6/24/20   This…read moremorning I had a chance to ride on a friend's private plane. Here at Manteo Airport, you can have private airplanes, $15 tours our do sky diving....sorry parachuting.  But John, what's the difference? In short, "the main difference between skydiving and parachuting is that in skydiving, we freefall before deploying our parachutes, and in parachuting, we deploy the parachute straight away." Carl took us on a free tour of the area.  I saw the Ocracoke Lighthouse from the air, but now I feel it was the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse because of the black strips.  If I am wrong, than it is the  Bodie Island Lighthouse. Either way, I want to visit this lighthouse, because it is one I have not visited yet. Flying inside of the plane was one of the most relaxing experiences I have had.  I enjoyed hearing the lingo of the pilot and radio tower.  It's a world with a world when you start cracking jokes with the tower. I also noticed how warm the plane got when we were sightseeing.  If we ever jump out of an airplane...and we will, I enjoy doing it with my wife. Seeing the people from 2,500 feet up is an amazing experience.   Jumping out of an airplane from that height will be a test of all tests...this far Great times for 35 minutes of flying.

We really enjoyed our stay at Timothy Tillett Homeplace. Lorraine was a wonderful hostess, and was…read morevery accommodating to our wants and needs. The location is tucked away from all the hustle and bustle of the touristy parts of Outer Banks, but it's only minutes away from everything you would want to do around Manteo and Nags Head. It felt very private. The decorations were so detailed and charming. When you stay you get your own entrance, bathroom, parlor (with table, etc), and a cute porch. There were freshly cut flowers in all the rooms, too. Lorraine is also a wonderful cook! When we were there she had lots of fresh fruit, cake, chocolate-covered strawberries, quiche, Keurig drinks, fruit drinks, and she even has a mini fridge filled with water and iced tea in the parlor. Everything was above and beyond our expectations. We highly recommend it!

I love this place. It was perfect for our labor day weekend getaway. We arrived the Friday before…read morelabor day around 11 am. I knew check in was at 4 pm, but i was hoping it would be ready since you get lucky at times. We checked in and our room was indeed ready. That made me happy. The motel is situated very close to the beach which was a win for us. Our room was ocean side... about 15 steps to the beach. It was very convenient. I loved being able to walk back and forth to the beach from our room for snacks, drinks, etc (the ice machine is right next to the beach too). The room was very clean, spacious, and cozy. The housekeeping was consistent in bringing us what we needed. We were always in the room when they arrived, so we opted for fresh towels and toilet paper. The pool is across the street and was a nice size. The pool was clean and the water was nice. We were close to everything we needed. You have a market, 7-11, tacobell/kfc, a few restaurants within walking distance. Customer service is great...the reception guy let us park there on our last day to enjoy the beach and pool after we checked out. Everyone who works on the grounds is very friendly and accommodating. Motel is clean, and spacious with ample parking. I recommend this place to anyone, and I am definitely coming back here again!

As an annual OBX vacationer, we've stayed in a LOT of different houses, in many different areas…read more This is by far, the biggest one we've stayed in. I wouldn't call it the best, but it's VERY nice! I won't get into the specs like BRs and Baths, etc as you can see those in the listing. There is SO much room, that you can easily have 4 average sized families in the house without ever feeling like you're on top of anyone. Pool is great, tiki bar has sink and fridge, and is a great place to store beach snacks/drinks without lugging a cooler thru the sand, or having to make your way back up to the main house. In the garage is a full sized ice machine, like you would find in a restaurant. So you never need to buy ice. That alone probably saved us well over $200 of buying bagged ice. Only a few things we didn't like. There's a storm drain pipe just to the left of the beach access which they recommend staying 200' away from. There is PLENTY of beach there with no public beach access points tho, so it was never an issue for us. One of the main freezers in the kitchen didn't get cold enough to really deep freeze anything, but the one next to it was fine. They could really use a working can opener!! None of them worked very well, and we almost bought one just to get by. Minor issue until you really need to open the baked beans! And no grill!! We had to rent one for the week for like $60. Overall, it was AWESOME, and we will be looking to rent again next year!

I was worried about ceiling height and sprinkler pipes, but no one hit their head. The inn keepers were super nice. The breakfasts were very tasty. My only wish was that the weather had been warmer. I really wanted to hang out in the lawn, in a hammock or Adirondack chair, to admire all of the fanciful garden pieces that adorned the property. It would have been nice to ride bikes, as well. But again, the wind and cold temps prevented us from fully enjoying all that the inn had to offer. Hope to return one day!

As in picture. Not the quality we got last time. Pastries were held over each day for the next day. By day 3 ? The big thing was you couldn't get coffee until the office was unlocked at 8am. We are early risers and like coffee in am. The other thing was the toilet in our bathroom , room 3 was very low and hard for older people to use. The room was not as clean as I remember in the past. Would I stay again ? I don't know. Were before I would have said definitely.
