Bobby Umar, the instructor for Veritas in Toronto, ON was the best instructor I have ever had. The reason can be captured by the three F's. He was fun, funny, and fantastic. When I took the course he would have these funny greetings at the beginning of each class to capture your attention and get you fired up for class. He was very enthusiastic about the subjects that he taught, and you can tell that he was very knowledgeable about the subjects, thus making him a fantastic teacher. He always answered your question, and he would confirm that he answered your question before moving on. He would explain things as many times as you need until you understand the concept or how he arrived at the answer through a logical process. He believes there are no stupid questions. He would have multiple ways or methods to demonstrate how to solve a question which makes it easy for the students to understand. The overall experience was fun, because Bobby is very personable, more like your friend than your instructor and he tries to make the course tailored to the students by consistently asking for feedback from the students. He would also help the students create a study plan to help them succeed. One bonus thing that he does which is really beneficial to the future MBA students is that every class he would take 5-10 minutes to talk a bit about his MBA experience ie application process, his co-op experience, networking, leadership, and more. At the end you can tell he puts 110% effort into each class to help nurture and prepare students to successfully challenge the GMAT. I do not believe any other instructor would give you free additional valuable information related to MBA life for candidates. If you are taking the course in Toronto, I suggest asking for Bobby Umar as the instructor, if you want to learn and succeed. To be objective every course must have something that the student doesn't like. Veritas has the longest course out there, and I thought it would be great if they extended the course and made it even longer. The course acted as my motivation to study and to meet people to form study group, which was what Bobby encouraged, and he would offer additional help in person at these study group meetings outside of class. The other thing was that I am not a very out spoken person, and am uncomfortable in giving answers out in class, but Bobby really engages the students and has a genuine desire to help the students, thus he ask students randomly to give their answers out in class. It was uncomfortable at first, but at the end you learn a lot more through active participation, and you get to hear what other students are thinking of and how they solve the problems, thus more knowledge/tools to add to your databank. Overall, my evaluation of Veritas, and the instructor Bobby Umar was outstanding. They have many resources from online self help to actually speaking to a person on the phone to get instant help on math problems or verbal problems or generally anything, as well as several simulated practice exams. The course covers everything, from basic to advance, even essay writing skills. Classes were at a convenient location downtown, close to transit system. When I had class, we had a boardroom with water/coffee, and a great view on the 27th floor. If I were to give a grade, I would say the experience was 10/10. I have not taken the GMAT yet, cause I want to improve my time and maximize my score, but I feel I have all the tools to achieve my goal. I am still studying with the other students in the class. If you work hard you can get 600+, because my score jumped 70 points from the initial practice test after 2 weeks, and I went into the course without any math knowledge or grammar. I feel I should share my experience with other GMAT warriors so they have more options. I know some instructors are terrible and you learn nothing, especially the instructors who don't speak english very well. I recently completed the Veritas Prep GMAT course in Toronto, Ontario, which began May 9 2011. I was looking for a highly recommended program, something high calibre, with a great reputation and great course material to back it up. I had read many reviews, and decided on Veritas. One of the things that drew me to Veritas was the course materials. Dedicated course books for every type of question. If you're having trouble with just one type of problem, that book is all you need. Very well organized. The in class work was great as well. We had a very dynamic class, and our instructor was amazing. Bobby Umar is one of the finest instructors I have had to date. Very enthusiastic, always smiling and always willing to help. I'd started learning different methodologies before I started the Veritas program, but once I began the coursework, I stopped with the other tactics, and stuck to the Veritas ones. They are easy to remember, easy to follow, and really do work. Of course, you need to put in the work yourself to make them effective. I did not make use of the phone support, however if it is anything like the sales staff and personal consultants, it has to be great as well. I've spoke to one of the consultants before I enrolled, to gauge how the course would be laid out. She was very informative and really personable. I've also kept in touch with my main sales rep, who has always kept me informed of new deals or discounts on future programs. The online resources are great. You have full access to their onDemand content, which are recorded class lessons. So you can repeat any course at any time. Veritas GMAT prep course is comprehensive and the strategies introduced are critical. The course comprises of 12 3-hour classes and these are filled with valuable content. Spread out over 6 weeks, I found this course to be efficiently laid out in a way that was neither slow nor overwhelming. I had ample time to prepare for the classes and the 3 hour classes were long enough to extract great feedback. The book-set for this course is one of the best resources you can find anywhere. Apart from the concise lessons, these books are loaded with great questions that test you as you progress. The online resources provided were also very helpful. I kept track of my progress and got to review the questions from the books. All in all, my experience with this course has been extremely positive. My instructor, Bobby Umar, was simply amazing. He certainly had an expert command on the material and gave phenomenal feedback. He is a great speaker and a terrific teacher. He also has an uncanny ability to recalibrate a student's expectations and fears about the GMAT, making a higher GMAT score seem completely attainable. I found this approach to be extremely effective and motivating, and this was reflected in my improvement. It's scary and jarring tackling the GMAT prep on your own and it was a relief to have had Bobby as a teacher. So, if you are serious about scoring really high on the GMAT, you should definitely opt for Bobby Umar's class. He is the man!! About a year ago, I went to a Veritas Prep trial class, mainly to see if the course was something that I would benefit from in the future and to check out the instructor. I was impressed with both aspects, especially Bobby Umar, the GMAT guru. When it came down to actually start studying for my GMAT, I knew right away to book an 8 week Veritas Prep course. After having made sure that Bobby would be my instructor, I started on my GMAT journey. Having completed the course now, I can say that I would definitely recommend it to others. Having 15 comprehensive Veritas books broken down by section was fantastic. Each book had a lot of practice questions and detailed explanations of concepts. In addition, the instruction was stellar! As far as GMAT Prep goes, Veritas makes sure you have all the tools handy to raise your game. Online resources are plentiful, course materials are thorough and the instructors are excellent. Well, regarding instructors I can only speak from experience. Having Bobby Umar as a teacher went far beyond my expectations. Veritas is an amazing GMAT prep course. IT is very detailed, comprehensive and helpful. They cover all areas of the GMAT and use tried and true methods that will help you succeed. I initially approached the course with scepticism. I was doing fairly well with GMAT prep to start with and was unsure of what benefit the Veritas prep course could offer. That said the course was very helpful in keeping me on track, especially while working full-time. The Veritas prep books offered great instruction and had significant depth to challenge me to strive for a 700+ score. The Veritas prep staff were very helpful, and the online resources portal they offer as part of the course gave access to many prep materials and practice tests. The instructor Bobby Umar was also an excellent and engaging teacher. He helped me navigate common test pitfalls and went above and beyond to mentor me throughout the GMAT process. Veritas Prep is pricipally a one-man band (ok, two, if you count Chad's sidekick) that runs its show form Malibu. They hire instructors who come and go through a turnstile by constantly advertising on Craig's list, and hire the tutors without any training or interviews. It is up to the suckers who paid big bucks to take the course to evaluate the tutor. If you got stuck with a worthless tutor, which you will often, you are out of luck. The Full Prep Course is the best choice for anyone like me who has never picked up a GMAT prep book before. The text books included in this course break down all the essentials into easy to digest bits. Bobby Umar does an excellent job of further explaining all the tricks one should know to ace the exam. GMAT is not an easy exam to beat, but following Bobby's regimen definitely makes it an achievable task. He made the class a very enjoyable experience and encouraged group work outside of class too. I took the Veritas GMAT Prep course in January 2013. The instructor, Bobby, was great. He was really motivational which was key since the material is a bit dry (ie: high school math)! But he actually made it fun and he managed to keep energy level up in class and explained the material thoroughly. His anecdotes of MBA life were value-added and put the GMAT into perspective.
