AVOID AT ALL COSTS, ROGUE TRADERS
This is the first time i have ever had the misfortune to deal with a company thats customer service is so poor i feel for the benefit of others i should complete a fair and accurate review.
When they are selling to you their service is spot on but if you have a problem their after service is shocking. This review relates to them selling me a car that was advertised as a genuine 38,000 miles but turned out to be a pile of rubbish brought from an auction and covered in excess of 107500 miles and had a few faults from the start. Hence me rejecting this vehicle within 2 hrs of it being delivered. After a little battle they took back the vehicle but have also decided to keep my money that i paid to them in the tune of £3350.00. Below is a full breakdown of events so far to date.
On 15/10/12 i saw advertised online a vehicle that matched my needs perfectly. It was a renault grand scenic advertised with 38000 miles on on YN54 VDV
I phoned them up and spoke to a friendly and polite salesman Lee. I asked a couple of questions about the car asked about service history and asked if the 38000 miles stated in the advertisement was correct as it was much lower than others i had looked at around the same age. I was told the mileage was WARRANTED and CORRECT. I also agreed a PX deal for my current vehicle.
This was all done over the phone, i had not seen the vehicle but if it was as described, that was fine with me as i have test driven a few and know what to expect of it. So i paid up over £3300 on my credit card and had it delivered the following day. (so glad i paid on credit card as well, read on to find out why!!!)
On 16/10/12 vehicle delivered, old car taken, good quick service i first thought.
I go inside the house after admiring my new vehicle to eximine the paperwork pack sent with it. No old MOT's, and NO SERVICE HISTORY BOOK in the pack. Alarm bells now sounding.
I return to the car and have a close look at it. I notice the inside is very worn for 38000m so i opened the bonnet for a look around the engine bay. This area was very dirty and covered in oil like there had been a major oil leak at some time. Also the vehicle would not start by depressing the clutch and pressing the start button as it should (we have a megane also that starts fine this way). I could only start it by pressing the brake and start button. Probably just a faulty sensor on the clutch, but this should have been fixed before the sale to me as if the sensor on the brake goes wrong too thats it, no secondry method of being able to start it. Would be call the AA time.
I phoned Lee with my concerns mainly the fact i do not believe the mileage to be genuine. He told me to check it on the VOSA website for free which will show mileage on all MOT's.
I did this and found out that by 2010 it had 69500 miles then the next MOT showed 14000m and so on. The 2004/5 Renault Grand Scenics had a fault with the digital dashboard display and many failed causing a new one needed to be put in by Renault which reset the clock back to zero miles.
Paperwork would have been given to the owner by Renault detailing the mileage before the clock change. On this occasion however it was conviently lost/missing. JPH did not clock the car themselves as it was clearly done before they took ownership, but i do believe JPH knew the 38000 mile shown and advertised by themselves was incorrect as if they completed the basic checks that a dealer is obliged to, then they would have found out. Also if a person like myself not in the motor trade suspected it had done many more miles than advertised by looking at it, then they, in the motor trade must have known!!!!
All in all 69500 + 38000 = 107500 miles. A lot more than a 38000 mile car that i paid for.
I contacted JPH again informed Lee and demanded this vehicle be collected, my PX vehicle returned and money refunded. I was told i could have a full refund but for now go and sleep on it and call back tomorrow
I called back on the 17/10/12 and was told lee was on a day off and call again tomorrow. i also emailed JPH stating i did not wish to keep this vehicle. In response to my email a JPH employee named Michael called me and tried his best to get me to keep the car by offering me an extended 3 yr warrenty and £800.00 back. I declined this offer as i thought if they are prepared to sell me a high mileage car as a genuine 38000 mile one, they are not likely to honor their warrenty when things go wrong.
Reading the other review here, i may have been right to asume this too!!!
On the 18/10/12 JPH persuaded me to consider letting them find a replacement vehicle for me as the boss had changed his mind about the full no questions refund first offered as he wished to keep my PX vehicle. I reluctently agreed to this as i was not fully aware of my rights at this point and just wanted to make sure i was not at a complete loss to these rogues. This was a mistake as it probably helped delay things and i read more
