We then checked out a Super 8 across the street that was listed as pet-friendly but was so scary and poorly lit from the outside that it gave Bates Motel vibes. Cue Sleep Inn Colby, whose upcharge for our two dogs was a reasonable $20. There's abundant parking in a well-lit lot, the lobby is nice, the clerk was pleasant (and gave us a first-floor room at the end of a long, quiet hall), the wifi worked, the bed was blessedly comfortable, the room was clean, the luggage carts worked, the breakfast was solid, and I got a long and restful night's sleep prior to another 700+ miles of driving the following day. Chain hotels are usually poorly reviewed on Yelp, often for things beyond the hotel's control, because people have different travelling styles, schedules, and habits, and the other guests often end up annoying you. So maybe I'm grading up a little here, but I can say that I would certainly stay here again.

The hotel is right off of I-70; it's clean and well-maintained; conveneient to a number of restaurants and reasonably priced. The staff is friendly and helpful; the beds are comfortbable and we got an excellent night's sleep. And the complimentary HOT breakfast was very good.

I have stayed here twice now for business and its a nice spot. Well maintained, easy check in,…read morefriendly staff, decent breakfast and really clean/comfortable rooms. The beds are excellent with tons of pillows. Air and heat work well, bathrooms are set up perfectly. Just all around solid HIE location. They have a great coffee machine at the breakfast area that grinds and makes a cup fresh and its so good that I have not even been tempted to head out to a fancy coffee spot for a better cup. Its located off a side road from the "main drag" in town so i feel like that makes it both convenient location but also more quiet than if it was on a main road. Close to plenty of restaurants and walmart/good will, ect for a bit of shopping if needed. Pro tip - head across the street to Coppermill for an excellent dinner/drinks and have a quick 1 minute drive home.

The person who answered the phone late that night when I realized that I must have left it behind was incredibly helpful. She called me back and let me know she had found the item, had put it on her manager's desk, and that her manager would contact me the next day with instructions what I needed to do for her to mail it to me. The manager called the next day and then once I got my mailing instructions to her, packed up the item and then took it on her own time to mail it to me. I really appreciated them and I was so glad to get the gift from my husband back!

I am not kidding you when I say this is my favorite B&B in the country -- the best I've ever been…read moreto! Once upon a time I was in graduate school and doing a lot of work out in western Nebraska -- Imperial especially. On my first trip out, following the habits of my research group, I went to make a reservation at the motel in town, which was full and whose staff recommended I check the Balcony House. I am eternally grateful. My entire research group's enthusiasm for traveling to Imperial improved after this event. Jim and Linda are fantastic hosts. Their home is unbelievably charming and well cared for. I've stayed with them probably a half-dozen or more times (I think I've slept in every room), and each time I am in awe of their business. Fresh coffee and cookies, always. Linda is the most exceptional cook, whose meals make my mouth water thinking of them now. One time I was there, Linda had injured wrists, and Jim was in charge of breakfasts. Those were outstanding too -- though he quickly admitted that if you stayed longer than three days, you'd start getting repeats. There was one time that I was coming to Imperial and they were FULL (stupid hunting season!). I had to stay at that motel after all, even after vowing I never would. You know what Jim and Linda said? They told me to COME OVER FOR BREAKFAST anyway, even though I would be staying at the motel. They are the salt of the earth. I am so very fortunate to have gotten to know them over the years. p.s. If you're in town for a lunch, I *love* M&M's Natural Jazz. The Reubens (regular and turkey) are spectacular. If you're gluten-free, they got you covered. Imperial is a special place. I wish I still had excuses to visit regularly.

Balcony House is a little touch of home along the way west. The owners make you feel right at home and the breakfast is Great. We will always make this a stop on our way to Colorado.
