I really can't say why anyone would give this place a bad review. The staff are all very accommodating and friendly and the place itself is a lodge way up north, a bit more rugged, it has wear and tear but also a lot of charm. The beds are comfortable, the room a bit dated but with a rugged charm that makes up for it. The view is spectacular from the room. Lunch on the deck was awesome. Free canoe and paddle boat use. The bar at the lodge is so quaint. We are really enjoying the tranquil stay here. Thanks to the staff who are making it extra nice. read more

Terrible experience. Skin fragments on floor by bed. Wet toilet paper on floor in bathroom. Receptionist was rude, sent housekeeper. Showed items to cleaning team. Then was called by receptionist and told there was a few dead bugs on the screen. And that was all. Reserved for three nights, left after one. Too dirty and very rude. Meh. Beautiful view. That's the best thing this place has going for it. We ordered two burgers and a beer. A bottle of Elysian Spacedust was $6.50, which was insane. My black and bleu burger didn't have any blackened seasoning on it or the sauce it was supposed to come with. My bf ordered a burger and it didn't have the chipotle mayo he ordered either but he requested it again after the burger arrived. The cheese curds were ok but the sauce was not so I asked for a side of house made ranch which was good. The fries were from the freezer and just ok. When I ordered my burger, I asked for it to be done medium. The waitress reassuringly replied that that's how they do all their burgers. There wasn't one spot of pink on either of our burgers. They weren't dry but definitely were not medium. The bartender was friendly and the service was pleasant. The prices in general were steep. It was $3 for 2 strips of bacon to be added to my bf's burger. (And it was $12 for a hot dog, which we didn't get.) Also, upon arriving the set up is weird. There is a sign for the lobby or for the bar but not a general entrance for the restaurant. The bathroom was clean. I don't think we shall return. I would recommend this as a nice place to stop for an expensive drink while taking in the views, but nothing more. read more

Island View has decent American food, fantastic view of Rainy Lake, easy boat parking, great for families. We had the bow tie, French dip, and buffalo chicken, all of which were fantastic with good portion sizes. read more

Enjoyed our stay and our meal here. Very comfortable deck for a drink on the lake. Hotel room overlooked the lake too. Sat by the window in the restaurant. Food was fine, but the service everywhere was great. Nice, friendly folks. read more

4 of us stayed at island view for a week in May this year and it was great. We stayed in cabin 9 which has an amazing view of the lake. This particular cabin has that vintage fishing cabin look and feel. It is definitely older looking inside but it felt like the perfect place to be in for a northern Minnesota fishing trip. Don't expect the Hyatt regency here so despite some of its imperfections it served its purpose really well. This isn't a high end resort with all kinds of fancy amenities, But that's not what it's supposed to be. These cabins get used for less than half of the year so occasionally there might be an issue here and there and we understood that. We lost pressure in our shower and they came out almost immediately and took care of it. We rented 2 fishing boats that had all the bells and whistles we needed to fish for the week with and we ended up catching a ton of fish. It has a good restaurant and in our opinion great food( although it is a little pricey). They also let us use their freezer space to hold fish for us until the end of our trip. So if your looking for back massages, and long white beaches this isn't for you. But if you want great fishing at a lodge that is good at what's its supposed to be good at then we highly recommend island view. We are definitely going back. read more

On my most recent visit I could not believe the behavior of the owner. I was sitting at a table on the deck with some friends and overheard her loudly berating an older couple for wearing face masks. I saw them arrive with them on and they took them off to drink and eat. They were just sitting there trying to enjoy themselves and she started yelling at them and bullying them for trying to be respectful and protect her staff and customers. I was shocked and feel really guilty that I didn't say anything to defend them from her attack. At one point she started yelling about hanging up Trump banners. I am NOT joking. We lost our appetite and left soon afterward. I won't be back and I'm telling everyone I know about her ridiculous behavior. Her behavior was reprehensible and the poorest example of hospitality I've ever seen. read more

The worst service. Actually thats not totally true. We drove up yesterday on the boat, we had a great waitress outside and although the food took awhile, she was very honest about it and we got okay apps and drinks on the patio. We came back tonight for dinner and sat in the bar area at 6:30pm, leaving now at 9:45 with an over $200 tab and food that took 2 hours to get there. The food was gross (we got the walleye sandwich and it came dry plopped on a bun with nothing else on it, the spicy noodles came recommended by the waitress and were served in a bread bowl with no noodles-10 min after the rest of the table got their food, the salads were probably the best option but still meh.) So anyway the view is good and if you want a drink while you're scooting around the lake, stop on, but don't expect to be treated decently. Even when we asked what was up with the food, the waitresses were rude and told us we were being ridiculous. It's sad because this place was a staple to our family growing up, and we will not be going back. read more

The Island View Lodge is a great place to eat a steak dinner or enjoy a cocktail with a beautiful view of Rainy Lake on their new large deck. The family owned resort is close to the Canadian border and about 13 miles east of International Falls, MN. We usually visit by boat and wish they had more dock space as it is often difficult to get a parking space as word has spread about the great food,drink and service. When we eat in the dining room we usually ask to be seated in 'Marilyn's section' as Marilyn is a fabulous waitress who has been at the Island View for many years and is known for her great service even when the dining room is full. I believe they are currently only opened during summer months. read more
