SMART Plumbing Hawaii

From start to finish, we had an amazingly smooth and delightful plumbing experience!…read more Smart Plumbing Hawaii was: Prompt * Professional * Knowledgeable * Friendly * Fast. Every interaction we had, whether it was in-person, on the phone, or by email was handled with excellent customer service. They were always on-time, and any follow-up questions I had were answered quickly. Smart Plumbing Hawaii is family run business done right! Thanks Lei + Gabe you are the greatest! OUR STORY... We saw their truck driving around town, wrote down their name and went online to check them out. We found their great website, which answered most of our questions, so we shot them an email to see if they were up to tackling our unusual project. We bought a TOTO model: TMF47 (Japanese Bath/Shower combo with tub filler + thermostat) while we were in Japan and needed it installed. Most plumbers we talked to had never seen one, and were hesitant to help us. (And, of course all the specs + instructions were in Japanese). After a few emails and pictures, Gabe was willing to take a look at our bathroom and our new TOTO bath/shower combo, to see if it was possible. It was, and a week later our new faucet was installed and working like a dream! It is so much more fun to take a bath + shower now! We will absolutely do business with them again in the future and would whole heartedly recommend them to friends & family. We look forward to calling them again when we install our dishwasher and upgrade our other bathroom. Smart Plumbing Hawaii is a true pleasure to do business with and a real asset to the Islands! With Warmest Aloha! D + A

As you can see from my prior review, my earlier experiences with SMART Plumbing have been happy,…read moreand they became my go-to plumber. This week they trashed all that goodwill, and I'm genuinely shocked. I called Thursday morning about a stopped-up kitchen drain. The very polite, British-sounding man who took my information (possibly an outside phone message service) said he would pass it along and asked me to text a photo of the problem, which I immediately did. Then... silence. Usually they're pretty fast about getting back to me, even if it's to say they won't be able to come out for a day or two. So on Friday morning I called again. The same polite gentleman again promised to relay the message, and to tell them this was my second call. Then... more silence. In desperation, that afternoon I went onto their website and used the chat feature. Here, someone did respond, telling me that they had no plumbers at present and were trying to hire someone, but for now "we're at a standstill." I apparently would never have known this without using the online chat. So far as I can tell, I would have been left dangling indefinitely. When I asked why they couldn't have their phone answerer tell people they are temporarily not booking jobs due to staffing issues, the person chatting -- definitely a live person, not a bot -- had no answer other than an apology and a "mahalo for your past business." Come on folks, this is ridiculous. It ALWAYS works better to tell people the truth. I may try them again sometime, but not for a while.

The museum is spectacular, and the house is so exciting and interesting to see. But the tour of the…read morehouse, Bruce, was unbearably over-enthusiastic. He would rant and use voices imitating other previous guests (presumably?) and bounced from topic to topic, rushing us through the house so fast that you hardly get any time to look at anything. He opened our conversation by saying how, "contrary to popular belief, the natives are not heathens." What a great start... Though he was contradicting hateful sentiments, I felt the tour didn't need to be embellished with such commentary, and the history of the missionary relationship to the Kanaka Māoli as a colonial project of theft and religious pressure was glazed over..

After experiencing the Panaewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens (please reference my review if…read moreinterested), we made the 18 minute drive to Lyman Museum. I must admit, when Google Maps announced our arrival, I was skeptical of the museum based on the appearance of the building. However, that feeling dissipated when we entered the building and were greeted by a friendly employee at the front counter. After paying the very small admission fee, another friendly employee gave us a brief overview of how to navigate the exhibits. The first exhibit was centered on one of my favorite childhood interests...volcanoes! I was taking a walk down memory lane as I relearned the root cause of volcanic eruptions and the history of Hawaii's active volcanoes. Afterwards, we learned about the various habitat types, mammals, and birds. The next following exhibits were focused on Hawaii's complicated (in my opinion) history. Although all of the content was interesting to some capacity; the following three topics stood out: sugar plantations, the educational system, and the annexation of Hawaii by the United States. Although the information is presented in an unbiased form, it shaped my opinion of how native Hawaiians (along with other ethnic groups) were mistreated, the United States' role in attempting to completely sanitize the Hawaiian education system (i.e., being punished for speaking their native language in school), and the events that led to the Hawaiian government being overthrown by the United States. As most museums, I walked away with mixed feelings. I learned a lot about Hawaiian culture, but also felt torn in my decision to visit (support) a place that has been essentially cleansed of its true culture and taken over by Americans (yes I know that there are other places that have been similarly impacted). I highly recommend that visitors take the time out of their vacation to visit this museum and enlighten themselves with Hawaiian history.

I understand libraries are known as 'quiet' places. But these should also be safe places for children. This is a free place for children to come for parents and families who may be low income and deserve to have access to resources such as these. I'm DISGUSTED at the level of disrespect and abuse that has been directed towards parents in this space by Gretchen. It is abuse to talk to anyone in the manner in which she has and is completely unacceptable and inappropriate. Especially in the presence of children... I was astonished to hear that so many people have similar experiences and that is absolutely unacceptable. We want to share the Aloha experience with everyone and want to make everyone feel comfortable and SAFE bringing their children to a PUBLIC LIBRARY. This situation is sick and needs to be addressed. Disappointed is an understatement.

A beautiful, open-air courtyard is at center. The birds seem to love it almost as much as I. A surrounding lanai has lots of seating, including an area with tables. A large meeting room is available by reservation for community groups. On approaching the building, patrons are greeted by a banner promoting the free WiFi access within.

Art is such a professional and skilled repairman that I've actually put off writing this review…read morebecause I selfishly wanted to keep him for ourselves- ( knowing that when people read this, he'll be booked SOLID!) Ha! We first encountered Art when he took a referral from our home warranty company years ago. Since then, if my husband can't manage something, we call Art! He is "good peeps" through and through.. And just a few of the jobs he's tackled for us are: painting, laying tile, wood construction, installing and building cabinets, fixing a shower wall leak--I sometimes wonder if there's anything he CAN'T do!!!! So I'm going to do the right thing and share him with you. He often arrives with his trusty steed ( Dalmation dog,"Terk,") by his side! Terk is the nicest, smartest dog I've ever met and he remains in Art's van with food, water and chew toys until his Dad if finished. Oh... and Art's fees are more than reasonable! So there you go--I hope this answers your need for help--but don't "hog him" OKAY?!!!!!

Website states they provide 24/7 service, but the owner was extremely reluctant to help because it was "his day off." He treated me like I was a HUGE inconvenience and wasting his time. I sent him some pictures of the broken pump as per his request. Of course, while trying to find the information he needed on the pump, he treated me like I was an idiot. I told him to take his time as it was New Years Day, and didn't want to pressure him. I drove into town and my text messaging was off for only about 30 minutes. Next thing I know, the owner is literally SCREAMING and CURSING at me by text. Yes, you heard it... cursing at me. What kind of business owner CURSES at his new customers?! I have never experienced such an unprofessional behavior, lazy attitude, and atrocious service in my life. This guy needs a lesson in professionalism and manners. I'm actually glad he didn't actually come and attempt repairs - he probably would have created a huge mess, and tried to overcharge or blame his customers. What a mess of a business this guy is! As other reviews have said...do yourself a favor and find another company. Worst service ever! Like Share
