pickle/sauce/and olives bar. They sell pickled turnips!
    Ashley G.

I am so happy that Adonis moved into the neighborhood. I love middle eastern food, and couldn't wait to see what kind of goodies this store had to offer. I am not the only one who was patiently awaiting the grand opening of this store, because it was really busy. Were talking Costco, weekend, crazy-ness, kind of busy. Although, it was the second day of the store opening, and also a Friday evening, during dinner rush hour, it's hard to tell if this will be the "norm" or if it will eventually die down. They have everything you can think of at this store, and its kind of set up like a market. There are several stations, with employees there to serve you. I was most drawn to the large pickle/olive/nuts bar. They have fresh pickled turnips, which are my fave, so I had to get them (photo attached). I was also super happy to find tons of healthy items like cold pressed juice in their produce aisle, a large variety of vegan/vegetarian items (some of which I have never seen in other grocery stores), and lots of vegetarian items in their prepared section like the vegetarian kebbe, which were amazing (photo attached). The aisles are also super wide, and the store was relativity clean. Checkout was quick, but be prepared to bag your own groceries.

Came back again, but found the quality mediocre and the prices high. There are better options around, and I doubt I'll be back.

It's where the old McArthur Lanes Bowling Alley used to be. Green Fresh Supermarket is an Asian supermarket. It has lots of fresh produce, frozen items, refrigerated items, and shelf stable items. I was impressed with the amount of bubble tea ingredients they had. They had not just tapioca and jelly but also popping boba, and agar pearls. I have not seen the latter 2 at any supermarket before. They also have the lowest prices in the city that I've seen for Kracie DIY candy kits imported from Japan ($4.99). Their prices are a bit cheaper than other Asian supermarkets in general. They have a weekly flyer with even more discounts posted on their website. There is a bubble tea shop inside the supermarket called World Tea House and also a kiosk that sells bubble waffles called Nana Egg Bubbles. They don't have any other prepared foods though (like no BBQ station) and no Bakery. If you're looking for Asian items, you'll likely find it here. Free parking in their private parking lot.

They have a little bit of everything. Lots of noodles, sauces, canned goods, etc. They also have some fresh fruits and frozen items. I loved their selection of imported drinks! This grocery store is where the Trudel Home Hardware used to be and I love how the back wall had tools and other items that the hardware store used to sell. The store is spacious, bright, clean and well organized. I grabbed a Strawberry Fanta and it was only $1.50. The man at the cash register was friendly. He told me they've been open for about 6 months now. Funny story, as I was uploading the pictures I took onto Yelp, I realized I snapped an accidental shot while approaching the cash register. In the photo was the ceiling with the flags of the countries around the world hanging from it. I didn't even notice this while I was in the store, but it's so cool. Sometimes things that were unintentional, end up being the coolest of all ;) Downtown Ottawa definitely needs a store like this. Happy that they opened up. May they live long and prosper ;)

It was a tiny bit soggy by the time we drove home but still really good. I like the sauce a lot, and the portion is great for the price. It comes with a small side of pickled daikon, but it wasn't that pickled - could be better but a minor detail overall. The lady at the cashier was also super nice. The assortment of groceries looked really good too. They carry a lot of Korean food that I'm not sure where else you would find in Ottawa, and a few Japanese items as well.

You can order ahead or pick from the prepared food on the right of the cashier. I only wish the sweet and spicy sauce was spicier (it was very very mild to us) but they recently added a new soy & chili flavour that can scale up on the spice. It wasn't greasy and probably one of the better places for KFC by Ottawa standards. TIP: if you're getting take out and worried about the sauce making the chicken soft while you drive home, you can ask for the sauce on the side! They have plenty of Korean ingredients, snacks, noodles and a killer homemade kimchi that I believe is freshest on Fridays. There isn't much fresh produce but they do have lots of meats. Prices are a bit higher here but they're well stocked. The location is very clean and the staff are friendly. There's only street parking in front of the store but you can park in the lot across the street where the LCBO is.

So I knew that I would love Mergi Shop. It's been open for a while, but I only recently made my way down there. It's in a rougher part of town, hence the bars on the windows. Public drug use, vandalism and acts of violence are common in this area, especially in the last few years. The store inside is brightly lit, clean and well-organized. Staff are friendly, greeting you as you enter, but leave you to browse on your own. If you need assistance though, they will help. I came to buy a specific Japanese mascara base (the Japanese make the best mascaras, IMO). Unfortunately, they didn't have it, but they had other items, including regular mascara of the same brand (Kiss Me Heroine Make). I got a mascara ($18.79) and decided to try their liquid eyeliner ($16.49) too, since the store was having a 10% off sale and I wanted to make my trip down there worthwhile, lol. They had lots of chips and other snacks from Asia and also imported drinks. They had mostly items from Japan and Korea that are harder to find. Not stuff from China that you can easily get at Kowloon Supermarket, Green Fresh or T&T. Their prices are very fair considering they are imported goods and rarer to find in Ottawa. I really enjoyed poking around looking at stuff in this store. Street parking only. (88)
