My husband was referred to Island Urology (Oahu) twice and was never contacted. I left a message on their voicemail and still no return call. I was finally able to speak to someone, I think her name was Larissa (something like that) who then advised my husband was not accepted but she would not state the reason. When asked if it was due to not accepting new patients, she advised that wasn't the reason but still would not elaborate. She suddenly got cocky. When I told her I going to file a complaint she got even more defensive. I reported her to the primary physician, and I will also be filing a complaint with HMSA that this business should be taken off of their referral list. The doctors maybe excellent at their job, but we will never know since the front office staff should be replaced. read more

Dr. Randall Blake has a terrible bedside manner, did not listen or properly diagnose my condition. After one visit I decided not to follow up. It's very hard to find a urologist on the Big Island. I have been waiting several months to see the recommended one but being in a bind needed to see someone and I took a chance on seeing Dr. Blake. It was a waste of time and money, leaving me more traumatized than I was already from my condition. read more

There were multiple reasons I gave this place one star. They don't deserve even one star but that's not an option!! The staff was rude and rushed. The wait time to be seen was two weeks out for a kidney stone. Then they took another week to fax over a referral to the radiologist, and after another X-ray they had him come all the way back in just to say that his stone was gone. This was after I talked to them asking if it was very important that he come in and be seen face to face. I guess they couldn't say his kidney was gone over the phone? We should have just picked up the X-rays and looked them ourselves!! This biggest thing that happened though was this: My husband had a kidney stone and after being seen in the E.R. they referred him to Island Urology to follow up. So we traveled from the west side of the island to the east about two hours to see this urologist. When the doctor came in he said that my husband should not be in pain because his kidney stone was so small like the size of a grain of sand. He proceeded to send us home. My husband asked why his left side hurt. The doctor said that his left side should not hurt because the stone is on the right. So the doctor thankfully looked once more at the X-ray and realized he was looking at the wrong side! He had two stones!! He was going to send my husband home in a huge amount of pain! If we hadn't pushed for further answers then who knows what would have happened. I would not recommend this doctor to my worst enemy. read more

If I could give Dr. Lawrence Reithaus and his staff 10 stars I would. A CAT scan showed a neoplasm in my bladder and I was referred to Island Urology. I called for an appointment on Tuesday morning and was seen that afternoon. The Dr. suggested a Cytscopy (sp?) and I was expecting a weeks wait - but, was rescheduled for the very next day. These are wonderful, caring medical professionals. No "attitude" (except one of caring and concern). I trust them - literally - with my life. I will have surgery soon in Honolulu to remove the tumor and hopefully get on with living a long and productive life. I thank Island Urology for giving me and sustaining hope and confidence.
