Each week the instructor teaches a new lesson, comprising various poses, breathing exercises, core work, relaxation, and some lore. Students learn and grow in their practice, according to their individual ability. While advanced techniques and options are often introduced, each class is suitable for students of any level. Beginners welcome. A typical class starts with centering, then a gentle warm up series, followed by various standing and kneeling poses, and a few gentle movement sequences. Then some balancing poses, core toning, breathing exercises, and a sitting meditation. Students progress through a series of asanas, incorporating twists and meditation. I really like this Y location. Being a member of the Y in Rockford has a lot of great benefits, one…read morebeing that there are convenient locations on every side of town. We don't come here as often as the other locations, but when we do I'm always pleasantly surprised at how chill it is and easy to navigate, especially compared to the downtown y (that y can be a little intimidating and overcrowded at times, but they also offer many more things). This location offers kid care 8-11:30am Monday-Saturday and 4-7pm Monday-Thursday. Love that we can drop our kids off and workout in peace for a while, and our little kids love the toys in there. Everything is kept nice and clean, and there is a good amount of weight and cardio equipment for the space. I also like the "break room" in the back to chill for a few minutes after my workout. Would definitely recommend!

I've talked extensively with the current owner David Walker as well as trained with him for the last few months. My children have also trained with him for the same amount of time. Two coworkers I've known for almost a decade have trained with David as well. His training is tier one as the classes are a good mix of intensity, technique as well as background information as to why you do what you do. I leave each class as if I have learned something new I can apply as well as improved my skills on previously learned material. So, the training is A plus and better than any other martial arts groups I have trained with in the past. David is excellent with my kids who look forward to class each week as well as excitedly show me what they have learned as well as beg me to show them what was done in my class. It is a great time for them to work on discipline, confidence and mindset as well as balance, flexibility and strength. This is the best extracurricular investment I've made for them. Lastly, I want to say David is a man of integrity and encouragement. He has kept his word and made sure I've maximized my learning opportunities. The folks in the class are terrific and some of the more experienced students have been extremely helpful in keeping an eye on me and correcting things when David is with another student. I wish I had found this group earlier and started sooner, but as David says "We're starting now." Join us.

I always liked the idea of boxing or kickboxing but never gave it a try. I had the option of going to a closer gym or this gym which to me is a 20 minute drive compared to a 5 minute drive. I've never been glad to take a 20 minute ride to a gym that makes me feel at home. The relationship that I built with the people in this gym is incredible everyone treats you like family and make sure you are enjoying yourself. If you don't understand something they will help you out and not make you feel like you're alone on this. Most of all coming into a MMA gym sounds intimidating but it's far from it. I'll never regret making this decision. I'm excited every single day to go to the gym and I never felt that before.
