The Long Version: This small grocery store in Orleans markets itself as a Pakistani, Indian and Mediterranean market. It just opened up in August 2025 where Istanbul Food Mart used to be on Des Epinettes. I didn't even know the Istanbul Food Mart closed, but my brother who lives in the area told me about it. And when I drove by I saw a sign with a picture of samosas and knew I had to check it out, lol. My mom loves samosas, so when I came to visit her (she also lives near the store) I asked her if she wanted to check out the store together, and of course she was game. They did indeed have samosas. The big regular type and the smaller ones made with phyllo pastry. The big ones were vegetarian and $1.50 each. The smaller ones were chicken and $0.75 each. We got a big one and 3 small ones. They also had Indian sweets such as Barfi, Ladoo, Jelebi, Gulab Jamun and Rasgulla, sold by the weight. I don't know all the names but we ended up getting 4 different types to try. You can see my photo. The store has lots of spices, sauces and mixes. As well as imported drinks and snacks (my favourite, lol). The store is neatly organized. There's also an area at the front with tables and chairs where you can sit to enjoy some food or drink. We had the chance to speak with Ali himself and he was very friendly and welcoming. He told us his plans to expand their menu. They will be selling shawarma. He's also thinking of items like samosa chaat. And maybe some fusion poutine like curry poutine, and likely regular poutine too, lol. I think if they expanded their menu, their eat-in area would be a great place to have a snack or meal. It's by the front, which is all windows, so feels like you're in a solarium. The space is very lovely, and surprisingly so since it's inside a grocery store, lol. I liked how Ali was very genuine. When my mom asked if they will be selling big meat samosas, he said she's the third person to ask him that, so they will likely do so in the future. When I asked him if they will be selling baked samosas, he said I'm the only person who's ever asked that and he thinks baked samosas will likely not sell. Lol. I appreciate honesty! And I get it, you need to sell what people will buy ;) (As an aside, my mom said to me, "Jennifer, people want to eat deep-fried delicious things, not baked healthy alternatives like you do!") Fair! Haha. Ali also told us when his sign at the corner advertising samosas was handwritten no one came in looking for samosas but after he got a sign with a picture of samosas on it people started coming in asking for samosas, lol. The samosas were delicious. The big vegetarian one was filled with potatoes, peas and spices. It was spicy! Spicier than most samosas I've had and I loved it. The flavour was also unique. It was more complex and interesting than other samosas I've had. The small samosas were also good, but pale in comparison to the big one in flavour. My parents enjoyed the Indian sweets. They were too sweet for my tastes, but I already knew this because most desserts are too sweet for my liking, lol. The one with a carrot halwa base was the least sweet and the most enjoyable to me. Anyway, I'm really excited to see how this store evolves. I'll be stopping by again with my mom to try their new items. It's in a little plaza so there's free parking in the shared parking lot with other businesses in the plaza. Review #157 (2025)

The Long Version: This T&T Supermarket location is in Hazeldean Mall in Kanata. It's where the Laura's Your Independent Grocer used to be. It just opened at the end of October 2024. We went the beginning of November 2024 so it was still brand spanking new. I took my parents here to check it out and see how it compares with the other location on Hunt Club. Our consensus was this Kanata location is smaller with less selection than the original location. We were happy to visit and see what it's all about, but since the Hunt Club location is closer to us, we'll continue to go to that location instead. The bakery section at this Kanata location is much smaller, as is the prepared foods section. I also noticed that they use sesame seeds in a lot more of their sushi than the Hunt Club location. As someone who can't eat sesame seeds and can rarely buy prepackaged sushi, this made me sad. They have dim sum and Chinese BBQ and also an area to eat the food you purchase. It's good court style seating. I did notice their impressive selection of imported Lay's chips. Their selection was comparable to the other location in this regard. I doubt I will return unless I'm already in the area for another reason because it's far from my home and I rather go to the Hunt Club location, but I think it's great for Kanata residents. And it's breathing some much needed life into Hazeldean Mall. Lots of free parking in the mall parking lot. (200)

The inside of the store is clean, the lighting is good, there's a lot of parking & direct access by bus. The only negative I would give to this store is that the aisles are a bit on the smaller side, and I can see this getting really busy. I went on a Thursday, it wasn't too busy but I was still having to navigate around people and bumping into a few others. Also, if you are someone that likes making soups and stocks you can get chicken bones here for $1 per pound

It's where the old McArthur Lanes Bowling Alley used to be. Green Fresh Supermarket is an Asian supermarket. It has lots of fresh produce, frozen items, refrigerated items, and shelf stable items. I was impressed with the amount of bubble tea ingredients they had. They had not just tapioca and jelly but also popping boba, and agar pearls. I have not seen the latter 2 at any supermarket before. They also have the lowest prices in the city that I've seen for Kracie DIY candy kits imported from Japan ($4.99). Their prices are a bit cheaper than other Asian supermarkets in general. They have a weekly flyer with even more discounts posted on their website. There is a bubble tea shop inside the supermarket called World Tea House and also a kiosk that sells bubble waffles called Nana Egg Bubbles. They don't have any other prepared foods though (like no BBQ station) and no Bakery. If you're looking for Asian items, you'll likely find it here. Free parking in their private parking lot.

Y'all know I love international grocery stores because I love imported snacks and drinks. So when I learned about this Algerian grocery store in Gatineau, I had to make the trek across the Interprovincial bridge to check it out, lol. It's funny because it's literally just across the river, but I rarely ever venture into Gatineau and it's a big adventure for me to do so, haha. Anyway, the grocery store is small, but it has a bakery and a butchery. I was there for their sandwiches and baked goods and to check out any imported snacks or drinks. I got a steak sandwich ($17.99) which they make to order. They fry up the steak when you order. The sandwich also has french fries inside it (!) which was unusual for me, but it was good, lol. The bread was fresh and crusty on the outside, but soft and chewy inside. I chose the Algerian sauce, which has a hint of spice. I also got onions, tomatoes and cucumbers in the sandwich. I asked if they had lettuce, but they didn't. The steak was a bit chewy, but still good. I found the sandwich a bit pricey though, but it was tasty. I liked that the man preparing my food wore nitrile gloves and he also was wearing a hair net and a bread net. I appreciated the good food handling practices. I also got a slice of the Algerian covered pizza (this is what it was called on the receipt). It was $3. They had another type of pizza which was $2.50 a slice and it looked like Sicilian Tomato Pie (you know, the cheese-less pizzas with just tomato sauce). The pizza I got was Phyllo pastry with a thin layer of tomatoes, onions and olives inside. It was good, but a bit too greasy for my tastes. All the pastries looked good, but I ended up getting a piece of flan ($4.50). This was the most disappointing of my purchases. The flan was too solid for my liking and tasted chalky. It was not smooth and creamy like I expected. Perhaps it was not fresh. I should have gotten a piece of cake instead. They had so many varieties of imported sodas and were about $2-3 each. They had Green Apple Schweppes and Mojito Schweppes. And 7Up Mojito and so many exotic Fantas. The butchery is small but it had some unusual-to-me stuff I rarely see elsewhere, like veal brains. I am not that adventurous, (and I'm too scared of prions), but for those looking for this, you can find it here. The also had canned harissa and lots of sauces. Service was courteous. They had a small bowl of free Algerian caramels at the cash register for customers to try. I may have taken 2 caramels, lol. Free parking available in front of the store in a small parking lot that it shares with neighbouring businesses. (112)

They also have items made in Canada but the type of food is native to other countries. I have been looking for dhalpuri roti shells in Ottawa forever and there are so few places that sell them. They sell them here at Geeland, but only frozen, not fresh. And only 1 brand. They were 3 shells for $5.69. They were made in Canada and I think shipped from Toronto. They also had a whole shelf of stuff to make Halo-Halo! They had a fridge full of exotic drinks too. I was hoping for a counter of prepared foods, but they just had some savoury pastries by the cash register. They had 3 different types and so I got one of each. Nigerian patty ($2.25), Haitian patty ($1.50) and Jamaican beef patty ($1.75). I'll start with the Nigerian meat pie, because that's the only one that I've never had before. It was the biggest and thickest with the most filling. The pastry was similar to that of baked Argentinian empanadas. The filling was ground meat with potatoes and carrots. I'm not sure if it was the spices or the meat, but there was a gamey taste to it that I did not enjoy. I would be open to trying Nigerian meat pies again elsewhere, but I will likely not be getting these ones again. I've had Haitian patties before and they are similar to the French-influenced Vietnamese puff pastry called "pâté chaud" or "banh pâté so." Since both Haiti and Vietnam were at one time French colonies, this is unsurprisingly that they would have some similar French-influeneced dishes. The pastry was puff pastry and the filling was ground meat. There was very little filling to pastry ratio though. The majority of the patty was puff pastry, and the puff pastry was really oily/greasy. I did not like the one at Geeland. I love Jamaican beef patties. When I was in middle school there was a Korean convenience store up the street from my school that sold Jamaican beef patties (that's the cultural mosaic that is Canada for you!), and that's pretty much where all my allowance went, haha. Anyway, the ones at Geeland remind me of those patties I had once upon a time. The pastry was flakey. The filling was not too plentiful, but nice and hot (both in temperature and in spice level). I've had better tasting patties, but nostalgia sometimes trumps taste, lol. Overall, I'm giving this grocery store 4 stars because it's fairly large, clean, well-lit, and sells items that are hard to find in Ottawa. Staff were friendly and there's free parking on site.
