After scanning the Urbanspoon reviews of this breakfasty/brunch/sandwichy joint right across the street from the beach, I would have expected cheap prices as well. But $16 USD for a lunch bubble and squeak (tasted fine, but not traditional at all), or a burger and fries for over what I would have expected to pay, a few smoothies, and cresting well over $30 for lunch. The sun was strong in this resort time, when we hit it up on a weekday... less people, more private feel. Easy drive down from the St Kilda area. We sat outside, and there are about 3 tables available (most taken, surprisingly!). The quality of the food overall was fair, portions were about average. Price was still little surprising. But easy to find, along the few eating establishments to choose from along the same strip (did not want souvlaki, or charcoal chicken here). Staff were very friendly and attentive - but most of all Raffael, who treated us like royalty. We had a stunning meal, vegan lasagne, vegetable bowl, warm octopus on sweet potato and Genovase pizza. The food was tasty and very appealing aesthetically! After lunch long time partners completely surprised us and Len proposed to Veronica. A staff member looked over at us and I said "we have an engagement"! Within a moment, Raffael had brought over champagne and glasses. He left us and returned with a bunch of flowers from the garden, held together with a white ribbon for the bride to be. It couldn't have been more perfect. My dear friend Veronica was diagnosed with cancer less than a month ago and starts the recovery of her life tomorrow. I do not even know how to thank Raffael and staff for this genuine kindness. It's a lovely spot with a great menu and friendly service. I enjoyed sipping on a well-made mocha while waiting for my food. Many locals stopped in (a good sign) to get coffee and breakfast. I also perused the many sweet and savoury treats at the takeaway counter. There was a big selection of Aussie and Kiwi food to keep you happy. For breakfast, I dined on the Imola Eggs, which is their unique take on the Eggs Benedict. Savoury bacon sits atop english muffins with poached eggs and Hollandaise sauce. The twist is the spicy Italian marinara that adds depth and even more flavour to a classic dish. It was a joyous celebration!
