This campground is fantastic for the family camper or older couples going with friends. The campground offers many free amenities that you would normally pay for or have to bring yourself at most other campgrounds. This includes rental of volley balls, basketballs, soccer balls, ladder toss, and horseshoes. You do have to sign them out and include your lot number and they must be returned before the store closes but that is a small trade for a service that's not offered almost anywhere else. There is a small pond near the front store where you can use paddle boats at no cost and is stocked regularly with smaller fish, perfect for casual fishing. If you're a little more serious you can fish at the lake at the back of he campground and rent (for free) paddles to go out on the lake with the rowboats provided for you by the campground. There's a nice pool that's relative to the size of the campground thats kept cleanThere's a children's playscape that includes a set of swings, three slides, monkey bars, a merry go round. For the older kids there's tether ball and a beach volleyball court, all within a stones throw of many of the campsites. There's a game room that features many classic arcade games, ping pong, a billiards table, chess and checkers, various assorted board games, and a classic styles jukebox that manages to capture modern and classic music all in one. The activities director and the owners are all incredibly hands on at the camp and there's usually something always going on. Just over memorial weekend there was a game of BINGO on Saturday and Sunday, a free scavenger hunt around the campground, and an ice cream social for a dollar. My only qualms with the campground are the bathrooms but there is only so much a few people can do when it is the patrons who are ruining the bathrooms for themselves and everyone else. Overall, the campground is excellent and yes, there are rules, but these are rules that are not exceedingly hard to follow, nor easy to break. This is a quality campground and it's a great place that even if the features provided for you aren't enough, there's so much to do outside of the campground. Antiquities, flea markets, farmers markets, wineries, and a plethora of lakes and hiking trails available for those who look. Irish Hills Kampground is an amazing mix of old and new, rustic and modern, and the experience is most definitely what you make of it. read more

We came to visit our friends that were camping here, as we live locally. I had never heard of this campground before, but I'm glad I know about it now. The owners are super nice! There's plenty to do, there are nice shaded sites. It's really family friendly, so I'm definitely bringing my grandkids back here to camp!! We used to stay at this campground when I was younger with my family. I've not been here for 18 or so years, so we when we looked for a place to camp memorial day, we figured we'd give it a try. The campground has a good amount of things to do - the pool is recently renovated and really nice. The playground has a lot to do. There are games and activities you can get for free at the camp store. There is a large lake you can take row boats on, as well as paddle boats. All of these activities are free, although some require you to leave a license. The game room could use a refresh - it's funny, when I used to stay as a kid I would have made the same comment - that the game room could use a refresh. Additionally, some of the playground equipment is aging, but it's perfectly serviceable. When I did my research after booking, I almost cancelled - lots of posts of bad times and rules. What I'll say is the following: If you think the rules might cause you issues, it's probably not the campground for you. The rules are mostly benign (No walking openly with alcohol, no loud music after 10, etc), and make it very family friendly. This is not the place to have a weekend bender after attending a race at MIS. I actually like that in a campground. We will certainly be back, as we had a wonderful time, and the kids did too. This is a very nice family friendly campground. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the sites are a bit on the smaller side. They fit my 23' travel trailer without issue, but we're spoiled by the giant sites you get at most state parks. Additionally, the bathrooms need modernized a bit. They weren't bad, but they tended to be wet most of the day due to use. There were signs indicating that were remodelling. TL;DR - Will stay again - had a wonderful time. The rules are only an issue if you want to have a crazy party, which isn't what the campground wants to be. read more

Despite the other review I read about this place, my wife and I decided to try it anyway. First off - we had NO ISSUES. We were given the rules in advance and they were quite clear. Our needs are pretty minimal. We just want a quiet place, to not be disturbed and everything needs to work properly. Irish Hills Kampground met those expectations. The setting was really decent. There were plenty of trees and the size of the space was fine for us. As a matter of fact, the space we originally selected online was hidden in the back and pretty difficult to get to. SO - the kind lady running the desk offered us another space which was bigger and easier to maneuver our rig into. We have a 30 ft. 5th wheel. The roads throughout the campground are a bit narrow and if you're a novice driver you will have to take it slow. When first arriving, a kind worker assisted us in getting to our site and making sure we were able to set up properly. Admittedly, there are a ton of rules which are given to you upon entry. They are written in a pretty aggressive, unwelcoming manner. However, we NEVER saw a single person from the campground the entire time we were there. Nobody bothered us - NOT ONCE. We did buy some wood from them ($6 a bunch) which was no problem. All in all, if you're looking for a quiet spot to spend some quality family time, this may be the place for you. One other thing - the lake is not a lake. It's a pond (my wife called it a bog). It's probably only good for little kids to play in. read more

After two decades of camping this is the WORST place I've ever stayed. Had 3 campsites with three generations of campers. We were treated very disrespectfuly. The events listed on the website do NOT happen. The lake is not good, dock is not safe. Nothing is taken care of. Game room is a joke. Cabins are held together with duct tape. Feral cats roam around and are fed by the owners. Don't put children in the bunk beds in the cabins because they are not safe. Dont bring any books as the Nazi owners may attempt to burn them. read more

We decided to come camping here because my aunt and uncle come up every year. The campsites themselves are decent but some are extremely small. If we had neighbors next to us that would have been awful. They have very high prices in the store ($6 per bundle of wood). They have a game room which is cool but when the change machine ate my son's dollar they told him he had to call a number to get a refund... what?! The row boats are a joke and the "pond" for the paddle boats is very tiny. The playground equipment has not been updated since the 70's and the putt putt is a joke. The lady that runs the store is rude and freaked out when kids were jumping in the pool... we had a good weekend spending time together but we won't come back. read more

Worst human beings I have ever met. I tried to take my 10 year old camping here. Despite the negative reviews I wanted to give them a chance. I was greeted upon entry from the old lady. She walked us in and proceeded to explain that this was a holiday weekend and that it was $45 not $30. The date was August 11th 2018. Not a holiday weekend. Apparently the nascar race was going on and they consider nascar a holiday. I drove over an hour to get to this campground and looked on their website prior to going. There was and still isn't a list of what they consider to be their holidays. After questioning the lady about the weekend and the fact that there was nothing on their website about which weekend were holiday weekends she threatened to call the police on my son and I. It was a wonderful experience trying to explain to my son what had just transpired. Either way I personally recommend staying away from the Irish hills kampground. By the way Campground is spelt with a C. That should have been my first indicator of the inbred backwoods set up ma and pa kettle had gone no on. Don't waste your time find a nicer campground. Campsites are small. We had to ask to be moved to a different site and all we had was a tent. There was no room. Bathrooms were disgusting. My wife complained and they said "Yeah, we have had a lot of complaints about that." 6 hours later they mopped and put out toilet paper. Their excuse was that people were stealing the toilet paper. Playground is old. Paddle boats are broken. I believe the owners have the best of intentions, however execution is lacking. We will find another place to go. read more

Aweful campground!!! We stayed there on Labor Day Weekend of 2013 and it was the worst camping experience EVER! We camp a lot too, so we see plenty of campgrounds. The bathrooms were filthy, pool was nasty, put put golf, lol.......... if you want to call it that was run down. The sites are mostly dirt and small. The train ride was rusty and dirty. We had a small mini fridge outside of our camper on a table and we were told it had to be removed or she would call the cops. The "fishing lake and boats" lol............ well, it is a swamp and the boats I am not sure even float, no paddles either. Now to get started on the management.......... I should have known something was weird at check in when she asked for my drivers license and made a copy of it. I have nothing to hide, but I have never had a campground ask for my drivers license and make a copy of it, lol! SERIOUSLY??? She had a million pages of rules, most were really absurd. And she was rude.......... if we hadn't already paid and could have gotten a refund we would have left!!! She would drive around on her golf cart with a purple folder and harass people. We sat up by the pool and struck up a conversation with some others camping and they said no way would they ever come back. We did have a good time amongst ourselves at our campsite as we made the best of it but I would not recommend this campground to ANYONE!!! read more

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! The owners care more about money then their guest. We have been going to this campground for over 13 years and will never return. The new owners give you a 3 page list of rules!!! The pool is green in color, no one swimming in it. We used the online booking system and we paid in full, when we arrived we were told we owed $16 more dollars and was not offered a full refund if decided to leave. We had to pay more to stay, after we already had paid in full!!! The bathrooms are dirty, I took a shower and felt dirtier after I had the shower!!! Trust ME.. We had a Seasonal site for 2014, loved it.I really don't know why all the bad reviews. My kids had fun and i got some piece . the camp ground is clean, quiet. weekends they have extra people there to patrol the camp ground. They have Leveled most of the sites. 4th of July was a blast with fire works and activities for the kids. This is a nice family Campground. There are Shade sites which are of course under the trees with sandy soil. And they also have Sunny sites were the Grass is. Bathroom was always clean and stocked. They have 2 huge open fields were the kids can run and play. the Lake is nice and the paddle boat pond it fun, but the paddle boat are only meant for 2..lol And the pool was a nice extra activity. If you need wood you can just prepay and they drive it right to your site for you. cute little store and always had ice. The Owners were always nice and polite to us and helpful. Staying again in 2015 we liked the fact on busy weekends they would monitor who was in the park and keep an eye out.. read more

My daughter and I had a great time camping this weekend! She loved the train ride, hay ride, coloring contest and lived in the beautiful blue pool. WOW! Where do I start? This place is horrible. We reserved a RV site for 2 nights over 4th of July. We only stayed 1. Being an RV site, we thought we would have plenty of room for our pop-up. Well think again. The sites are tiny and very close together. We had to put our pop up on an angle a little over the neighbors in order for it to fit. We were so close that we could hear the normal conversations going on at nearby camp fires, word for word. They do have 4 free row boats, but only have 2 sets of paddles. So you never get to use them. Or if you do the "lake" is tiny and no fish. It is more like a swamp to float around in. They do have a game room but you may want to bring your own games. We overheard the woman owner talking to a young boy. He asked for a ping pong ball and she demanded him to crawl around on the floor and search all corners. Really for a ping pong ball that costs $1 for a 4 pack? Speaking of the owner, when you check in she will give you 4 pages of rules and you better read them. If you for any reason accidentally break a rule she will threaten to call the cops. She runs the campground like a prison camp. Do not expect to have fun; it is not in the rule book. She did not call the cops on us but we heard her threaten it. We called the campground before booking it due to the bad reviews and asked her about it. She said they were from people who have been escorted out by the police. We thought maybe it was a rowdy crowd from MIS, but my guess is she calls the cops weekly. DO NOT STAY HERE! read more

Where do I start. This is the worst campground we have ever stayed at. The owners were very rude and unfriendly. The rules were unbelievable. They actually wanted us to wear a paper wrist band the whole weekend. The website showed a beautiful lake. The lake was a foot and a half deep thru the whole lake. The camp sites were very small. The roads in the campground were very narrow. We will never be back. They need to understand if you want good people to come back you need to treat them with respect. I am a family man with 2 children. My wife and I were looking for an inexpensive retreat for camping as a last hurrah for summertime before the kids returned to school. We researched many campgrounds in Michigan (Irish Hills area) only to find that after paying for your site, you also had to pay for any extras that your family would like to participate in. While searching for a budget minded, family friendly campground, we came across Irish Hills Kampground and I am glad we did! We came on a Thursday. Checked in at 3 and set up camp. All day Friday, there were very few people here and we used the pool, which is clean and freshly painted, sealed, and well taken care of! As for the amenities, you can't beat free!! Many different outdoor activities, a play ground that may need some improvement, but I would not be afraid to let my children play on it. Would have loved to use the paddle boats, but since there has been no rain in this area this summer, the pond was a bit low through no fault of the owners. The game room is well stocked with an assortment of coin operated arcade games, as well as board games to use for free and a ping pong table which regardless what other reviews say, is free, there are 6 paddles and 3 balls out in the open at all times! You do have to pay 50 cents for the pool table and the air hockey game but you would pay that at a bar too! The sites, that everyone says are small, are clearly listed by size on the booking site so you should check the size before booking your site then you have nothing to complain about. I stayed here 3 nights just two weeks ago and enjoyed it so much, I am now on my last night of a 4 night stay and have had no problems whatsoever!! In short I would like to say say that Randy and Lynn, the owners, are two of the nicest people I have ever met and after knowing them only 2 weeks, I would be proud to consider them as family!! In my opinion, if more families would ignore the bs reviews that people who choose not to follow the rules post and come here anyway, Randy and Lynn could have the nicest family friendly campground in the area and it could be the best kept secret in cheap family vacations ever! read more

Lynn one of the owners is very rude and disrespectful. We had tiki torches stuck 3-4 inches in ground and she told us we couldn't have them. When asked why she said because we can't have nothing stuck in the ground except tent stakes. Although we have a camper. When we brought it to her attention others have them she blew it off saying it's in the rules and we had to remove them. Even though it is not stated in the 3 pages of rules anywhere.We also had flags hanging from our awning and was told we couldn't have them as well. We had all of these things last year and it was fine. Lynn is very unorganized and very unprofessional. I took two of my nephew's with me for a couple nights as they helped build one of their cabins they each put in approximately 20 hours and they did this free of charge. They didn't even get a thank you but Lynn did complain because they had a few beers at our camper inside the camper and they didn't leave the camper. They both are of age. She also made them park in the over flow parking because you can only have one vehicle at a site. Would not have been a problem if they didn't have all their tools in their vehicle and there was only one other site occupied. They had to walk a good 1/4 mile to the car and then back with tools. If you're looking to pay for harassment, look no further! Where do i begin... the owners need to find another idea for retirement because they are NOT camper friendly. More like they're on a power trip and losing control. The place was basically empty which left time for them to harass us. Sitting at the fire, just 2 of us at the time reading and the owner raked leaves with a loud metal rake all around us for a good 45 minutes then while finally leaving us to the peace and quiet we were trying to enjoy he rudely tells us we better take care of our floor mat from the picnic table next to us because it's not our table. Lynn actually told our kids to kill any bullfrogs because they were annoying. They leave cats running around the place pooing and peeing wherever and getting into your stuff. Yelled at our kids for getting on one another's shoulders in the pool and said that was horse playing and it wasn't allowed. I understand rules, but they are very rude people and act like breathing is a crime. We also were scolded for tying a rope to the trees because it will kill the tree yet they post signs into the trees. We took it down and never had an attitude about it, but wonder why they didn't mention it while stalking us during the day and felt the need to come by at 11pm to say something. They said our kids were destructive because they left their bar soap in the shower room. Really, I can't make this stuff up. The place has potential if only it had fitting owners. We still made a good time of it by leaving the site for the day to the beach nearby to get away from the babysitters. I will never go back, too many camp grounds around that you'll enjoy far better, trust me. Don't waste your money. read more

Been RVing for over 30 years and by far my worst experience ever. Watch their campground map it is woefully inaccurate. Looks like huge sites until you get there to realize that half the sites aren't on the map. Most parks list size by pad size for the RV, their sites are actual lot sizes. I had a pull thru site and my truck camper went from bumper to bumper on the road. Site had no picnic table or fire ring, we were told "just share with neighbors", I saw their picnic table that they weren't using because it was half rotted, and caked with dirt. First you get there and have to sign a 15 page contract of rules, and by the way you have to wear this wrist band for your entire stay! Makes you feel like a convict on work release when you go out to any local areas attractions/restaurant's wearing one of these bright blue wristbands. Drove around the campground twice just to find the site, half the sites don't have numbers (ours had one of two), and when they do have them they aren't necessarily sequential, and jump all over the place. Site was listed as 30 amp, but was only 15. We were not allowed to park our car on the site with our camper, (not that there was room anyway). My wife and handicapped daughter were forced to leave the car in their overflow parking at the road and walk 1/4 mile back to the site. We paid for 3 days, and by the first morning, after listening to the campground owner berate one of the campers a couple sites down from us for having a visitors car on their site, we decided to go elsewhere. It appears to be a common practice at this campground of the management to constantly cruise around the campground on their golf cart and harass their guests, I saw this more than once in our 16 hour stay there. I want to make it perfectly clear that I personally had no direct negative interaction with the campground management, we left because we just felt we couldn't relax and enjoy our stay with a constant watching eye over us. Bug infested. Small campsites, campgrounds run down, owner not friendly, pool not taken care of and dirty, sites not level. Very few 30 amp sites and according to the owner, if you use the 20 amp service the circuit breaker trips if the air conditioning is used at the same time as the microwave. They will not let you bring in fire wood because other people's potential bugs are not as nice as their bugs. This campground is understaffed and not kept up. Avoid it - there are many other good choices in the area. read more

It was hard for me to believe that this was a KOA at one time. When I was trying to find my site, I couldn't even find the roads, the sites and the roads look the same, nothing but dust. When I was trying to get to my site I ran over a tree stump that was in the road and broke my sewer line that I had to repair. My suggestion, keep driving. read more

I camped here while I was a child for over 15 years. Me and my friends rented about 10 sights for my birthday over Memorial Day weekend. The owner and her "rent a cop" security were very rude! They came by and told us to turn the radio down when the people acrossed the road from us were super loud! She also hassled us the entire time we were there! The camp ground was very empty for a holiday weekend also we had about 15-20 children with us, they came by and told us we had to pick up all the children's toys they were not allowed to play on neighboring campsites that were not being rented. They also take your drivers license to be able to rent paddles for the rowboat. Also they demanded we rent a ping pong ball to be able to play on a table where the paddles were absolutely destroyed, when the lady asked me why they rent them out I responded with "so people do not play beer pong"? She halted the conversation right there and got an attitude with me and said there will be absolutely no beer pong on the premises or the cops will be called!! I highly recommend if you want to go camping do not go here your better off camping in your own back yard!!!! read more

DO NOT STAY HERE!! My husband and I, with our daughter and son-inlaw and our 2 granddaughters, age 2 1/2 and 10 months old visiting. We booked a site for a week, came in on Friday evening and while setting up on a ridiculously cramped site, the owners came up on their spy-mobile cart and accused me of trying to jip them out of money and Lynn the owner was very rude! Held my tongue! Woke up in the morning and saw in the day light to realize how cramped our site was and Lynn moved us to a lager site, no problem! The kids helped us move and after we were set up, we parked the kids van on lot next to us that was empty along with all the sites around us! We had to ring a doorbell and wait to have pool unlocked everytime! Lynn came to the pool and told us that the site the van was isn't ours and we couldn't park there and needed moved to overflow in front of park, so had to get out of the pool to move it!! Held my tongue! Then my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter jumped in the pool and Lynn came to pool and asked us rudely if we can read and pointed at sign!! Held my tongue! Park was pretty much empty on Saturday and by Sunday we were the only ones camping!! We parked my daughter's van on our site with our truck when she came to visit. Again at pool with kids and told we can only have one vehicle per site and we needed to move it! Lynn left the park and we proceeded to swim, not like it is a huge deal. Got back to and everyone changed and I had keys in hand and Lynn comes up and says that this is our second warning and I told her my keys were in my hand, she rudely says that had time to go to the store and talk to Randy, so we had plenty of time to move it, but we knew she was gone and couldn't enforce the rule!! I stayed rudely to Lynn that I am sick of being harassed and made to feel unwelcome!! No wonder the place is empty, it's her rude and Natzi rules!! We moved the truck and continued to be spied on from golf cart and even standing in the mens room door watching us!! My son-inlaw wouldn't even visit again during our stay because of the rudeness!! Owners are rude, accussive and should not be running a campground!! Don't pay to have owners be rude!! WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN!! read more
