Great venue for a show. First time here. Acoustics were great and not a bad seat in the house!…read more There is a bar with beer, wine, and a few snacks on each floor -- note you cannot bring food or drink into the theater, so give yourself enough time before the show Seats were comfortable and there was parking in the area. I would return, despite the 1.5 hr drive (no traffic)!

The John Batiste/Jack DeJohnette show was very difficult to see from the 5th row. Batiste was…read morehidden behind the piano and DeJohnette was towards the wings and hidden behind a gong. After the show we wandered around trying different rows and seats. IMHO there are zero seats with good sight lines. It's odd and we were very surprised. Was it designed this way? Yes and no. When a theatre orders new seats they tell the manufacturer how many seats they need in the hall, sometimes how many seats per row. Either way the seat manufacturer figures out what assortment of chair widths will work. Yes, that's right. All chairs in a row may not be the same size. If you've ever said "hmm I thought these chairs were wider" you got one of the small chairs. This is part of why people buy subscriptions - year to year they keep the same seat, one that isn't small. Sadly as much as I loved visiting Ulster I will not go back to see a show at this venue. NOTE: The UPAC website has outdated recommendations for restaurants. Several restaurants had closed permanently or were not open for dinner. Definitely need to call yourself and confirm hours and availability for the evening you intend to be there.

What an unexpected gem!…read more We had planned on seeing The Nutcracker up in Albany, but I happened to hear on our local classical radio station that it was going to be in Tannersville.....wait, what?! Sure enough, upon googling, there it was! I promptly bought tickets. The outside makes it stand out, the inside was kind of open and had a couple posters advertising upcoming shows, then you go through this small door into a small theater - there isn't a bad seat in the house!! Not sure if they were trying to compensate for it being pretty cold outside, but it was very warm in the theater (and I'm ALWAYS cold!) I thought my husband was going to melt! There isn't a private parking lot that I could find, and being that it's on the main drag in Tannersville, you can park on the street or the small lots. We didn't have trouble parking, but if ski season was in full swing - 7 on a Friday night?! I imagine it would be more difficult. I will definitely be checking back for more shows and events.

Attended the jazz center's Vibes of Venezuela, Friday…read more There is ample parking near the entrance. Ushers to help you find your seat. Dress code is casual. There were short biographies about the musicians, history of Venezuela before the concert started, mentioning the crisis in Venezuela with requests to help financially. There is an elevator to the upper level, it's not a true balcony in the sense of an overhang above the main floor. Although, the staircase is a gentle climb to the second floor. There's a small concession stand there with soft drinks, wine, snacks, and sandwiches available. The concert had no intermission, it was only about an hour and a half long; no real need for one. I don't remember the individual names of the musicians. It was lively and entertaining; with musicians that have honed their craft. The Quatro (a type of guitar) the player was exceptional; there was no hissing from the strings unless he wanted the effect to enhance a particular song. I didn't think the band leader could get so many sounds from basically a wooden box. The guest trumpeter has the talent to play triple tongue. Something that takes a lot of practice. Overall, a very enjoyable evening. The only Con is - the seats are folding chairs. Not very comfortable.
