors back in 2005. This was a childhood favorite back in the 60's. New York City Chinatown has pretty good jerky but it's far to go although years ago I use to have it mailed to me by a friend. Trudging up Jackson Street to get to this market is worth it. The jerky is not as thin as Jimmy's but worth buying just the same. It's now $17 for 6.5 oz. Take a walk here is great exercise. It's a smallish corner store.

What I can only describe as the best beef jerky ever! I've enjoyed this beef jerky many times over the years but this was my first time inside Jackson Market. I'd highly recommend, it's the only beef jerky I like!

Hours of operation (kinda). Be prepared to wait. Doesn't open on time.

Read the other reviews and look at the pics first before checking out this market. Don't go on a Wednesday because they're closed. The hours are wrong on yelp and google. Even though the hours posted on the door states 2-7pm, the employee/owner does not feel he needs to be there on time. I was there at 2 and waited 15 mins before leaving. Later, I called to see if the store was opened and an employee answered stating that he usually opens at 2:30 because he's coming from another location. I don't understand why he can't just change his hours to reflect the actual hours here's there. This happened to another individual before so this might be the norm. Today was my second attempt in coming to this location. Left empty handed and disappointed. However, after looking at some other reviewer's pics, maybe it was for the best.

    Original (Large; $15) Beef Jerky

Tasted their spicy beef jerky as a gift from a coworker and fell in love! The sweet glaze is so good. The jerky also has a nice crimson color, which was pretty to look at as I teared it into smaller pieces. Visited their store for the first time on a Wednesday around 2pm and parked in front of the store by the yellow curb marked 30 min parking. Inside the shop, they also sold other items which I didn't pay attention to. A girl came out from the room behind the register to greet me. Too bad they ran out of the spicy ones so I bought a large bag of the original ($15), which weighs about 6.5 oz. Yes, this was a bit pricey for beef jerky but hey, it makes me feel good to support a local business that is good at what they do. The original is a little too sweet but still tasty. Hopefully they will have the spicy ones in stock next time I visit ~

What do you give friends from Hawaii when they come or you visit them? Look no further... BEEF JERKY! Once a dark, dingy neighborhood grocery store, this Nob Hill institution makes no bones about what they're know for. They sell 5 oz. and 1/2 lb. packages of their homemade beef jerky, vacuum packed in their new modernized plastic wrap (a huge improvement from their former stapled plastic bag with a paper label on top). Best times for beef jerky: a) watching that riveting movie or TV series b) riding on a long car ride out of town c) chewing during those idle, boring moments at home The jerky, unlike the Asian made versions, tend to be a bit harder with just enough sweetness. Like that they don't have a heavy MSG hand. If you're heading to the 808 and can't think of any gifts, stop here and bring a few packs back. You'll get a definite "Aloha" smile!

Excellent beef jerky, as fellow Yelpers wrote, it transports me back to my youth - let's not mention how many years ago that was! These are addicting, they cut the beef thin like the Mongolian BBQs. Great service. It's a family owned, local business, open since 1960. The beef jerky is made of U.S.D.A. choice beef and is preservative and MSG free. It's a good value at $7 for 5oz and $10 for 1/2 pound.

Should've bought more than 2 bags... Frankly, Jackson Market doesn't look like much from the outside. It's a hole-in-the-wall joint so if you blink (while wizzing down Jackson St) you may miss it. Who would've guessed this non-descript mini-market makes the tastiest beef jerky? They only make 1 flavor and sell 2 different sizes (1/2 lb $10.50 and 5 oz $7.50). It's thinly sliced, slightly sweet, sticky, beefy, chewy, goodness. The owner is very nice, cheerful, and will give you a sample. Next time I visit SF, I'm stocking up!

This place is so good and the employees are so nice! They also have little fish to look at in a tank. I definitely recommend going here.

It is also the oldest corned beef company established in San Francisco as well. We only like to get our Povi from Roberts Corned Meats because the quality of it beats anywhere else. I've tried other Povi Masimas and can taste the difference. NOBODY and I mean NOBODY is touching Robert's Corned Meats. The gentleman Edgar I believe was his name had helped us as we did an over the phone order for 8 whole boxes and asked them to seal each one as we were sending the boxes to family overseas. The transaction was very fast as always! Sign a paper, provide the money and wait for your boxes to come out. Boom, done! Each time we get an order, the worker always provides the service to load our car with the Povi which is such a huge plus! We really appreciate the generosity and great service each visit! This is why this place gets such a high rating, the service is top tier and the meats are top notch! The parking is super rough as it's on one of the busiest streets in the city near the freeways but trust me it's worth the struggle. There is an alleyway around the corner of the building you can park in but it is a hit or miss. It is also cash preferred/only as well! The inside of the place is always clear and neutral setting. I love that it has so many old school pictures to view! It's also very clean as well! They offer so many other meats as well, sausages, bacon, linguica, pastrami, brisket, beef tongue, pork legs and cooked meats. I might be missing a few but I'm telling you, this is the place to get your meats. It's truly worth it! There is a reason Roberts Corned Meats are still in business for so many years, they are the real deal. Thank you Roberts Corned Meats for your amazing service and items served, you've placed a mark on a lot of us Polynesians - specifically my Samoan people. The functions won't ever be the same without your Povi Masima! I hope you all look into this place and love it just as my family and folks do. You won't regret it.

The bread is toasty and warm when served. Most importantly, everything in the sandwich taste fresh. I think I found my go to sandwich spot near work. Price is similar to most sandwich spots in the area. It's San Francisco so expect around $15-$20 for the sandwich. Luckily both times I've been here I didn't need to wait in line for anything.
