I did my first Car Boot Sale last Saturday and found it was a great way to earn some much needed cash in these challenging times. We had a major clear out from the house and managed to sell loads of unwanted (and some much loved) items which have now found new homes. Surprisingly easy to accomplish. Went on line registered and arrived on site, paid €20 on the gate popped up a couple of paste tables and before we had the car emptied had sold 12 items. The only pain was some over zealous buyers sticking their noses into the boot before we had a chance to get organised.
That said it was a great opportunity to convert goods into cash, while at the same time teaching the kids the value of money (they sold their own items) and with any luck they will think a little longer about spending the proceeds then they do their mums weekly contribution to their fund raising antics (Pocket Money)
I was advised before venturing out by my brother in law who introduced me to the car boot craze to be aware of thieves and other undesirables and their tendency to consider the event as a large scale giveaway organised for their convenience. I did not personally experience such activity but spoke to fellow booters that have been robbed at car boot fairs, the guys managing this venue appeared to have a good handle on the issue and on several occasions were asking (I assume known offenders) to ply their trade elsewhere. All in all a positive experience and one I intend to repeat. read more
