I enrolled in the Cyber Security Management program for Fall 2016 semester. The instructor was…read moreincapable, very poor, and DEFINITELY NOT a qualified teacher. The material used was also grade 6 quality. I was completely shocked! This UofT experience is a complete joke. They only want your money. After finishing the semester I withdrew from the remaining 2 semesters and unable to complete my diploma, which I was so looking forward to. I wrote a complaint to UofT. They thanked me for raising this issue but said he was a qualified teacher (Wow, seriously!!!). This is not right. Having knowledge doesn't mean you can teach it - even if you are UofT. Contrary to their slogan "Reputation Matters", you can't simply rest your laurels on a name. UofT does not scrutinize these instructors or their teaching ability. If you are going to provide education in any field, I expect any respectable educational institution would validate their product (course, material, instructor, and quality of training). When people complain, I expect you will act accordingly. Sadly, if you do not, you will only foster inadequate education into the minds of those so eager to learn, for them only to be let down when they realize they don't have the basic understanding of their diploma. Maybe they have better instructors, I don't know. But this guy sure slipped through the cracks.

The classrooms are outfitted with some Macs, have remained in pretty good condition, with the exception of some of the more high traffic seats - choose yours wisely. The rooms are high tech, so all classes are taught using power points on double projectors... LIKE A BOSS. Sorry, I felt compelled to write that for some reason. Up until now my education has always consisted of analogue classroom settings in a decaying old building with gum stuck underneath all the fixed-chair half desks. By comparison this building is really excellent. Plus, there's this nice colour changing glow-wall outside one of the 5th floor classrooms that lights up this otherwise boring stretch of King St. E.

They have a variety of food and they post their weekly menu on instagram (@georgebrowncafe). I got their daily special which was around $12 and it was a delicious porchetta roast with a refreshing summer salad! You get to keep all the food you make in the culinary arts classes so i usually attend classes on the weekend. The classes also double as my meal prep session for the upcoming work week. I suggest attending a sunday morning class (if possible) to all part time students because street parking is free on sunday mornings. The quality of the ingredients are superb. I remember learning how to fillet fish and the seafood came from Diana's seafood. The butter we used is from sterling creamery. The salmon we used to barbecue was sashimi grade so our instructor made us ceviche with the leftover salmon! You can definitely taste the quality of the ingredients that are provided in your classes. The instructors i've had are patient, laid back and funny. I think my three favorite elective courses would be BBQ, Indian cooking, and Thai cooking. The introduction to culinary arts course (compulsory course) gave me the confidence to attempt more difficult recipes and different types of cuisines at home. The course covers the fundamentals of cooking and is well worth the investment (even if you are not interested in the culinary program). I cannot wait till social distancing rules are lifted and GB offers culinary classes again. For now, i will read the course outlines and drool while deciding what to take next.
