Today I went to look at cars with my mother, with no intention to buy today. I live in Rome, GA, so we started there. After being thoroughly frustrated by poor service, we decided to look for another Chevy dealership. Jackson Chevy is about 45 minutes away, but they had the car I thought I really wanted, so we drove up. THANK GOODNESS! Talk about a low-pressure dealership! Damon Skates was our salesperson. We'd called ahead, and the car we were interested in was already pulled up. Damon came out with the keys and let us take it for a spin without trying to push a sale. We were thinking that we'd try it out, see the offer, and then go back to local dealership to see if they could match (or beat) the price. But the total "out the door" price was just slightly above what I was looking for, so Damon said he wanted to do some math (again - not at all pushing the sale), and came back with another proposition: a slightly used (but much better) car with a better warranty and for less than my target price. We took that for a spin and I knew it was the one to go for. He came out to talk to us, but I asked him to give my mother and I a few minutes to talk, so he said he'd be in the office and to let him know if we needed anything. Again, absolutely no pressure. No high intensity, make a sale no matter what brinksmanship. Just a salesperson allowing customers to consider their options.
This is the third car I've bought. In my experience, dealerships are places that happy people go to lose their minds. But Jackson Chevy was the exact opposite. At no point did I feel like a mark whose sale was necessary to hit a target. In giving another option, Damon wasn't about pushing or forcing a sale so much as just throwing another option out there. This was the most relaxed car-buying experience I've had.
I hope I don't need another car for a long while, but if I do, I'm coming back here.
If you are looking for a car, come here. Ask for Damon. And enjoy a truly pleasant, pressure-free experience.
