DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They were unable to keep scheduled appointment time. The movers did not put anything down on my floors to protect them I ended up with 2 scratches on my hardwood floor. In addition they hit my wall which now needs to be spackled and painted, as well as scratched my wall trim. I spoke with Sophia who ensured me that they would send someone to repair spackle and paint the area. I never heard back from them. read more

I was able to work with Island Movers just yesterday and after countless moves I can easily say this is the best moving company I've ever worked with. I'm from Honolulu and had a nightmare experience with Island Movers. I had some of my late parents' furniture, dishes and family heirlooms moved from their home in Honolulu to my home in Los Angeles. I was told by Island Movers (and it was confirmed by mail) that Island Movers would carefully go through my belongings and pack-- and where necessary REPACK-- any fragile items. When the truck arrived in L.A., I was stunned to see that an antique Chinese horseshoe chair had not only been broken, but the movers had used sticky cellophane tape and pieces of fabric to hold the broken arms on. I then opened the box of my mother's china and was horrified to find that a plate and an eggshell porcelain cup from the set had been broken. This should not have been a surprise had I known what I then discovered, which is that NOTHING HAD BEEN REPACKED OR SECURED. The plates were stacked with a piece of paper between each, and the cup was loosely wrapped in another piece of paper -- there was no bubble wrap, no crumpled paper, no cushioning, nothing to protect the dishes in the box. The insurance I purchased reimbursed me for the value I claimed. HOWEVER, the antique chair will never be restored to its original state or quality, and the dishes are irreplaceable and no longer manufactured. I did not anticipate having to replace them due to breakage so I did not factor in the cost of locating and purchasing rare antique dishes that would then need to shipped from another country. It would cost literally ten times the value I claimed, and I accept that responsibility. It's really not just the money, though. It's the shocking and cold way in which the agreement I made with Island Movers was ignored. I have sought but never received an explanation as to why my possessions weren't packed as promised and agreed on, and how an antique chair was broken then held together with tape and torn fabric. I am attaching photos to show what came off the Island Movers truck in L.A. My precious family heirlooms were so mishandled, and the company's disregard for their clientele so upsetting, that there is no way I would recommend Island Movers to anyone moving from or to Hawaii. I can't say enough about the services I received from Island Movers! Starting with Sophia, office manager-she helped me through the reservations, the anxiety of moving and the stress and uncertainty with the quality of the services I would receive. I was worried, mostly because I found the company on craigslist, I couldn't find a website (which is now under construction) and I didn't feel the company was reputable enough AND the quote for the cost of the move-was way "too good to be true". I called several other local companies-who hit me with outrageous quotes, requests for down payments, minimum time frames, etc. etc...I also let the internet scare me into thinking folks would pack up the van with all my worldly belongings and scam me! Sophia put me in touch with a previous reference and she also answered all my emails promptly and followed up on all my phone calls within hours. It was truly VIP service through and through, her last call to me was the morning of the move to inform me the movers were on their way! That's when the great team of Michael and Robert took over!! I didn't lift one finger all day, they took care of wrapping everything up, taking apart furniture and then re-assembling everything when we arrived to my new place. They were professional and courteous-moving me from a 2nd floor apartment in a home with stairs into an apartment on the 4th floor in a complex with an elevator on a rainy November day. Everything was handled with the utmost care and respect. I'm so very happy to share this review with you all and serve as a future reference for this amazing company. They reinstated my faith in small businesses and my trust in companies in general. Wishing them much growth and success in their future endeavors!! Call to go to get a quote and they took down all my information and told me they will give me a call back the same day. They called me three days later telling me a quote which was reasonable and I told him I will let them know the next day. I told him let's go ahead and do the move and they told me they will call me back I even emailed them and they never got back to me it's like they don't want any business. Such a weird place and the customer service is just really bad I'm so happy I went with somebody else. Island Movers did an excellent job packing and moving all of our household goods from Honolulu to Georgia this past summer. The people in the office were wonderful about answering my questions and keeping me appraised of the location of our shipment The two packers were exceptional, working quickly and efficiently, yet taking great care with each item and packing the crates to optimize the space and keep everything secure. I credit them with the fact that none of our items broke--although we moved many glass items, and a number of big, glass doors for shelving units. Everything about my experience with Island Movers/Sofia was perfect. Truly everything. I had to change my date 3 times because of issues within my work-place where the move was taking place, and Sofia was always understanding and accommodating. Each time I called, I was on the phone with Sofia immediately, never had to wait for a call-back. Communication including Quotes and Bills of Lading were immediate. The pricing was completely reasonable, as opposed to many others who are out of the stratosphere. Equally, or possibly more important, were the gentlemen, Michael and Robert, who did the actual move. They were professional, uncomplaining, kind, accommodating and really really strong! They did everything exactly as asked, and Everything was done quickly and efficiently. They were held up by a prior move so were a tiny bit off schedule, but considering Sofia squeezed ME in to that spot last minute, and the folks before us underestimated their load, I have ZERO complaint in this regard. Mike and Robert were terrific! I had lots of small odds and ends in addition to my boxes (and a bit of furniture) and they arranged the small pieces together like a perfect puzzle in my storage unit. They were very professional. They even offered to come back and jump start my car when my car battery died in the middle of the move. I highly recommend this company. I had to move my office contents from an old job in Long Island while I was across the country on the west coast. Every other quote I received was so high it would have made more sense to fly back and move things myself. Sophia was a wonderful and good-natured communicator and made a commitment to take photos and video-conference with me while she was packing up my stuff, as I wasn't confident that my old employers had been thorough in moving my belongings to their new location. She was sensitive to my need for long-distance ability to look at the stuff and also to document the move. They also offer a flat fee so you know what you're going to be paying, and don't insist on having three movers when that is overkill, as some other companies did. On the day of the move (the day after I called!) Sophia was home with a sick child, and I told her I was nervous about the mover doing all the photo and video stuff we'd agreed on. The mover, Michael, was WONDERFUL and did everything he said he would, and more. He Facetimed with me several times so I could tell him what to take and what to leave, and volunteered to FaceTime to show me the space before he was leaving, which set my mind at ease and enabled me to have him bring along a few things I'd forgotten were there. He emailed me pictures of the remaining stuff, which I need to dispose of it in the long-distance situation I find myself in. They also sent me emails of how the stuff is arranged in my room where they unpacked and arranged it skillfully so I can still access my desk and bed when I come home, even though my room is now basically a storage space for my office. Michael even made a super helpful suggestion about shrink-wrapping some shelves with my books in them because he perceived that the books were organized in a certain way and this would maintain the order. And it enabled me to keep the shelves, which I hadn't thought I'd be able to! Again, I highly recommend this company! read more

Warning - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I would give them a zero if I could. This is the absolute worst experience I have ever had dealing with any company in general. Where to begin...I hired this company to move one exercise machine from one home to another. When the guys arrived it took them several hours to try to move it out of the home and they were unsuccessful and wasted four hours of the homeowner's and my time and had to come back with additional mover several days later. I asked if they would be so kind as to discount us for the inconvenience, however they did not. Almost a week later they moved the machine into my home and destroyed the entry way and also broke the three sections of the body of the machine and on top of it all they LOST the electrical plug/cord so I couldn't use the machine and had to call several places to find one which I had to pay for additionally. I called them and asked what they could do to correct the issue and they said they would refund me 50 dollars and send me a check for the price of the cord. So now I have a jacked up broken machine and a destroyed entry way and no cord for my machine and I paid $430.00 cash for this unspeakable nightmare. The manager gave me a hard time and undermined me and belittled me when I told her the machine was destroyed. She went on to say she spoke directly with the owner and the woman told her it was an old machine. WRONG not true and completely irrelevant and unprofessional. I cannot express how horrific this experience was from start to finish. I have several businesses myself and this is the worst customer service and etiquette I have ever encountered. The worst moving company ever! To start the day they were late to show up. When they did arrive, three men loaded up all of my belongings, (I went out and bought them lunch) and we headed to my destination address 60 miles away (or so I thought). As I began driving, I received a call from the business owner Sophia, who said they had to "make a quick stop to pick something up," and then they would be right behind me. Well, three hours later they didn't show up, call, or make any contact with me to inform me about what was happening! My belongings were now missing and I was a nervous wreck! By 7pm I was absolutely infuriated, and I was finally able to reach Sophia by phone. She told me that they SCHEDULED A SECOND JOB near my old address and it took longer than anticipated! I couldn't believe what I was hearing! She went on to tell me, "this is how they keep their costs down." I was so angry! I never (ever) would have authorized my belongings to be taken ANYWHERE other than my personal destination! And I certainly would have paid the extra 100 bucks to a company who was honest and upfront about the plan! Sophia essentially told me she was having a bad day, and if I'd "stop talking" she'd tell me how awful her day was! I had to threaten to call the police to report my belongings MISSING at 8:15pm (pick up was 930am) at which time the truck finally showed up- with one less mover. It was 11pm by the time they finished unloading. They only accepted cash and the workers "weren't authorized" to write me a receipt. Stay far away, this owner couldn't care less about customer service and has zero concern about providing you with a comfortable, decent experience. I actually believe it's probably against the law for them to just take your belongings and literally disappear for several hours! Moving is stressful enough, using this company made moving day a horrible experience for me, I don't want anyone else to experience this absolutely outrageous disregard.
