I was first introduced to Adonis when I was living in Toronto, so was happy to see they came to Ottawa. Adonis sells mostly Middle Eastern food products. I love their baked goods, especially their meat pies and desserts. They have a lot of different types of baklava. I like their prepared foods too. They have lots of cooked meats with rice. The place is big. It's a fun place to shop. Service is friendly, but my son gave me a gift card and it was a big hassle to use it. They have to call the manager to process the gift card. The manager needs to use a special machine and apparently their Wi-Fi is spotty so the machine wasn't working properly and it took so long to finish the transaction. At least they apologized, but I've told my son not to buy me gift cards at Adonis again. read more

Adonis has finally arrived in Ottawa! Their grand opening was yesterday, November 21, 2019. Adonis is a grocery store chain from Quebec. I've been to locations in Montreal and in Toronto, and this one in Ottawa is similar to the one in Toronto, very big and spacious. The one in Montreal near the old forum and Alexis Nihon is an "Urban Concept" store, so much smaller. I would describe Adonis as a Middle Eastern Loblaws, the same way I would describe T&T as an Asian Loblaws (although Loblaws actually owns T&T, while it's Metro that owns Adonis - so I guess it's more accurate to say that Adonis is like a Middle Eastern Metro, lol). They have a big prepared foods section and bakery. Everything looked delicious and I wanted one of everything! I did get a pistachio cake roll ($3.49) and it was really rich and buttery. Too much so for my tastes, but I generally like lighter cakes like angel food cake. Anything you buy at the prepared foods or bakery sections need to be paid for at a separate cash register than the grocery store items. A bit inconvenient if you have items from everywhere, but it was ok for me because all I bought was the cake. They have a nuts and olives section that is pay by the pound. They also have a deli and a meats section. Their aisles of shelf-stable, frozen, and refrigerated items are wide and the entire store is brightly lit. They have a food produce section as well. Prices are average to pricey. It's not a bargain grocery store. You pay a premium for items that aren't readily available at other grocery stores. It's a fun place to poke around, especially since it's new to Ottawa. It's in a plaza on St. Laurent near Donald. Same plaza as Food Basics, Giant Tiger and the newly opened Decathlon. Lots of free parking. read more

I am so happy that Adonis moved into the neighborhood. I love middle eastern food, and couldn't wait to see what kind of goodies this store had to offer. I am not the only one who was patiently awaiting the grand opening of this store, because it was really busy. Were talking Costco, weekend, crazy-ness, kind of busy. Although, it was the second day of the store opening, and also a Friday evening, during dinner rush hour, it's hard to tell if this will be the "norm" or if it will eventually die down. They have everything you can think of at this store, and its kind of set up like a market. There are several stations, with employees there to serve you. I was most drawn to the large pickle/olive/nuts bar. They have fresh pickled turnips, which are my fave, so I had to get them (photo attached). I was also super happy to find tons of healthy items like cold pressed juice in their produce aisle, a large variety of vegan/vegetarian items (some of which I have never seen in other grocery stores), and lots of vegetarian items in their prepared section like the vegetarian kebbe, which were amazing (photo attached). The aisles are also super wide, and the store was relativity clean. Checkout was quick, but be prepared to bag your own groceries. read more

I went specifically for lunch to the BBq section. What a lovely store! The prepared food counter was very busy and all the food looks nice. The organization was poor - they had 'pick a number' but it wasn't being followed very diligently by the stressed people behind the counter. Took 20 minutes to get my shawarma trio ($11). Longest of all time. Also - First time in my life that I wasn't asked what I wanted on my shawarma. Wtf? And no garlic offered on the potatoes. Overall the sandwich was ok. Nothing special. Potatoes were uniquely spiced. I would go back and try again, for sure, as I know this to be a quality establishment. Then again - N'jaim is closer, less crowded, and the food is awesome there. read more

I like mostly everything about the store except for their Tabooli. The parsley is chewy and packed full of stems. The reason I don't make my own tabooli is because it's time consuming to take the stems off. They don't bother. They obviously put it through a food processor stems and all. read more

I bought some tenderloin meat last week for $9.95 a pound on sale thinking it was a good deal. I served it to my family for a special meal, lord and behold we were so disappointed as the meat was so tough and stringy that I was a shamed I felt like I was a bad cook. Where in the world did you get such crappy meat, it wasn't worth the money I paid for. I will never again shop at your store no matter what you will have on special. C. Labrie. read more

It pains me to write a negative review, so I will start with the positive: Super selection of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, cheese, meats, desserts and dairy. On our first trip, we picked up a grilled chicken (that comes with pita bread and garlic sauce- which they didn't tell us). Also picked out hummus and salad and more garlic sauce and bread. Chicken was so dry that it was inedible. Hummus was tasteless and salad had no flavor either. Am glad we bought more bread and garlic sauce as that was all I could really eat. I will be back but will change the way I shop there. read more

I was in the Adonis store on st. Laurent, on Wednesday, July 8, 2020. In spite of City of Ottawa regulations (and a multitude of signs stating everyone must wear masks covering mouth, nose, and chin, at least three staff members kept their noses uncovered- and I watched each for a period of several minutes while they handles product, talked, etc. I have copies of the photos I took to support my statement. read more

I was quite insulted today when I went into Adonis for the first time to buy some oat milk vanilla that wasn't in the store next-door. I never go to the store, and I never will again I was accused of stealing from the store when I had groceries from the store next-door they demanded a receipt which I don't have because I use a visa warning to the few if you have bags, please check them in the front before you go into store. Otherwise they will accuse you of stealing if you do not have a receipt for the products you bought next door. I will never step foot in one of these stores ever again. read more

it's not the same adonis owners as before and changing service and the prices and the quality, if they keep going with this management I'm sure they will be 30% down as a business income. Also we don't feel we are going to a Lebanese store. read more

4 stars = Yay, I'm a fan! Usually I'll mention the bad stuff first and then fill the rest of the review with the good stuff. I'm going to do the reverse, becauae there are so many great things to say about this place. I was first introduced to Adonis when we were visiting my in-laws in the south shore of Montreal, in the area where Hwy10 meets Hwy30, the sector known as Dix30. My wife an I were l ways intrigued by the sign seen from the off ramp. Our curiosity was satisfied one evening, when we decided to get supper ingredients for the family. Choice of fresh produce, prepared foods, and ready to eat dishes were quite amazing. This was punctuated even further when we sat down to eat at the table that evening. Too bad we didn't have a place like this here in the capital. Well, now we do. It's a 25 minute drive from our place to this location on St. Laurent BLVD. But, it is SO worth the drive. The flat grilled chicken is SO GOOD. The salads on offer are tasty. I don't know what dressing is on the Fatoush, but I could drink it on it's own. The dish-of-the-day is never disappointing. The store is spacious and laid out nicely. Aisles are nice and wide as well. And, now the stuff I could do without. The prepared food counters have a number system, but they don't use it. The staff behind the counter have no clue who has been served, or being served. I was approached by 3 different staff members to ask what I wanted. This level of communication - or lack of - isn't what I'm used to. The parking lot isn't nearly big enough for this store. I also fail to understand why there is another full size grocery store next door. I guess the landlord wasn't really thinking about his when they allowed Adonis to move in. Lastly - and I admit this is a small niggle, but worth mentioning - the celery in the produce isle was placed on the rack while still in it's plastic bag. This would be fine if it weren't for the water being sprayed on it periodically. Either remove the bag, or turn off the sprinklers! read more

I recently bought what was marked as sweet lemon for the price of $3 per pound. To my surprise, they were all sour lemons of much cheaper quality. When I mentioned it to the manager she shrugged it off. I showed them the pile and they were sour lemons. They cut two of them and they were sour. This is completely dishonest and cheating people. I will never shop there again. read more

Ridiculous before entering I saw a few employees pulling on 2 ladies purse. I did not like what I saw. I still went in thinking it was not of my businesa. I had not realized that it was 10 minutes to closing. All the fruits and vegetables were covered with burlap so I went quickly around the store and left. There was a man that was not wearing a mask following too closely and they asked to see my bags and open my purse! How insulting! I of course had nothing but my purse is personal. I am completely repulsed but their way. I will never ever go there in my life. There are way too many business around that actually know how to treat clients. I strong't recommend Giant Tiger and Food Basic that are located next door!!!! read more
