Should you happen to find yourself in the Hunter Valley Gardens Shopping Village, be sure to head…read moredown to The Garden Cellars for a fabulous selection of wine, beer, or some locally-made liquors. The Garden Cellars has quite the range, and is a great place to stock up on items from the Hunter Valley and elsewhere around Australia. In terms of brews, it was one of the more diverse selections we found during our time in the country, with bottles hailing from around the world for sale in their beer tunnel. While row upon row of choices can seem daunting, their staff are also excellent at finding the perfect one to suit your palate. They also have a tasting bar if you want to sample before you buy, with quite a few different options from nearby producers. Among those we tried, we found Polin & Polin made some of our favorite shirazes- although it should be noted that they do make several different ones and each has its own distinctive flavor. In addition they have a number of items from the Hunter Distillery with flavors less commonly found such as Ginger or Turkish Delight. So come, sample, and shop, The Garden Cellars is sure to have something for everyone (assuming you are of legal drinking age). Cheers!

The restaurant is very simple and the dishes are delicious. Our group was very partial to caramelized onion/ marinated fetta/ thyme tart as well as the field mushroom stuffed with pine nuts. Be sure to poke around the grounds and enjoy the view of the valley during your meal.

So this is our #1 wine to bring back from Australia visits and the wine we drink almost daily when in New South Wales. So a visit here is required when in the Hunter Valley. And we did come away with a case and a half of wine. But... The snotty little bitch perched and immovable behind the cash register should give up any plans for a career in retailing. Maybe any plans for any career. Find a rich husband and leech off him, or maybe Daddy owns the winery. No, that's not likely - she wouldn't be working in the tasting room if he did. The older lady, who took care of our tasting, was fine. But when she told me about a "special" on cases of their chardonnay, I did a quick calculation and told her I'd bought it cheaper at a bottle shop in the Northern Beaches of Sydney. She said she'd match that price. Then snotty bitch started typing on her computer and advised me that I was wrong, I didn't get it at that price and couldn't have it now at that price. I named the shop and when I'd bought the wine, off an end cap display twice a week apart. She several times over told me I was a liar and it couldn't be. I almost left empty handed I was so pissed, but we wanted a few other wines that are only available at the cellar door. Snotty bitch finally acknowledged that the price I got was the price that retailer paid for the wine, so maybe I did get it at that price. By then I was avoiding any conversation with her and focusing on the lady helping us. I'll be back. With the knowledge that by the next time snotty bitch will have found work matching her personality.

It was recommended by my partner's dad who is a wine expert. This cellar door is very small compared to the others. (I dont think it can fit more than 10 people !) It's prices are reasonable and the staff are efficient and presentable. The bar is noticeably heavy on the peroni products which pushes the feel of clinical and sterile environment, although the happy hour was efficient, the crowd severely diminished and the bar, at 9pm it seemed to be severely tapering off. They have an extensive cocktail list. The fit out is sleek and professional but gives off the feelings of that corporate cafe you wouldn't revisit. The fact they had a DJ on a Friday night extruded the misplaced attention and feel they are presenting to their patrons. I appreciated the snappy service and that the food was tasty and prompt. It's a great spot for that after work drink , but unfortunately not much else.
