I had them do an oil change on my 1973 Mercury Cougar and was told I needed an oil pan because the existing pan was rusty and leaking, they found one online for over $600.00 so I found my own from West Coast Classic Cougar for $ 85.00. was charged $884.83 to replace a part that had at most 10 bolts to swap out. It was a simple swap nothing from the suspension needed to be removed, so I am perplexed about the inflated labor cost. I would strongly advise anyone with a classic vehicle to avoid this shop at all "cost" I received a call from Steve explaing the high labor cost to do the oil-pan swap and in the beginning he did inform me that his labor cost books did not go back that far for a 53 year old vehicle so in all fairness I googled the process of replacing said oil-pan and found out that the motor did need to be raised to allow room to make the swap. Steve did explain this to me but when I said that was his opinion boy did his demeanor change and as others have commented he did get rude. so I am amending my review to be fair to the shop; but I still would not recomend this shop for classic car repair. It is sad that it is very difficult to find a reputable repair shop in Springfield for classic cars. read more

I do much of my own work on my vehicles, but have used Jack Stoldt for years. The guy you talk to on the phone, Steve had always been rude and condescending (know it all), but I figured it was just his personality and let it go. I have sent many many family and friends to Jack Stoldt including most recently my mother in law. I always gave them heads up that Steve is rude, but they do decent work and are straight forward on repairs. Today I called for an estimate on a major repair and requested they use a Honda OEM Aisin part for the repair. Steve wrongly told me that asin is not the oem. A simple google search or the smallest surface level research would tell you that Aisin makes Honda OEM parts. Steve's ego wouldn't let him drop it. I decided to let him believe whatever he wants and schedule the repair. After scheduling I asked Steve about a warranty on the work. Rather than simply say something like 6 months or this many miles, he went off the deep end and said "I'm not doing any work for you". I confirmed with him that he was unwilling to go ahead with scheduling the work because I asked about a warranty and he said yes. It makes me sad to write this because I've recommended Jack Stoldt to so many people. I regret sending my mother in law. If he treated me this way I can't imagine how he would be toward a senior citizen. I've sent Jack Stoldt thousands of dollars in business. Today I scheduled an 1100 repair and Steve's ego cost his company many more future money from friends and family. read more

My daughter was on her way to Texas from Peoria, Il when her car broke down right outside of Springfield. We made several phone calls to repair shops and were promptly told it would be up to 3 weeks before we could get service. Made a phone call to Jack Stoldt Auto center, (it is July 3rd also). They took the time to listen to me and hear what what was going on with my daughter's car. They were very prompt to tell me to bring the car in and they would do their best to get it in Even though their schedule was full and it was the day before the holiday. They called us after they diagnosed the problem, told us what they found and how much it would cost. I felt that they were very honest and to be quite Frank, if we lived closer, we would be utilizing them for all our car care. read more

The mechanic I talked to (Steve) was very rude and was extremely condescending on the phone with me. The things they told me were wrong with my car were completely different from what it actually was. Once I told him I wouldn't be getting any repairs done due to the cost, his tone changed and he became very unprofessional. Sometimes however I don't have the time or the knowledge to fix them myself. Jack Stoldt Service is as good as it gets. Over the years I have thrown numerous mechanical issues with them and they have been able to diagnose and repair every single one without a problem from simple to complex. Only once did I have an issue with a repair where a part went bad after the initial replacement. They took care of this immediately without an further charges. Took my 2002 Focus to Stoldt's after being given a $1080 estimate from Brahler on 6th st. Long story short Stoldtz was on the same page as me. Fix my car. Make it safe. Don't do more than is necessary. But do what is necessary. $380 later it was fixed. I will not try Brahler again. I will definitely use Stoldtz again. read more

I called this service center yesterday morning (due to the reviews and being so close to my house ) to try to get a last minute appointment as soon as possible and they were actually able to fit my car in yesterday! They called me to let me know the things that needed to be done as soon as possible and the things that could wait to be done at a later date along with the amount for all services. I was able to cancel my appointment with the Honda dealership that couldn't get me in until next week. Will definitely be my go-to place for all auto services needed. read more

I recently took my truck here for a simple alignment. After a couple hours, I received a call from them stating that they could not complete the alignment because my ball-joints were "dangerously loose," and that it would be $600+ to fix. Now, my father has been working on cars as a hobby for 30+ years (he doesn't have the equipment to do an alignment, which is why I had to take my truck somewhere else), so I told them not to do the work and we would do it and bring it back. When we looked at the truck in my dad's shop, we could find no evidence whatsoever of any problems with the ball-joints. So, just to be sure, I took my truck to a different mechanic and they did the alignment with no problem. Maybe they were just having an off day, but I won't ever be taking another vehicle back to them. read more

Moreover, I can tell you, from first-hand experience, they stand by their work and will go above and beyond to ensure that your repairs are done correctly and fairly. At first blush, their business is to fix your car, but they do more than that. They provide integrity and a sense of security that can't be bought or sold. I would not recommend Jack Stoldt Auto Service Center. They charged me $50 to tell me they couldn't fix the problem with my car's engine and I needed to try the dealership instead. My car has the exact same problems it had before I went there. read more
