This extraordinary business which was founded in 1947 continues to give excellent, friendly service including cleaning beaded pieces and other vintage items that I have treasured for decades. I took a dress to her and some fabric and she was able to replicate the garment with my new fabric. Though I sew, I was terrified of the project. I have never felt more uncomfortable bringing something in for an alteration. From start to finish…read morethe tailor made me feel bad for bringing in my top because it was too difficult. She complained during my try on and when I picked up my outfit to the point where I could not even bring myself to say thank you. She said she would never do it again in her life because it was too difficult and she should have charged me $100 more than what she charged me to begin with. I paid $135 for the alteration. I would not recommend going here unless you have something that just needs a simple hem.

It's a lovely family-run business, and you can tell they've been doing this a long time. Everyone is super kind, professional, and incredibly skilled. I've brought in all kinds of things over the years -- scrubs, dresses, shirts, pants -- and they always do a great job. They're very knowledgeable about different fabrics (whether it's thick, stretchy, delicate, etc.), so pricing can vary depending on what you bring in. But they're always upfront and explain everything clearly, which I really appreciate. Turnaround time is fast and they're very punctual, but if you're in a real rush, they do offer a fair upcharge for expedited service. Still, I'd definitely recommend giving them at least a week or two, especially if you've got a dance or special event coming up. They'll let you know right away what's realistic and always follow through. Just a heads up -- it's cash or check only, but totally worth the extra step. Couldn't recommend them more!

I shipped two pairs of my old boat shoes to Fred's in IL and they were mailed back to me in VA about four weeks later looking brand new. The Sperry Resole Package was $90, and the cost of a new pair of the Gold Cup model on the Sperry website, as of August 2026, is close to $200, so I think $90 per pair is a really good value. I highly recommend Fred's for your shoe repair needs.

OK, but not thrilled since it looks bad. I do't wear these boots too often since I have several pairs. i just noticed they also scraped the leather with the stitcher on the same boot. The leather is actually a little thinner now in this spot. The scrape runs parallel to the welt in an area where normal wear would not cause the scrape. In addition, the scrape shows up in a picture I took immediately after the resole. It appears they covered up the scrape with brown polish or another shoe product. They did not mention any of the issues when the boots were picked up by a family member that lives near Peoria. Do not recommend, and I will not use them again.
