Called 1 day in advanced to have a vehicle towed, explained it was urgent and asked for a quote. I was told approx. $80 and to call back the next day to book an actual towing. Called the next day and was again quoted $80, stressed it was time sensitive and they said they would send someone right out.
2.5 hours later a driver showed up. Hooked up the vehicle, did NOT have me sign anything (which I later learned is a violation of the Consumer Protection Act as of January 1, 2017) and towed my vehicle to my mechanic of choice. Upon arriving, I went to pay with debt to which the driver said he didn't have a machine and only took cash (again, I learned it was a violation of the Consumer Protection Act) and that the actual cost was $120.
My mechanic informed me he's seen this happen before and it's easier just to pay them to go away than it is to fight it, so he offered up the $120 (as I didn't have any cash so he loaned me the money) and the driver left.
I called to complain the next day and the person on the phone said it would cost $80 just to show up, plus mileage. I argued that I specifically gave them the mileage when asking for a quote but they didn't budge. I went to their website to double check their pricing but it wasn't (and still isn't!) listed on their website, which is again another violation of the Consumer Protection Act (read about it here: https://news.ontario.ca/mgs/en/2015/12/stronger-rules-for-towing-and-vehicle-storage-services.html).
TL;DR
If you are going to be using Jack's Towing, be sure to get EVERYTHING in writing first. read more
