Since the layer of ice is not very thick, warm weather can be more destructive than for other rinks in the city. But during a cold spell there is nothing more beautiful than gliding around the island along the St. Laurent and watching sheets of ice swim past in front of the splendid panorama of downtown Montreal on the opposite shore. Speakers along the way accompany the aspiring ice princess with classical music. The rink seems remote but is very accessible since it is only a short walk away from Jean-Drapeau metro. Lockers for boots are available - bring your own lock. Oh, and did I mention that all of this is free?

Parents and fans had no idea what was happening on the ice. Even the players mentioned they couldn't see clearly. Then, the fog finally cleared -- but then the scoreboard stopped working! No time, no score, nothing. The kids were playing without any clue how much time was left or what the score was. Honestly, it felt a bit like a comedy show. It's hard to believe this is the official practice facility for the NHL Montreal Canadiens.

I remember growing up…read moreas a young boy playing hockey in Western Canada and we would rarely see the Winnipeg Jets practicing at a local arena or a AAA team and it would be something unbelievably cool. Like rock star cool.... especially for someone growing up playing and appreciating the game. Young kids must feel the same way here. Multiple rinks, a Canadiens retail store and other sports related facilities make up this big complex. Anytime you can play the game where the greats play or practice is a cool thing!

The parking lot was full so people were parking on the street, no problem since it's not downtown or anything. When we walked in there was a waiver on an iPad to enter your personal info, the form was tedious and I noticed people just gave up as did I. Free for kids under 4!! Despite the full parking lot it was orderly inside and everyone was thankfully going in the same direction (counter clockwise) There are some small ramps along the track in the inner loop. My son got a boo boo and they had a box of free and aids. They also have another large room for advanced ramps for the bigger kiddos who are more adventurous. Tip: If you want to ride next to your child, bring some roller blades or a scooter so you can catch up with him but don't forget your helmet (mandatory for kids and adults)

The place looked so funn...basically an iced over pond in the middle of fountain park! The ice didn't look to be the most maintained (skating could be challenging), but there was such a wonderful crowd embracing winter around here. So if you come here - just be aware you may need to bring your own skates (double check the rental times). You can also bring a snow tube to enjoy some hills in the park after you're done skating!

This place is magical; it's right in the middle of the park and is a close walk to everywhere in Le…read morePlateau. The ice surface was perfect for an afternoon of skating with people of all ages and skill levels. The music was nice, the trees and benches in the middle provided a great place to rest and to people watch and the beer inside when you're done is only 4,50$. The best part is, the skating is free and there's lots of parking if you need it. Bring your own lock for the locker and come on down. The rink is open until 10pm.
