Well I went back to my old dentist and a decade later the tooth is still healthy. He tries to make up for his cowboy dentistry with heated towels and other superficial luxuries. I'll stick with competence and judgement instead any day. I don't know if he doesn't know what he's talking about, or is just trying to pad his bill by butchering his patients with unnecessary procedures, but I'd watch a youtube video and do my dentistry myself before I'd go back to this guy.

I called to ensure my insurance was in-network and my upcoming appointment would be covered (as it switched with the new year) and it was confirmed over the phone. I offered to provide my card number over the phone for an extra confirmation and was told it was not needed, they accepted the insurance and it was in-network. I arrive to my appointment, work was completed then AFTER work is done, the front desk tells me that they don't accept the insurance, it is out of network and they didn't know that until seeing the card (which I provided before heading into the room for my filling) and that my total due TODAY was just under $200. I explained that I specifically called for confirmation ahead of time and they told me there was nothing they could do until they saw the card, and my total balance was due because I was out of network. Without any other choice, I paid the charge and followed up with the office to let them know about my frustrating experience - Jessi was very responsive which is appreciated but not very helpful. I was then told that it was a patient responsibility to also call the insurance company to confirm, which I is totally reasonable, but I didn't think it was necessary since the office had ALREADY confirmed it was accepted, and they never mentioned 'hey you might also want to call insurance to double-check'. Understood the work was completed I paid for it, but this is trickery and bad business practice. Not how you want to be treated as a patient. It would have gone a long way if the office accepted their behavior as not ideal, and made amends to meet in the middle somewhere, but nope just said it was my responsibility. This was the final straw for me. I also had been rescheduled from a 2022 appointment that had been in the books for months and pushed into 2023 since the office was closed, had to ask more than once for follow up on quoted services, office is dingy, communication is poor.

I'm 22 years old, and I have been to 5 or 6 dentists in my life before coming to Dr. Gavelis for…read morethe first time today. I had a huge cavity pop up out of no where, and was able to schedule an appointment with him the same day. I went in, and was immediately put at ease by his and his staff's professionalism. Dr. Gavelis explained to me, what he was doing, stream of conscious style, and why, which put into perspective the factors which caused the cavities. Additionally, one thing I hate is having Novocaine injected into me, because more often than not dentists rush shoving the needle into you, or use to much (multiple shots). He was able to hit two teeth with Novocaine in one injection, and unlike other dentists, I wasnt numb for HOURS afterwards, clearly Dr. Gavelis' is well practiced and experienced. I usually dread going to the dentist, but I can honestly say that I could go to a dentist appointment with Dr. Gavelis and my anxiety level would be much less than with any other dentist. Additionally, according to my mother, he has the most modern equipment in the area. I was also impressed with the time and attention he dedicated to treating my dental issues. It took him about 1.5 times as long to do a filling as any other dentist I have had, but it was clear that he was much more patient, and careful then others. Its pretty clear that you get what you pay for as far as dentists on the north shore are concerned. Dr. Gavelis made sure that my cavity was completely free of decay before filling the cavity by using a dye to highlight miniscule amounts of decay. As a result, this filling will last much longer than other's because Dr. Gavelis made sure he removed of all the decay, which otherwise, even if a minsicule amount was left, would come back, erode my tooth, loosen the cavity and require it to be refilled, costing more.
