On the north west corner of Bloor Street W and St. George is the Jackman Humanties Building previously named the Medical Arts Building.
This is an old office building and although it's older, not as tall as say almost all the other office towers in the city it has character and architectural style. If I had to guess the building is probably from the mid to late 30's era that or they've done a job of recreating this. Being as there as always movies being filmed in the city I could definitely see them using this building as a era type setting if they had to.
The lobby is stark yet classy... open yet not empty. The style if I had to choose one would be art deco sort of old school South Beach or Midtown Manhattan like the styles of the Empire State building or the Chrysler building. Being in this lobby makes me feel like I'm watching Marvel's Agent Carter because it feels of that era. There are 4 plush chairs, 2 on each side of the entrance facing the elevators with very dim and ambiance type lighting.
As for the styles of the floors theres a U shape type hallway. Imagine the elevator being Union Station and the office hallways being the Yonge and Spadina lines with the offices as stations. You know a building is of an older era when you see mail slots by the elevator that go the vertical height of the building with see through drop slots by the elevators.
So this building is now primarily occupied by the University of Toronto and they apparently own the property too. The directory mostly contains listings for the department of Philosophy and department of English. While the building is almost all U of T it isn't entirely. There is a medical office I visit here but they told me they got the boot and they have to be out by the end of this year I believe so that office will have to move out.
This building is a great location being that it is right across the street from St. George subway station and on a nice live stretch of Bloor street right between the Annex and Yorkville. read more
