For starters, my lack of Danish made reading and understanding the menu pretty darn difficult, so I was reassured by my very patient waitress as she helped to translate it until I found a vegetarian/fish dish. Per her recommendation, I decided on the pumpkin soup and salmon smorrebrød. When the soup came out, I took one bite and realized it was NOT pumpkin soup. It was some sort of meat soup. I sat for a while twiddling my thumbs, wishing I had a bottle of wine rather than one glass, wondering if I should just respectfully eat it and deal with the stomach ache that would potentially follow, or if I should continue my role as the obnoxious American and send it back. Due to my immense fear of vomit I opted for the latter. When I asked if it had meat, the food runner sort of chuckled. I thought: "Ok yes sir, I know there are hunks of animal flesh in there I just don't know how to navigate this situation." I felt really bad but I could tell he did too. He apologized profusely for the mixup and brought out my pumpkin soup (sidebar: the soup came out in a Mini saucepan. How cute). The seafood here is very fresh, seasoned well and presented beautifully to make sure you eat with your eyes first! They brought the outside in and the inside out at this waterfront restaurant, the floors inside are covered in sand to make it feel like you are just stepping inside a food/bar hut right on the beach. The deck seating area is very big, covered from the elements and also has portable electric heaters as well as fleece blankets are available at every table top to keep you warm as you enjoy the view and food. Will definitely be back when visiting the beaches of Skagen!

Pretty standard tourist place…read more My girlfriend and I visited this place for lunch after a 5 hour drive from Copenhagen. We were both starving and ordered two "Stjerneskud" with a couple of Saaz Blondes. Now, Skagen lies very close to the ocean and has a great harbor. Thus the fish was very fresh. But the dish was rather boring. The shrimps were small and were placed next to the dish instead of incorporated. The asparagus were cut in small pieces, which were a shame seeing as they were rather fresh. The halibut was not well tasting and the dressing was tasteless. The dish was also stuffed with lettuce, which made the dish even worse. All of this was placed on a piece of very dry and hard bread. As you might have noticed this was not one of my better food experiences. So why the three stars? Well, the service was very polite and the atmosphere was cosy. And I almost fell of my chair when they offered us free coffee and cake for dessert. The price was pretty standard for a tourist place. One beer was 55 kr. and the "Stjerneskud" was 130 kr. All over a rather pleasant experience even though the food was very mediocre.
