This was our 4th year to stay at the Islander East with my parents, and the 4th year to stay in unit #216. The good things: It has direct beach access without having to cross a busy road with young kids to get to the beach. The unit has been redone, with nice tiled showers and updated bathrooms, granite kitchen counters, and views on each side of the unit. The unit is spacious enough to easily sleep 6 people, and room enough for 8. The kitchen is well stocked with pans, although some could use replacing. The pool is very nice, and our kids loved being able to swim after dinner or before breakfast. The maintenance staff is super friendly, and was extremely prompt in addressing a couple of issues we had when we arrived. Howie and Trixie at the front desk are both very helpful and friendly. The not so good: Upon arriving, after about 30 minutes of shoes off unloading things in various rooms, the bottoms of our feet were absolutely black, completely gross. The room appeared clean, swept, but wonder if the floors had been mopped in a while. The cleaning service did promptly come up the next day and mopped the entire unit. There were toiletries left in the shower from the previous renters including a razor that had not been removed. One of the beds in the master next to the water had a quilt, but no sheets had been put on the bed. The coffee pot did not work, but they promptly replaced it later that morning. We had a few issues with the AC in the third bedroom, but again maintenance was prompt to address it and help to get it fixed. The worst: The manager. She is simply not a nice, friendly person. Our stay was for five nights, with six people. We asked once for additional trash bags and once for an additional roll of paper towels. (after we had already used the ones we brought). She promptly (and rudely) informed us that stays over 2 nights require you to bring your own additional supplies, and that this was listed in our confirmation letter. Nowhere in that confirmation does it specifically state you are required to bring your own supplies. Nor does it state this in the policies you sign when you check in. It does state in the confirmation letter that you may arrange for a cleaning service during your stay (for an additional fee) and a "clipper" service to restock amenities (no fee mentioned, nor is "clipper" service defined). She was rude to other guests waiting to ask a question. She very rudely told one young lady who was waiting behind someone checking in that she "would just have to wait". We will be looking to see what other area rentals are available besides returning to Islander East due to the unwelcoming attitude from the manager. Service is obviously not where she excels. read more
