I arrived about 10 minutes early, Carlton was still with another patient and was about 15 minutes late to start my appointment. When I finally got into his office, he immediately told me, he's unable to treat tinnitus. I appreciated his candor, but it was weirdly abrupt. I have never had such a short medical consultation of any kind. I had literally just sat down. Back in reception, there was already someone else waiting. He then charged me $60 for the 'office visit'. I was in his treatment room for maybe 2 minutes. That's when I realized, he was double booked and running late. But he still wanted some money. Ugh. And then as I was leaving, he calls out, right in front of the other patient, "come back if have you regular aches or pains, but I can't treat THAT". Yeah he made it sound like I have some kind of 'irregular' condition. So basically I paid $60 to wait in reception for 25 minutes and then get embarrassed on the way out.

I've been struggling with arthritis and chronic pain in my hands for several years since I…read morerecovered from carpal tunnel syndrome. I've tried various treatments from western doctors, but they only seemed to treat the symptoms and not heal the core issue. So after seeing some government research on the effectiveness of acupunture for treating arthritis, I decided to give it a shot. First session and most of my pain went away for a few days. Before treatment, my pain was around a 6/10 constantly. After the first treatment, it went down to around 3/10. Pretty effective so far, but would it last? After about 2 weeks of treatment and herbal medicine, my pain levels dropped to around 3/10 consistently. The inflammation reduced a fair amount to the point where my hands weren't constantly swollen red all day. Since my condition was pretty severe I decided to get treatment for about 4 months, 1-2x a week, and doing physical therapy on the side to rebuild my hand strength. Now I can gladly say that I'm mostly pain and inflammation free in my hands. My hands are still a little weakened from overuse and there's some lingering soreness in my right hand, but my physical therapy is helping with that. I can actually lift weights again, which I'd go into relapse if I tried that before I began treatment. All the staff were always so friendly and accommodating to me. The clinic was very clean and aesthetically pleasing, with relaxing classical music playing in the background. If anyone's worried about dirty needles, I haven't caught anything besides the occasional minor bruising and swelling after sessions sometimes. But they all quickly healed in 2-3 days. My insurance covered costs, but even without insurance it still would cost less than western doctors with insurance. I would strongly recommend anyone suffering from arthritis to try out acupuncture and maybe do physical therapy as well. I thought I'd have to live like an 80 year old in my 20's forever, but I'm thankful for everyone at hopespring for helping my recovery.

Dr. Maura has probably saved my life TWICE in the past 5-6 years, when I couldn't get an appt. with…read moremy "regular" doctors to see what was going on in my system. *I met Dr. Maura in early 2000's when I was first diagnosed with celiac/food allergies. She made a huge difference in my eating habits and my feeling so much better. She got me on a much better diet after testing for those food allergies. *In 2017 I was having a lot of acid reflux, and she had me go to Bellevue Imaging for some scans, which found out I had a bit of lung cancer instead. Had 1/2 of my right lung removed, at Virginia Mason in Seattle after I found a local lung Dr. at Evergreen, for that referral. Am now doing great, even with COVID around. *This month (April, 2021) I told her about some odd burning sensations under my rib bones. Another trip to Bellevue imaging found heavy calcium deposits on two of my main ventricals. She also referred me to her favorite cardiologist last week, had a long appt. with him, am doing more tests, this week and next, with surgery in 10 days. That physician said I have a 95% chance of having a stroke. All of my Dr's are great, but not available for sometimes weeks and weeks. Dr. Maura has flexible hours, LISTENS, and questions, and is really cool to talk to. Hopefully, I won't have anything else happening this year or next, that requires her professional advice to seek MORE solutions, thru her resources in King Co. I LOVE Dr. Maura's office, will probably always go to her more often as needed for odd issues in my aging body.
