Note: this is no reflection, hopefully, of this realty company that she is supposed to represent, so I'm not writing her coworkers off. I wasn't going to write a review of her, as I'm busy packing today and helping out a blind friend. But I feel I would be remiss to not warn others of her curt attitude and downright rudeness in dealing with potential renters and clients, that if this is how she deals with people via phone, I can only imagine what it must be like once a lease is signed and she doesn't need your money. I am only sad that I didn't save ALL our interactions from start to finish, as she scolded me via text yesterday also and I don't have a copy of that. My phone is too full of video to save texts that don't matter much.
I had at least three interactions with her...one in which she set up a weekend appointment that was at her convenience, not mine, then proceeded to change it with no notice nor explanation. This is a problem for me, since I currently am going between three counties. This is also a problem because she was severely upset when I couldn't make it to an appointment yesterday because of an emergency. I chalked it up and contacted her again yesterday to let her know I would be in the city looking at two other places. So I had back-to-back appointments with three other realtors.
I just looked her up on Yelp, and according to her business card, she has a Masters in Education. That's wonderful for her. I don't know if she ever taught ESL like I did, but one thing you learn is language barrier and cultural differences. I tried to keep that in mind when dealing with her. Perhaps English is not her first language and Google is translating for her? One thing they apparently didn't teach her in college nor realty school was tact, and to assume the best about others in business or personal interactions. That's often something we all learn the hard way. I have college education, too, but also military education and more importantly, street smarts and EQ (emotional quotient). One bad interaction from client to salesperson results in negative press. One bad review will negate one hundred "atta boys," as my stepfather used to say.
I see she has a 201 area code. I know many very polite NJ folks, many of them snowbirds or resettled here in Florida. Perhaps she is new from New Jersey to the Deep South, but she would sell and rent more homes if she had more sugar than spice in her demeanor, attitude and business practices.
I've dealt with a lot of realtors in four states over three decades, many of them in New England, and a bad, unhelpful attitude, especially toward new clients and customers, will get you nothing but crickets and an empty pocketbook, from what I've learned from realtor acquaintances and friends.
Everyone has bad days...let's pray for her and her client's sake that this was one of hers. Maybe she is experiencing a family tragedy. I'm a forgiving person but I don't waste time with emotional instability nor scary attitudes in a realtor or salesperson. We all have our own problems and whatever hers is, I hope she gets it settled before she tries to rent out again to anyone. Or perhaps she is like a few of these realtors I have met, who if you are buying a home, they go all out with wining and dining, but if you are a lowly renter, they don't give you the time of the day.
The mistake she made is that I'm more than a potential renter. I'm someone who will be hiring a realtor within a year or two to not only help me find the house of my dreams, but to sell my partner's property as well, should he ever make up his mind if that is what he wants. When I do, the experiences I have garnered through renting, looking at rentals in Tampa Bay, etc. will be invaluable.
One thing I'm not impressed with is anyone-especially people that may be young enough to be my child or grandchild, who is rude in their texts or calls, scolding in attitude, or acts like they are doing YOU a favor. Realtors, especially in this market, can not afford to be rude in any way, even if they perceive they have been stood up or slighted (two relatives of mine completed realty classes and changed careers afterward so I do know a little, and I've had good, bad and everything in between).
