We were looking for a small amount of upholstery fabric to recover a chair. There are few shopping options in our area, so we took a trip into the city to Fabric Row. Jack B Fabrics was the first store we went in. The selection was fabulous! We found 5 that we liked then had a tough decision to make! The prices were very reasonable. They employees were friendly and helpful. It was a very pleasant experience. read more

Sherry the owner and staff all very personable. I usually find what I need every time I go visit for every job I do.

Fantastic fabric store ranging from fashion fabrics to home decor fabrics. The service is top notch -friendly neighborhood vibe going and I don't live near by. Prices were better than most stores even on high end material. My favorite store on fabric row! read more

Nice selection of fabrics. Head to the back of the store to see fabulous upholstery and curtain fabric. Stunning.

For those who haven't heard, there was a tragic, terrible fire on April 6, 2013, started in the basement of the original store, destroyed the building and also took the life of a Philadelphia Firefighter. How ever does one go on from that? With determination. Jack B's has reopened in a storefront directly across the street from the location of the fire - now an empty hole on the corner of 4 & Fitzwater with bricks at the bottom. When I talked with one of the family, they said "We had to. That man lost his life for us. We must go on. For him. For us. Because this is what we do." The new store is brightly lit and freshly painted. Bolts of fabrics lay on their sides with samples cut and streaming from the ends. There are also sections with rolls of fabric packed in on rollers. The staff, mostly family, are super knowledgable, friendly, and honest. They will happily snip a section of a fabric for you to take home 'to see how it looks'. They do some end-bolts but most of what they have can be re-ordered. Their prices are reasonable for what they offer - quality fabrics. This is not junky Jo Mar stuff. They offer everything from upholstery to drapery to clothing, but not really costumey stuff. Go, even to say thank you to this Fabric Row Institution for being there, for not closing up when it would have been so easy to, for honoring their city, the man who lost his life, their family tradition. Also to pick up some absolutely beautiful, high quality fabrics from people who know their stuff. read more

I found Jack B to be very helpful while my mom was preparing to make my wedding dress. I was not very keen on silk and thought I wanted satin but their staff assured me the peau de soie silk would look great. My mom finished making my retro style dress, and I just fell in love with the feel of the fabric and the way it moved. It wound up working perfectly with my petticoat and my shoes, and ended up being my favorite part of my wedding experience. We also got the applique for my sash here, and I'm told by my mom they were very helpful with recommending ways to tack it onto the ribbon she bought. The sash looked store-bought and beautiful. So glad we went with their recommendations! read more

Excellent customer service! I've been here twice since COVID-19 (my first and only visits) and they've been excellent. Great selection, fair pricing, quick, safe and friendly service. I travel from DE to get fabric in Philly and it's always worth the trip. I'll be back! I enjoy African prints and they have a wide selection, including some very unique mud cloths. read more

This is my go-to place on fabric row over many years. The selection of fabrics is excellent and perhaps even more important is the assistance and advice I get regarding any questions or concerns I have about about my projects, the latest being a simple chair that I am reupholstering myself. Consistently a great place. read more

They have a wide selection of great fabrics...blends, cottons on up to high end silks. All the staff is super helpful & go above & beyond to please. Highly recommend. read more

Save yourself a lot of time and make this your first stop if you are looking for fabric on Fabric Row. It will probably end up being your only stop. My mother is redoing her kitchen and was on the look out for some bolts of fabric for curtains and a window bench. We stopped by no less than half a dozen places and this place was by far the best. They had the widest array of fabrics and the friendliest staff, who were eager to help you out but not overly trying to sell you anything. The lovely saleswomen was very knowledgable and happily handed over five samples of fabric for my mother to take home and mull over. While the aisles are narrow and there are literally thousands of fabrics in the store, it was easily maneuverable and well organized. (Every other fabric store we went into was a lawsuit waiting to happen.) Additionally, this place had a nice selection of more modern prints and colors. It wasn't stock full of stuffy, crazy 80s throwback patterns and pastel grandma fabrics. I especially loved the section full of chevrons and itacate prints in pretty pretty colors. I couldn't help but leave with a couple yards of the aforementioned chevron in a light blue and cream to make some pillows for my own place. I highly recommend! read more

I couldn't say enough positive things about this store to even do it close to justice. The fabric selection is spectacular, especially for customers looking to create unique, beautiful and top quality prom, bridal and formalwear. The staff is friendly, knowledgable and extremely helpful. They are full of amazing advice, wisdom and helpful tricks to make your project special. Plus, the prices are incredibly reasonable. As a fashion design student, I've been to many different fabric stores looking for just the right fabrics and the best experience, and this store really stood out to me. I had an absolutely wonderful experience at this store. If you're looking for a genuine, professional experience, this is the place to go. read more

Best fabrics on the row, and by far the friendliest staff. Go here first, as you'll end up buying here. (there are some stores on fabric row that are intimidating and smell musty - this is the exact opposite). They don't do "accessories" (thread, buttons etc.) - so cross the street to PA Fabric Outlet for that. read more

Friendly and very helpful staff. Great selection of fabrics. Recommend and will go back.

Very kind and knowledgable people. The woman who helped me find the knits might be one of the owners. She was great and advised me on the kinds of knits she had and showed me a few fabrics that would work for my project. Soooo nice. And her daughter cut my fabric. A nice family business. Everyone was great even the other customers! Fabric selection is awesome. Prices were reasonable. I couldn't decide so I bought both knits I was looking at for a t-shirt project. Will definitely be back for more fabric and advice on fabric selection. If you're a new sewer, I recommend this place. Things are organized and they have thread, zippers, and buttons too. (And interfacing) They're not intimidating at all for a newbie. read more

Their store has re-opened in the old location. It is well organized and cleaned up. The staff is very friendly and helpful as always. I wish they had more high-end upholstery fabrics. However, the prices on the fabrics they do have is pretty outstanding. read more

Definitely wont stop in here again. I was looking for another store that sales Fabric and I stopped in here on a whim. There was 1 nice lady that greeted me when I walked. The staff on the other hand...I brought in a bolt of fabric that was outside on a sales rack and I did not see a register. There was a group of employees all huddled up talking and I approached them to ask where do I pay and they just all looked at me like I had booger on my for head. I was like ummm did I say something wrong? There was an older man kind of cantankerous, that cut the fabric for me. I didn't feel welcome at all. read more

We were in search of fabric to recover our dining room chairs. We were welcomed when we entered the store. The selection was great and the staff provided a nice balance of autonomy and customer support. Not only did they help us with the fabric but also helped us find a place for the foam for the chairs. It could not been a better experience. Thanks to David and everyone at Jack B. Fabrics read more

The staff was unbelievably nice to me when I started putting aside things to buy. When I decided against a defective and already cut by another customer (not by me!) piece of fabric that they were charging full price (the dye was not consistent) the two men helping me became extremely rude when I did not want it. They told me that they had been "too nice to me" the whole time because I "all of a sudden" did not want to buy something. The one woman working in the shop was extremely helpful and gladly returned the amount already charged on my card. And just a reminder clarification: I did not have this fabric cut specifically for me - it was already a cut piece- and they were so mean to me because i didn't want to spend $30 dollars on it "all of a sudden." I walked out of there shaking and very upset by the terrible customer service by these men. They are pushy and rude and I will not be returning here. There are far more kinder sales representatives along fabric row that I would rather give my money to. read more

I don't understand why you put a website up when you ignore emails or requests???? Looking for fabric, got an answer, then ready to order and emails never answered. It's a shame! read more

This store has friendly and helpful employee. Check them out the next time you are in Philadelphia.

So, I'm on a quest for real silk fabric. They have a nice selection, but not the color I wanted. The young woman who helped me--Jamie? Jean?--knew her stuff and seemed genuinely happy to be of service. She offered to order what I needed because their stock of the specific color I wanted was down to its last 2 yards--not enough for my project. Another place I will be happy to patronize as my sewing skills develop. read more
