Considering I was painfully geeky, I loved to hate this school when I was a teenager. Everyone is…read moreOBSESSED with football. Personally, I could not care less. They had an absolutely excellent vocal program, but the teacher has since retired, and music program has been substantially cut in junior high, so I doubt it's nearly as good as it used to be. Some argue that the football brings in money for other things, but of course, during my high school years, there was that whole debacle where a levy that was desperately needed to continue funding different programs and the new building, and it rested ENTIRELY on whether or not we made it to the state championships. We didn't. The levy failed. We didn't have a public busing system for 2+ years. Many "less important programs" like French club, chess club, and so on were cut (and this of course happened the year I'd been slated to be president of both). This is problematic when the majority of the high school's parents are blue collar workers - how are the students going to GET to school??!?!?! Overall, I enjoyed going here when I could avoid the stupid jocks, but I wouldn't send my kids here.

It's true that they were and still are obessed with football. But the school is crap. Half of my…read moregraduating class dropped out and went and got their G.E.D.'s the next day. Why? Because we wern't learning anything, and we had jobs.Money was more important then wasteing time sitting in class taking the same stupid quiz we took in that type of class the year before. All while the teachers seat the jocks together and walk around them pointing out the answers. Not to mention the funding issues. When I first arrived at the H.S. their were certain spots in the roof that leaked. How did they fix that?By placing trashcans under the leaks. When my brother went there 6 years later there were the same trash cans under the same spots. But their was a new building for workouts when it's raining.Even though when I was there we had 4 gyms, only one of them was for gym class. I was actually a cheerleader there my last year,as much as I hate to admit it.They asked me to join, I never went to try outs. But I still hate the way that they run that school. We begged for 4 years to have a phyc. class, there were 3 qualified teachers already working there at the time. One of the teachers had been petioning for the same thing. We eventually got it, but it was one semester and it was our last year their. They cut it when my brother was in school. Apparently they have cut a lot of things. They had been trying to cut the busses for massillon schools while I was in middle school. My class actually rallied togeher, got petions going, and had a walk out. The mayor (don't get me started on him) actually came and spoke with us.They didn't shut the busses down until I was in H.S.. Which was a pain considering it's freezing in the winter, they don't post the school closings for massillon until the last min, and by that time almost everyones already on their way there.Imagine walking from k-mart to the H.S. during an ice storm or heck even a normal winter. My parents both worked midnights. They got home about the time I was in 2nd mod. The mods to! ugh! 1st mod was at 7:15,school let out at 215. Lunch was 15 min.thats 15 to get from studyhall or your class to lunch and then to study hall. From anywhere in the school. We only had 5 min between classes to. That school is huge and that was not enough time to make it from one end to the very other expeshally if you had to go to your locker or use the restroom. Some teachers would give detentions if you had to go during class.others would lock you out when you went and then you got isc for being in the halls. Heck they even serve GREEN hotdogs for lunch.Because they don't plan enough food that's on the menu and nobody ever takes the hotdogs so they just reuse them day after day whenever they run out of food about 7th lunch mods, if you got 9th mod your better off just waiting till you get home to eat. Overall that school has no planning for ANYTHING at all.Nothing.Except football and the players on the team.Who gives a crap about education? NOT MASSILLON. We have 3 children of our own now and we WILL NOT be sending our kids to massillon city schools. NO MATTER WHAT they will not be going there. Most of the people I've talked to who have went through massillon school system agree that regardless of what we have to do we are not sending our children there.

I sent my children there for 4 years. It started off nicely. They seemed to have a good staff and…read morethey seemed to be attentive to our kids. Once my second child started going there (at 8 weeks old), things went downhill. On the second day she received an incident report. A teacher was changing her and bumped her head on the shelve above. I tried to stay calm, things happen. Later, my youngest daughter had three incidents of an older child biting her. Three times this happened. I requested to have the child separated from mine. I then received an incident (at 1.5 years old) that my daughter's arm was pulled out of the socket. She wanted a drink from the drinking fountain and the teacher would not let her and pulled her away by grabbing her arm. Things seemed to calm down as she went into the toddler rooms. I love Ms. Taylor, Ms. Christina, and the newer Ms. Britani. I then saw a disturbing situation with the afternoon preschool teacher last week (10/10/18). I saw the female teacher screaming at the kids, she hovered over them, completely red faced and screaming. She pulled one kid off by grabbing her arm. I stood there and made sure she knew I was watching. I called my husband as I drove away, asking what I should do and if I should report it. I have debated numerous times on if I should change where my kids go or if I was over protective or overreacting. I honestly stayed because they were opened past 6pm and with traffic it was a safety net. My oldest daughter rides the KK bus but has been late 4 times so far this year (not even a semester in). The final straw came this week. When KK gave the families 10 days to find new bussing. They will no longer bus the students because the bus that the kids use is "too expensive to fix and this is the best business decision for us." This forced us to finally move on, despite all the reasons why we should have earlier. I am not a perfect parent but sometimes convenience wins out. I would not recommend that students attend this facility. It does have a few amazing teachers but the turnover is high and many of the new hires are far from superior. I regret staying as long as we did but I am excited for our new adventure as a family.
