    Hammersmith

The hubby and I saw Standup for Shelter at the Apollo last night. We laughed a lot. I even cried…read morebecause I laughed so hard. Ah, I love times like those. Hammersmith Apollo, now known as Eventim Apollo, is large and in charge. The size of this venue is so deceiving from the exterior. Who knew such a large theatre existed, literally, a few feet from Hammersmith station? Side note: Our seats were located in Circle Block 4, Row H. So, the second row of the second balcony. And located next to the hallway wall. I would say that they were in an unfortunate location. In the middle of the theatre but next to a wall. Our seats were a bit too far back for my liking. It was hard to see the comedians and, at times, the sound was a bit too loud/muffled. I think if we'd sat any further back, this review would be written slightly less positive. It's a big venue and a big stage and a single person on stage looks like an ant. We arrived about 30 minutes prior to start time and the bars inside (multiple bars on multiple levels) were packed. We skipped drinking and went straight to our seats. The ushers were friendly and guided us to our seats - no issues there. There were also no issues with row or seat numbering in our section though I do know that this theatre recently underwent £5M top-to-bottom renovation which was completed in September 2013, so perhaps this issue was sorted during the refurb. It looks fab. The seat width was great but the legroom, not so much. The seats have an unnecessary generous rounded back to them and since they are staggered (to prevent people staring at the backs of heads), the rounded seat-back falls right at your knees. I can say that after 1.5 hours of sitting, I was ready to get up and stretch my legs. And just as I had that thought, intermission hit BUT due to the location of our seats and the short 20-minute intermission, we actually never left our seats. Would I return to the Apollo? Of course! Would I pay extra for seats closer to the stage? Yes.

Came here for a show and this was my first time here. I've seen lots of acts come here but we got…read morefree tickets and looks like a great venue. I'd like to come back and see another show here. Also took a peek downstairs and the seating there is pretty good too.

Absolutely first class place! If you are lucky enough to visit this place you won't be…read moredisappointed, it basically was the top studio in London during the 70's and 80's and probably still is today competing against the likes of Abbey Road Studios etc... Metropolis Studios are located in Chiswick High Road next to the bus station this is also where they also filmed 'On The Buses' from this garage! this place used to be a power house in it's early days and was converted and was basically was the home for many very big recording artists including Queen that had a studio made for them as this was where they basically made history for many of their well known classic songs they produced at Metropolis Studios.

I had the pleasure to record in one of their studios along with Right Said Fred (Richard Fairbrass…read moreand Fred Fairbrass) along with some other fans to record a new fan based version of "I'm Too Sexy" to celebrate their 25th anniversary. The studios are spacious and well equipped however even though spacious does get a tad warm in the room. They have a large mix base with all these knobs and buttons everywhere don't know what most of them done but looked impressive and was great watching the mixers at work. The experience with Richard and Fred of Right Said Fred will be one I will never forget. Near the end of the day of busy recording we had a tour around the rest of the building and it was great to see Queen's (Freddie Mercurys) piano that he used to take everywhere with him at these studios in a big hall area I even got to tinkle the keys of the great black piano. Sounded beautiful even though I don't know how to play. Also saw the room where Queen used to hang out and many other artists and other studios in which famous musicians have sung. However the studios can be hired out so its not always the rich and famous that use them. I highly recommend to anyone that is thinking of doing a recording. Facts: Metropolis Studios is one of the few remaining recording studios in London. Famous musicians such as Queen, Michael Jackson, Right Said Fred, Adele etc have sung in these studios. But before this place was a studio it was a Power House and was also used in the classic TV program "On the Busses"
