Then all of a sudden you realize what you're looking at! My photos are from April 14, 2016. It was a beautiful Spring Day. I am enjoying reminiciing about today during the Arctic Blast!

The sculpture is a 30 foot tall swimming pool, taken out of its normal context and displayed in its side with a diving board built in at the top. One of my favorite elements are the working lights on the inside left and right of the pool sculpture. Being that it's out of context - a recreational object in the middle of a commercial center - it creates a sense of longing and desire for recreation over industry and gives you an off-kilter feeling (why am I going to work when I could be swimming!). Overall a great piece of colorful public art at placed I a great spot for the perfect season. The piece is on display from April 13th though June 3rd, 2016. Catch it while you can!

Jersey City wouldn't be the same without this place. I go to their film series whenever possible to…read moresee classics, usually on authentic 35mm prints, on what is honestly one of the biggest and best screens in the New York City area. It's also a beautiful theater, with so much history. The ticket and food pricing can't be beat either. I don't get to too many of the other community events, but I know they periodically host book talks and concerts and other such things. My only real problem is that they don't do the films often enough, but I know they have limitations while it is still being restored and everything else. To offer a constructive criticism also, I feel they could do more to advertise some of them - if nothing else, the marque that often announces "classic films this weekend" could be put to better use. Why not tell all the people coming off the PATH train what the movies ARE? I've seen some huge crowds for movies like Jurassic Park and Goodfellas, but you just know they could have drawn even more people in by putting those titles up there. And one of the great things about seeing movies at the Loews is seeing them with a big audience, in that enormous theater. But anyway, this place is a treasure and I hope the pressure from some parts of the city to turn it into a generic amphitheater doesn't come to anything. It's maybe my favorite thing in Jersey City.
