He shared all sorts of great stories about living in Alaska, its history, and its nature as we drove out to the boardwalk. He was a steady, comforting presence as we walked the boardwalk out to the bear station. One of our members had challenges walking and he was always patient and supportive. He went above and beyond to ensure her trip was smooth. The bears were absolutely amazing. Just so stunning to see up close. There were adults, adolescents, and event moms with tiny cubs. We ended up being the last ones there and it was pure magic. Then he ensured we made it back to the boat on time without any problems at all. Yes, the bears were simply wonderful, but having Bob there with us made it even that much more special. He made us feel protected and safe. I highly recommend Bob and this organization for anybody who has any interest in seeing bears in their natural environment. I'll be posting the full set of photos on my LisaShea website shortly. Im not much of a hunter but I love going for the gorgeous scenery and fishing! Especially for crab shrimp and halibut! The BEST! Its seriously so Beautiful Here! When it came to fishing the crew always had my fishing pole ready with either my halibut/salmon set up. Yes its "self guided" fishing so they provided a very easy map to follow and pointed me to what they called a "honey hole". Even though its self guided they were still helpful in areas on where to fish. I definitely didnt catch the biggest halibut but I was proud of it! Im 100lbs and fighting with the 25lb halibut was tough hahaha! I also caught loads of crabs and shrimp in my pots! EVERYDAY! HECK YES! I will definitely be coming back again to Green Rocks! The crew is always so helpful and very knowledgeable. The owners are also very helpful and attentive to anything, weather its a question about fishing or just to tell stories, and wanting more wine...for myself! Hahaha! If there was ever an issue, everyone at Green Rocks was always there to help and resolve it. I couldnt figure out how to operate the heater in my cabin and one of the crew members were on it right away got it fixed! I was warm and toasty again! Great service all around! If youre an avid fisherman/woman, love the outdoors, or just want a peaceful getaway...(with delicious food) I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND a visit to Green Rocks Lodge! Nature is all around, I absolutely loved it!

Our first day out we chartered a halibut trip with Captain Jim. While he tried his best, we couldn't seem to get too many on the boat. That's fishing! He was a great guy and regardless of the number of halibut we caught (3 chickens), it was a great day on the water! We talked to Jim throughout the week and they did have some better days catching some good sized fish. The next 3 days we spent on the 23' upgraded boat fishing for salmon and let me tell you, it was phenomenal! Jason and Trish led us to some of the places that usually catch fish and none of them disappointed! We caught some of the biggest silver salmon I've seen! They were some bruisers. We even spent one day rock fish and halibut fishing. We know very little about this but managed to stumble on a good little hole. 4 halibut and 7 rockfish later, we were headed back to camp. SOOOO much fun! The crab pots were slow to catch but we still managed to eat 5 of those tasty little critters! It was an absolutely extraordinary trip! One we would definitely do again in a heartbeat! We know that fishing is not always "hot" as we fish back home a lot, but we hit it just right! Adventure Alaska does a fantastic job as is evident by all the return clientele we met at the lodge. The trout lodge was great as it fit 5 of us perfectly. The hot tub and pool table was a welcome distraction after a long day of fishing. The fillet table was very well setup. Everyone was very willing to offer advice and we also met some great guests! I go to alaska at least once a year to fish and this is by far my favorite trip! If you are looking for a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of normal life and are willing to do most everything yourself then this is the place! I can't thank you enough Jason and Trish, we had a ball!

Mike works hard to make sure everything is ready for you each day. All the fish processing and boat preparation is done by him, giving you more free time to enjoy your evening. You can go at your own pace and do the fishing you want to do. (Halibut, salmon, rockfish, river fishing too for Steelhead and cut throats). Cabins were comfortable with plenty of room for gear. Water was from a rain catchment system. Best water I have had. As his web page states, don't go there for a diet. The food is awesome and plentiful. He has a new bunkhouse being completed this week. Plus a nice "man cave." You can get caught up on your ESPN in the evening or just unplug by the fire ring outside. We can't wait to go back. Took the family this time and can't decide if I want a guys trip or the family trip! (Or just do both)

Had a great week at the Majestic Eagle Lodge (MEL) in June 2025…read more This was the perfect place for my group - we are seasoned DYIers, but we wanted to spend a little bit more money on our fishing trip in order to have someone else feed us, take care of the boat and clean our catch. MEL was perfect in this way - they provided us with everything we needed for a wonderful week. If there was something special we wanted - be it certain snacks, beverages, tackle, etc. then we had to bring that ourselves. Again, MEL has all that anyone will NEED for a week of fun halibut and salmon fishing....but they might not have everything that every guest WANTS. Just be mindful of that when you plan the trip and pack any special tackle or clothes you might want to have. As for drinks and food, the MEL staff will bring you to a grocery store and liquor store after pick-up from the airport so you can get whatever you want there too. Speaking of the MEL staff, everyone was friendly, thoughtful and eager to make our experience a good one - across the board and without exception. Our cabin was sufficient and clean, while the food was excellent and plentiful - breakfasts were McMuffins or burritos to go, we made our own sandwiches at the MEL deli counter for lunch (they had chips and granola bars too), and dinners were served family-style in the dining room. The fishing gear was perfect for our week and well maintained. We had a 20' Hewescraft boat that ran like a top and was equipped with everything we needed or could want. Make sure you pay for the "upgrade" to the covered boat - you'll be motoring around and fishing in the weather so often that going with an open boat could get miserable really fast. MEL doesn't have a dock, but the staff pull the boats into the beach every morning for guests to board - it was simple, and even the old-timers found it easy stepping in to the boats. When it came to the fishing, the staff gave us some tips and basic instruction on the area, but just remember they are NOT guides. I did a lot of reading ahead of time about Alaskan halibut and salmon fishing as well as watching videos online - still it took my group a couple of days to find our rhythm. That seemed pretty normal to me though - it's "fishing," not "catching." :-) We did some crabbing and shrimping as well. The halibut are usually caught in less than 100' of water, and plenty of folks got their limits. We didn't try for salmon, but another guest landed the first king of the year trolling a cut-plug herring beneath a flasher. MEL provided good rods with braided line and high-quality rod holders - no downriggers needed. Brandon, the owner, was very thoughtful and communicative from the time of booking in the Fall straight through to our airport drop-off at the end of our trip. I highly recommend this place - and am looking forward to getting back to MEL in 2026!
