For my 900th Yelp review I thought it should be something special. Historic Dodgertown is something special. I stayed the night in Historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach, FL on 4/22/2015. It was my 1st time there. It's unlike anyplace else that I've ever stayed. From 1948 to 2006, the Dodgers played their spring training games here. That means that the Dodgers were playing here even prior to moving to Los Angeles. Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale and the list goes on and on of the baseball legends who played here. I stayed in Suite #134, the Carl Erskine room. Carl Erskine had a MLB record of 122-78 and pitched two no-hitters (in 1952 and 1956). My room cost $153.04 plus a tax of $10.43 for a total of $163.47. It was big and spacious and had one of the largest walk-in closets that I've ever seen. The great thing is that by staying here you are close to Holman Stadium and the other baseball fields. While I was there I got to see some games by high schools from New England. I also got a free breakfast in the Club House. Ed, Louise and everyone else at Historic Dodgertown was extremely friendly and helpful. Not just Dodger fans should come here but all fans of baseball, even Giant fans (well maybe not Giant fans). Plus, I took many photos.

Historic Dodgertowm is a sporting venue for baseball and softball. This was my son's second event with Baseball Factory our First at Dodgertown. The grounds were plush with real soil and grass "Beautifully maintained" all the boys competing had to stay several nights on the campus. The staff and grounds keepers were professional and assisted when the children were in need.

This has to be 1 of the worst rooms I've stayed in.. room 181.1st the door was so hard to open I had to hit it hard with my shoulder to open..as soon as you walk in you notice a funky mildew smell ..I noticed a second door so I opened it..then the door would not close I had to unscrew the door plate so the door would close...2nd the a/c leaks inside the room.the carpet was soaking wet..this must be an ungoing problem b/c the carpet pad was removed under the carpet....the blankets seem to be from the 60's a mustard gold color...we came with a bus full of family and everyone said there rooms had issues......also we needed a ticket for breakfast so I give the lady at the counter my ticket.grab my food then sit and go back for a drink the lady yells where's your ticket..there where only 7 people in the restaurant at 615 am how hard is it to keep track of who gave a ticket

A beautiful field but sorry to hear that its no longer Dodgers training grounds since about 2010. Heard the Dodgers moved training to Arizona.

So much so, he is enrolled in all of their summer programs. Hidden along Old Dixie Highway in Vero Beach, you could easily pass the place if you're not paying attention. But once inside, you'll quickly learn why The Field House is a premier indoor baseball and softball - or more appropriately stated - a sports specific type facility. A fully equipped facility, they offer cardio equipment like treadmills and bike, a fully turfed training area with lots of running space, and several indoor batting cages with a hitting and pitching area. From the outside this place looks deceptive, but they've used every square inch of space inside. Baseball for the boys and softball for the girls with Coach Holly. My daughter Kate was into softball in Fort Lauderdale and is interested in starting the program. The Field House even has a speed and agility program for those wanting to take their game to the next level. Personal training is a plus, but how does an older guy like me ask someone much younger to train them? Any ideas? Clean facilities - including a well-stocked bathroom. Energy bars and similar food items available if you've forgotten yours at home. Parking out front and to the side, just pay attention as this place is easy to miss as you travel north or south on Old Dixie Highway. William E. Lewis Jr. Vero Beach, Florida

You'll find Vero Beach before it was condos and brunch. Railroad maps that explain how the coast was built, citrus groves and train lines in miniature, WWII Naval Air Station artifacts that don't sugarcoat the cost of training, and Dodgers history that proves this town once mattered on a national stage. The class photos alone feel like flipping through the town's original family album. No flash, no gimmicks. Just well-preserved stories, artifacts, and context. If you care even a little about how this place became what it is, this is worth your time.

The Halstrom House was built in 1909 by Swedish immigrant Axel Hallstrom, who farmed pineapples on this farmstead. The house is a museum and the surrounding 100 acres is being restored as a conservation area. The Historical Society also owns the Vero Beach Railroad Station & Exhibit Center. In 1984 they purchased the 1903 railroad station from the Florida East Coast railway for $1, moved it, and embarked on their first restoration project. There are only 8 of Henry Flaglers railway depots left in existence. There is one in Sawfish park in Jupiter and another one in the St. Lucie County Regional History Center in Fort Pierce. The stations are easy to spot because of their bright yellow color. The Vero Beach Railroad Station and grounds opened in 1987 and serves as the office of the Indian River County Historical Society and as the Exhibit Center. The Vero Beach Railroad Station was the first building in Indian River County to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places in January of 1987. The Historical Society hosts events throughout the year including movie nights, high tea, ghost hunts, and a Swedish Christmas at the Halstrom House. I recently caught up with them at the Tangelo House in Vero Beach where they were running a tour of the historic 1920's Tangelo apartments that were recently restored. They gave me a great map of the different historical sites in Indian River County. Staffed by volunteers I appreciate everything they are doing to keep history alive for future generations.
