If you have never been to Jack The Dipper you should stop in and get a warm, made to order waffle cone. You can choose between vanilla and chocolate. Both are delicious, but vanilla is my favorite. From the moment you walk in the door the scent of the waffle cones fill the air. They serve Hershey's ice cream, which is also delicious. I have been visiting Jack The Dipper since they were in the river. That was my favorite location, however it is about the friendliness of the staff and the taste of the waffle cone and ice cream that makes this a favorite stop when we are in town. I made sure over the years to introduce my children and grandchildren to Jack The Dipper making it a family tradition stop when we are home for vacation. read more

Just incredible. I don't think I've ever been served this much ice cream before in my entire life. I got two scoops in a warm waffle cone. It was practically a whole pint of ice cream. They also have chocolate cones (chocolate in the batter)! I definitely needed a nap to sleep off the sugar coma after this visit, but it sure was tasty and the warm waffle cone is a really nice touch. read more

Doesn't look like much from the outside, just another storefront in a small plaza, BUT do yourself a favor and go in! It's magical and smells amazing! They make all their waffles for cones and bowls to order, either chocolate or vanilla! They have about 30 flavors to choose from, and you can mix and match as you chose. I am not sure what I expected, maybe I thought all of the ice cream would some how be dipped in chocolate based off the name but I was surprised by Jack the Dipper. The shop is very unassuming; it is on a corner of a few other shops, it's kinda plain inside and it's tubs of ice cream. However Jack the Dipper has a game changer on their hands..... fresh made warm waffle cones!!! The waffle cone can come in a few different flavors and they make them for you right on the spot! They do have a variety of flavors and several looked interesting to me so lucky they let you sample. I went with Butter Pecan in a Cinnamon waffle cone, it was delicious! I am giving this place four stars because while the ice cream and waffle cone were amazing the customer service was basically nonexistent. The staff did not seem like they wanted to be there and carried on a conversation while we were there so it felt like we were interrupting if we asked anything. I have a feeling this was an off day and maybe something was going on so I didn't let it impact my review too much and I definitely wouldn't let it keep anyone from trying this place out. I will be back and if I am right and it was an off day I will update my review. All in all did you even go to Sylva if you didn't get a warm waffle cone from Jack the Dipper? Overall the ice cream was really good. It was soft and the flavor was great. The service... not so great. The young woman working there was so incredibly rude, it made us feel like we were a bother & we didn't order anything crazy, very straight forward. She didn't greet us at all, was very rude in our ordering process. I understand if you're having a bad day but you work customer service, you can be somewhat polite. Im not asking you to make conversation with me and go all out but you don't need to be rude. We were there evening of 11/13/25. Heading into Western Carolina University it was hot and I thought that ice cream will pep me up. There was Jack the Dipper. A regular ice cream place with lots and lots of children and parents. The line was long but interesting. I am convinced that children order ice cream by color. Such a variety of hues and Jack specializes in freshly made waffle cones, so here were child after child with a waffle cone filled with brightly colored ice creams that were bigger than their heads. Interesting to watch and listen as these youngsters had to negotiate the questions as to do you want sprinkles? OK. Chocolate or rainbow. Big hesitation, brains cooking, but ultimately rainbow won out. I ordered a medium cup, no cone, of coconut and salted caramel with chocolate chunks scoops. Yes, almost the size of my head. Enjoyed watching the families and the superb crew of, am guessing college women, being so nice, cordial and helpful. And they were moving every minute with making waffle cones, scooping serving, offering tastes, sprinkling sprinkles and moving the crowd along. Great experience. Stopped here on Father's Day and there was quite the crowd. I felt terrible for the one worker who had to make the cones, scoop, and check out customers. I hope it isn't always this slow. A thing to know about this place is you can pick your size of cup but also size of scoop. Never had that before at an Ice shop. On our way home we stopped by Jack the Dipper. Boy was I glad I made the stop. My partner ordered the sugar free butter pecan. It was fresh, creamy with plenty of nuts. The small was a great size. My brother ordered a waffle cone with butter pecan. The smell of the fresh waffle cooking was overwhelming. I yelled stop stop to the server as she was preparing my ice cream cup. I told her that Changed my mind--that I also wanted a waffle cone.... Vanilla, chocolate or cinnamon she asked..... oh boy, decisions decisions. I said vanilla. It was warm and chewy and my cookies and cream ice cream was awesome. The ice cream started to melt as I was munching on the waffle cone. In Sylva to visit the kids park, on vacation, we decided it was ice cream time. As I passed, I saw the store and figured 'small town, local ice cream....must try'. My wife and I split a medium. In a cup. It was pretty large, but the ice cream is nothing special. It's shipped in. The kids had ice cream, but in a fresh made cone......that's where the wifey and I made a mistake...that's the star of the show.
