Seafood was exceptional and will be returning for all future seafood purchases. It's only a stones throw from where I live and it killed me almost when I moved interstate a couple times as I couldn't find anything close that compared. Such a huge range of seafood!! From whole fish, that if you wanted gutted or filleted they'll do it for you and also will hand you the scrappy offcuts so you can make stock or whatever. No mess in your own kitchen, you beauty!! They also have a huge range of crustaceans and shellfish and all the iddy biddy bits like oysters, mussels and scallops. Not to mention all the different sized octopus and squids. One part I wish I could throw myself over and allow my skin to take over the aroma is the smoked fish!!! I freaking love smoked fish!!! I grew up on it as my Popsie always got some for Easter and Christmas. My parents also smoked our catches (usually Tommies) when we were kids. It was from then that stemmed my smoked fish addiction. All of their fish (apart from the smoked sliced salmon, I think!) is smoked on premises. You know this place is fresh when you see the workers out the back doing the sorting/filleting etc. However, there are a few fish that obviously gets imported but they label that to let consumers know. I'm off now to make a delicious seafood chowder and oysters Kilpatrick using what I bought today for my hubby's valentine's day meal. Yep I'm a good wifey!

While it is pretty casual inside the food is much more than you might expect from what looks like a shack on the beach. We enjoyed the fish of the day, grilled served with a few chips and salad. We also shared a tomato salad entree and some bread. Food was fresh, high quality and perfectly prepared. Portions were very reasonable - this is not a place where you need to order an appetizer instead of a main course to avoid over eating. Service was very warm and welcoming and you just can't beat the view. If you want to eat inside away from the heat, advance reservations are essential. Recommended.

The white building on the top of the cliff, known to us all as the Star of Greece…read more The Star of Greece is famed for its' view of the ocean, being perched right on the cliffs above Port Willunga Beach. It is also famous for its' seafood, and seasonal, local produce driven food and wine menu. Recently, the Star had a makeover which has resulted in even better views of the ocean from every table, and a contemporary, bright feel. Local art adds colour. Before perusing the Autumn menu, we opt for a glass of bubbles out on the deck, which you can also book to dine upon. Service is friendly, chatty but not obtrusive. We are kept informed and engaged in chat when there was a bit of a delay for our mains to come out, which was good customer service. Tables are set classically with white cloths, and a little bit of nature in the form of a potted succulent. Nice glassware for sparkling, whites and reds is offered. Chef sends with his compliments an amuse bouche of tiny smoked potato cubes, smoked mascarpone, and a lightly spiced potato crisp. A little mouthful of heaven smoky, crunchy, potato still al dente with bite, and not over seasoned with salt. Crumbed croquettes of 'brandade' or salt cod are served with fresh crab meat, potato mousse, smoked roe and sprinkled with spiced powders ($18). My MIL loved it! Mr Wino's special of the day ($16) was white anchovies presented in their own tin, with a garlic mayo and toasts. Gone in mere seconds! Pumpkin tofu ($16) is not a 'true' tofu as there is no soy in it. In fact, this is far better! You can taste the pure flavour of every ingredient. The tofu is silken and wobbling and rich with pure, savoury pumpkin flavour. Seed crisp is crunchy and studded with roasted pepitas. Savoury Japanese pumpkin is also served roasted over coals, with just a hint of sweetness. MIL opts for the Star of Greece classic, Kangaroo Island battered whiting, chunky hand cut chips, watermelon salad and sauce gribiche ($33). Pretty in pink, my house made fettuccine is stained with an earthy but not overly flavoursome pink beetroot sauce, sprinkled with toasted walnuts and adorned with a slice of heirloom yellow beetroot ($29). As pretty as it was, it was a little cold, and while I polished off the lot it wasn't as flavoursome as my pumpkin starter. Glorious greens. For an extra vitamin boost we also have a serving of the seasonal veggies, with truffle oil and roasted walnuts ($10), which is perfectly cooked, glossy and fragrant from the truffle oil. We were all happy to eat our greens! Afterwards or before, the beach beckons. A stroll along the orange cliffs with sand beneath your toes is very good for the soul, and for digestion!

We found out that the previous owners told the new buyers how to continue the legacy and they taught well. The battered King George was crispy and cooked to perfection. The crumbed was also really tasty, they had a wide range of salads and drinks and the salads were very tasty. The nuggets were also delightful and tasted really crispy and meaty and just delicious. The inside is well kept and pretty tidy and it looks like your average fish and chipper but trust me the food is much more than average. I will definitely be returning, 5 Stars!

Please note that you are paying extra for quality bites here and like Goldilocks and the 3 Bears size does matter... No wait, portion control is important... Well just order more than you think of everything except sides. $8.50 per piece of King George Whiting fried + 50c to have it done grilled in lemon pepper dressing isn't quite the cheap Sunday night takeaway we were expecting. However, the fish was incredibly well cooked (still tender) and seasoned with a tangy oregano and lemon pepper dressing. I also enjoyed the juiciest lemon pepper calamari rings but order double what you think you can handle as when they're not battered they are only half size. Chips were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and a small serving is plenty for 2. The service is incredibly quick and friendly, they even know the locals by the first name. The shop doesn't have that caked in 30 years of grease feel and is clean with a well laid out menu. This would have to be one of Adelaide's best and hidden F&C shops. Walk an extra block away from the beach and hop, skip and jump your way back to enjoy fish you'll think was freshly caught from the sea that day.

An award winning seafood restaurant on popular Hutt Street, Louca's shows you the fish filleted and prepped to go sitting next to the bar, focussing on fresh produce with bare flavours letting the seafood sing. A small establishment it's best to book ahead unless you want to sit outside or come in early. Staff are attentive, helpful and chatty and the wine list is excellent with a decent beer selection. Louca's isn't too pricey compared to other eateries and the platters are decadent. The seafood here isn't fancy, its just great produce cooked simply in a nice setting. Good for a few mates who want to do something fancier than fish and chips at the pup or from the takeaway.

There are some imported barra's and other fish on the menu but I'd stick with what you know is spectacular in your own back yard. What was nice though is that you could go from a simple "fish and chips" up to a grilled atlantic salmon or seafood platter for 2 with oysters etc. We dined on prawns, salt and pepper squid, mussels and kingfish. The prawns were a bit tough but had a nice charcoal grilled flavour and the salt and pepper squid came in huge slices that were very well seasoned and succulent. The highlight of the menu was the tomato broth mussels. A huge pot came out and we proceeded to suck all the juices and meat from each well cooked shell. All meals were perfect for sharing and it was all complemented well by a simple SA wine list. The service was nice, but a little busy at the time and overall we were impressed with the cost of our meal for the quality of the dishes - good seafood ain't cheap people! On a side note, I don't quite understand why all seafood restaurants look the same - white tiles, white tables, white kitchen/bar? As Neale Whittaker from The Block would put it - "it feels 90s and dated." I look forward to the day when someone in Adelaide does it a little differently.
