Surprisingly good Mexican spot in Paris. We stopped in near the end of the night for them, but they didn't have a problem seating/serving us. We tried all of the different t tacos on the menu (side of beans) and the chips and guac. We also ordered a couple margaritas. The margaritas you could only get blended. They weren't able to make them fresh on the rocks. I asked how we would be able to enjoy the good mezcal they have. "shots" was the reply. Ya girl doesn't do shots anymore lol. So I didn't try the mezcal. The chips and guac were good. The tacos, also good. Maybe even very good. The tortillas were quite nice. Not sure if they're made in house or not, but better than the tortillas I can find in Germany. All of the meat on the tacos were cooked well and were flavorful. I tried Itacate last week with a group of girlfriends. We originally went for margaritas and chips, but after seeing taco plates land on a couple of tables near by, we had to stay for dinner. First of all, the margaritas are terribly tasty. I mix a lot of margaritas at home, and therefore hardly order them when I'm out since they are rarely as good. These were. The glasses are small, but at 4.50 a glass, they come in at about half the price of most other mexican/tex mex places in town. For aperitif, we got an order of guacamole and an order of cocktail des camarones. The guac was chunky and delicious-served with homemade chips. The shrimp cocktail was quite sweet, almost too sweet-until we were advised that we were supposed to add hot sauce to taste. Being with some other spice addicts, we poured quite a bit in, and the dish was transformed from too sweet to absolutely delectable. We then ordered dinner. I got a trio of tacos-pork, chorizo, and beef. The chorizo, normally my favorite, was a bit salty-but the beef was scrumptious. The tacos come with an assortment of salsas-some quite spicy-others mild, to cater to both French and, well, more adventurous tastes. I really like this place. There were a couple of hiccups in service, mostly in keeping up with our never-ceasing margarita orders, but any request-including rearranging several tables to accomodate our growing number of people, was met with a smile. I cannot, personally, speak to authenticity, but there was a colombian girl sitting next to us who had lived in mexico for five years and gave the place a definitive thumbs up. As a Californian, and food lover, the absolute last thing I thought we'd eat during our first visit to Paris was Mexican food. But after stumbling upon Itacate while wandering away from the throngs of tourist Louvre in search of a bite, we rolled the Mexican dice. They offer a few outdoor tables but it was still too chilly so we headed upstairs where there's about 10 tables in 2's and 4's. The space is modern, clean and slightly upscale for a "taqueria" and it just gives off a good vibe. You walk by the open kitchen on your way through so all the wares are out on display...usually a good sign. The super nice staff are all polyglots so you can order in French, Spanish or English and they'll happily entertain anything lost in translation on the menu. We honestly had super low expectation but were impressed with the menu so we ordered the Cubano torta, tacos w/chorizo, al pastor & carnitas. First comes the salsa dish...and I've always thought you can judge a Mexican restaurant based on the quality of the salsa...and holy moly its legit!! Everything that followed was really, REALLY good. Seriously no joke good. On par with many killer joints back in CA. The MUST try is the chorizo, trust me. And had a lovely conversation with the owner/chef on our way as curiosity got the best of me and I wanted to know their story. Yup they're from Mexico. Well there you go. Mexican chef marries a Frenchman and sets up shop in Les Halles. In a sea of endless, seemingly generic cafés, this place sticks out and is def worth a try! read more

Such a great find! I live in California and this was really great Mexican food. Better than what I get at home in "authentic" Mexican restaurants. Margaritas are yummy. It was a trip highlight! Spanish and French are welcome. Thoroughly enjoyed! Cute little place that was quite busy after a long day at the Louvre. Not a very long walk. Quick Uber away. Highly recommend if you love Mexican food and will eat it in any county! Service was great. Our waiter didn't speak very good English, but I don't speak very good French. But I speak more Spanish. First of all, the server was amazing-He was from Puebla, Mexico and was very helpful and friendly. The food was great and they were able to accommodate a mid size group with kids. The carne Arachera was good but it tastes different if you are from Mexico or California. The reasons why we did not give it a 5 start was because the Horchata was not good at all. It's really hard to get Horchata wrong, but other than that it was great! Also, they have Jarritos which was dope! Lastly, the bathrooms were pretty dirty. Overall, the food was great and service was amazing. Props to the guy from Puebla who said he had only six months in Paris. The first time I lived in Paris (2013) this became an obsession thanks to my local friend, and the second time I was in Paris (2014) I lived one block over, so needless to say I was a frequent customer at Itacate. One of the owners is Mexican and the authenticity shines through in the food. The food is the epitome of "fresh but not too heavy," the half pitcher of margaritas is excellent for sharing, the chips and fresh guacamole are a must-do appetizer (and I don't even normally like guac!), and the chicken alambres in 3 tortillas are always my go-to order (when you order 3 small tortillas instead of one large one, you get to build them yourself which I prefer, as I'm very particular about ingredient distribution!) read more

To be consistent, since I gave Candelaria (another taco joint) 5 stars last week, itacate gets 4. Taste wise, itacate lacks a little bit of spice and the fact that I have to add the spices on my own makes it a little less delicious. I like it when the chefs do the work! Ordered the. Two types of pork tacos, the marinated pork is better than the shredded pork. Make sure you add the pineapple and the line they give you on the side. 5 tacos for 14 euros is a good deal actually. The mushroom taco is just mushrooms and nothing else. The margarita for 5 euros is delicious but it's too small!!! The service was excellent and lots of attention paid to us - something you can't expect from Candelaria. Itacate.... a journey back to Mexico! The restaurant from outside does not look really attractive but honestly, just get in and eat, you wont be disappointed. this is a true Mexican restaurant. I went to Mexico a few years ago and I finally found a place in Paris where the food taste exactly how it was where I was there. The quesadillas are excellent, the tacos, are done like in Mexico, the pork cooked properly like its done there... anyway, the Mexican restaurant I would now recommend to everyone who want traditional Mexican food. in term of price, it's reasonable. We end up spending 15 euros each with a drink so all good. And they have space upstairs so dont be fool by just the outside, get in and ask them. We were actually looking for Azteca (around the corner) and happened upon this place totally by accident. We were looking for some solid mexican food to cure our latent recovery from the night before and unfortunately, this place did not fit the bill. The guacamole earned this place its only additional star as the tacos and quesadillas we order were all very average (if not bland and in need of a serious upgrade in the flavor department). I came here the other day with a couple of friends. Whilst it wasn't terrible, I have definitely had better Mexican in Paris. It was a pity and I was really craving good Mexican but this just really was not up to scratch. I had the tacos which were pretty flavourless and a bean soup which also had very little taste. I was a little sceptical about this place because it sells Mexican food but has a French name (it is actually called Itacate Saveurs du Mexique) but it is near to work and we really fancied Mexican food. They have a 'formule express' which is 9.90 euros and includes one quesadilla and the choice of three tacos or an alambre (which I had previously never heard of). Everything was really very distinctly average apart from one taco - the carnitas - which was incredibly tender and succulent (even if it lacked garnish). Otherwise, the meat on my other tacos was very dry and there was little to no garnish on the tacos which is a shame. As for the quesadilla, it wasn't quite cooked enough which meant the cheese hadn't entirely melted. That being said, the salsas were really spicy which is hard to find in Paris so that is a plus (even if they did come served in a serve-yourself bowl). The service was very friendly though and I think the price is fair. However, I probably would not eat there again, especially when you could grab decent Mexican food for less from Chaak just around the corner in Les Halles. read more

As a lover of Mexican food I was in heaven when I saw the sign that read TORTAS... What!? In PARIS. I stumbled on this restaurant and fell in love. I had the Torta which tasted and put together different than any Torta I had in the states. So good, I came back the next day for lunch. The Torta, tacos and the quesadillas were great. If you're craving Mexican food, come here. The waiters are super friendly and helpful. The guacamole is huge and tastes fresh. I got the four tacos with a side of rice and beans. If you like your tacos spicy make sure to ask for the spiciest hot sauce they have. The best taco was the one with the meat and pineapples. My aunt and I were pleasantly surprised when we stumped across this place. Wanting to eat "where the locals eat" we ventured off the main Street and chose this place. The staff was very helpful in deciphering the menu (We speak English) the portions were on the smaller side but the food was very flavorful! As someone who grew up in Mexico and Los Angeles, this is by far the best tasting and most authentic Mexican food in Paris. They even have aguas frescas and tres leches cake! Searching for a good authentic restaurant in France is not an easy task. Or its a tex mex restaurant, or it's a fusion restaurant, or it's some sort of gastronomical reinterpretation or it's just bad. Here I was transported back to the cantinas of my homecountry. The food in itself if it were for Mexican standards was average. But for French standards it was excellent. If you are looking for an authentic no fuss neighbourhood taqueria from mexico in France then this is the place to be. The arrachera was tender, the sauces tasty, the guacamole was delicious and their agua de jamaica was divine. The menu is diverse and has a variety of mexican tacos and tortas. The staff was attentive and very friendly without being to pushy or intrusive. The only "bemol" is the decoration of the outside and interior but I didnt come here for the decoration I came for good Mexican food. Definitely coming back here for a taste of my homeland. read more
