Lovely little café and friendly staff! Simple and cozy for brunch or a really nice cup of coffee. They also offer oat milk as alternative. Of all the coffee shops I visited in Berlin, Isla is one of the best with reasonable price. It's not that busy or crowded and the atmosphere is rather relaxing - you can take your time reading or chatting for quite a while here. Recommend to anyone looking for nice coffee near Hermannplatz!

I do believe my partner and I hit the jackpot choosing an Airbnb in Berlin's Neukölln neighbourhood. There were tons of restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance of our flat. Isla Coffee (IG @islacoffeeberlin) on Hermanstraße was hands down my ultimate favourite from the number of specialty coffee shops we visited during our one week stay in Berlin. The closest U-bahn stop is U8 Bodinstraße; the U7 Rathaus Neukölln is also conveniently close. Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly barista and the heavenly scent of coffee. Yep, in that moment, I knew I was in heaven. Luckily, we made it an hour before they would stop serving brunch (only available on weekends). For coffees, we each got a Piccolo with oat milk (Oatly) for an extra €0.30. One of the things I LOVE about living in Europe is the fact that vegan milk is inexpensive. Here in LA, almond/soy/oat/hemp milk is an extra $1 at most places; you're lucky if it's less than a buck. Moving on, for brunch, we devoured three items: cardamom pastry (delicious); sourdough toast (from local Albatross Bakery) topped with housemade butter and rosemary salt and a side of two perfectly poached eggs; vegetarian chilaquiles. Everything was utterly delicious. Isla Coffee is not to be missed if you're in Neukölln/Kreuzberg. The workers are all friendly and speak English. Such a delight of a specialty coffee shop with an inviting and warm interior and A+ coffee. I'll be sure to pay them another visit when I'm back.

I don't think the microfoam held up well in the paper cup. I didn't get a chance to do a pour over but they seemed to be popular. They sell coffee roasted in-house. Depending on which roast you purchased, you could get some really fresh coffee. Some bags were marked as being roasted just a few days earlier but some were two weeks old. I was drawn in the first time with their pastries display. They each looked so pretty. I ordered the strawberry tart. To be honest, I thought it was going to be strawberry cheesecake. I should have asked first! Instead, it was a strawberry gelatinous cream filling. The chocolate cake base was not rich enough to stand out next to the strawberry filling. I enjoyed the look of it much more than the taste of it. I've heard that the vegan chocolate cake is really the cafe's star dessert, so I'll have to try that the next time that I'm in the neighborhood. I've never struggled to find seating, since it's ~2 blocks north of Kotti on Adalbertstr. The service can be unfriendly, which doesn't really match the look and feel of the cafe. It really depends on who is working, whether they're busy doing something else, and what language you order in. The first time that I visited, I ordered in German and the employee (possibly owner) looked really annoyed. Afterwards, I only ordered in English. The prices are typical of an upscale cafe.

Berlin has many great cafés, with just a handful serving truly great coffee, but Kaffekirsche really has the best-tasting brews I've had so far. The espresso is excellent, but what really got me are the roasts that they HAND-FILTER for you. The flavors are fantastic--especially the Brazil. On the food--decent belegte brötchen, amazingly delicious Rhabarber Tarte. Seriously. Try it while it's in season. The staff--some of the friendliest people in the Kiez. Very knowledgable too! The atmosphere--fresh, simple, relaxed. They don't provide WiFi, which I actually like. (If you really need to work, Mundvoll is next door. Same owners, same quality of great food.) It's a place where you can really enjoy the flavors of your coffee and the company around you.
