Great place for a pint! We were walking around the square in Cahir after checking into our hotel looking for a cool local place to unwind. We came across this gem! We stepped up to the bar and ordered my favorite beer, Carlsberg. I so wish we could buy this at home. I've found one place in Tennessee that carries it on draft sometimes. The nice young lady at the bar hooked us up with the beer and WI-FI password. We found the most comfortable couch to sit and relax. There is a beer garden outside that looked really cool. Smoking is permitted out there which is cool for smokers but we opted for the smoke free inside and had an enjoyable evening. read more

Great place. Right on the square. There was a band playing in the next room so we grabbed a seat at the bar no problem. Younger crowd....way younger crowd but they were fun and no trouble. I prefer old man bars myself but this place did the trick. The vodka Lucozades were flowing like the River Laune. read more

An excellent place to relax and socialize with a pint or two.... or a coffee after visiting the many Historic Sites in and Around Cahir and hiking the Galtees. This pub has been lovingly restored by the current owner(s) to reflect Cahir's heritage. The live music is fantastic. read more

Visited several times in May while on vacation in Cahir. This pub has a great atmosphere. It's what you imagine a traditional Irish pub to be - friendly, lively and Guinness to die for! A fixture in the center of town since 1890, when it was a coaching inn for the Bianconi stage coach, Irwins was reopened in March after being extensively and sympathetically refurbished. The place oozes history and ambience - from the old local photographs on the walls (check out the one of Paddy Dalton holding aloft the monster salmon caught in the River Suir!) to the multitude of historic artifacts hung on the walls or casually sitting on shelves (antique bottles, earthenware jars, farm implements etc). There are some quirkier items as well (like the old motorcycle suspended from the ceiling). The place is well worth a visit for the decor and olde worlde ambience alone. It is like stepping back in time. But for all its historic charm this is a thoroughly modern and lively place - especially at the weekend when it seems to be THE place to be. The Sunday night I was there it was packed and rocking with young and old enjoying the live music and the craic. The band Reverse the Hearse was so good that many were unable to contain themselves, getting out on the floor for an impromptu dance.
